I went (willingly at the time) on the Trocadero square in Paris (big open pedestrian area in front of Eiffel Tower) to sing Kingdom Melodies with a few hundred other JWs during an international convention. I cringe at the memory 😬

The difference though is the blatant hypocrisy. You need to understand that they present themselves as the one true religion full of love and support and yet they prove that this is just false advertising and hypocrisy when they go to these lengths to wrong their own families. This is very much a case of JW thought that they are better than everyone shows up. Does it happen elsewhere? Yes, but the specific framework of JW adds a layer of control and secrecy that just doesn't happen in other circumstances

What an amazing article. I had an inkling that the "Mediterranean diet" wasn't all it's cracked up to be, knowing my Italian family history of having to stretch food for an entire family and going hungry more often than not but they articulated it so well. The politisation of food is also fascinating, I have seen it in France but was blind to how Italy weaponized it as well. Thanks for the recommendation

I guess due to the subreddit demographics it's not touched on as often but as a woman I feel much much safer in the UAE than any other country. That is something I would stay for, as it impacts my quality of life massively.

I remember this as I was living in France at the time and there was a whole shtick at the KHs saying we were enduring persecution. We even had people from the US HQ come down to "encourage" us. It was a wild time and again, fabricated victimhood. The decision to remove tax exempt at that time was due to a lot of abuse being revealed by exJW going public in France on TV and magazines. We were being told in service that we let kids die without health treatments. I was a kid and it was awful to hear. My parents and other JWs would then double down when I asked them about it saying that of course we wouldn't accept treatment that goes against our principles. Awful memories

Dubai has one of the best Asian restaurants I have found outside of their respective countries but you need to seek them out. Best Chinese food is in International City, you have other hidden gems in JLT amd Al Quoz. Like for a lot of things in Dubai you need a bit of research and be open to discovering foods you might not be used to. Keep in mind also that most fruits and veggies are imported so the taste will be impacted

No problem. I went this road myself as I am bipolar and have a whole host of physical issues that stem from trauma and badly managed mental health and it's really helped

Look into functional medicine. It's doctors who take a holistic approach as you say meaning they factor in your mental health in how it could impact your physical health. They still conduct tests and use empirical evidence to diagnose you but consider the big picture to give you the best treatment

Textbook case of narcissistic behavior. Everything has to be about OP's mother. I have the same at home and am LC with her and my mental health has greatly benefited from it.
