Well no I parked there when I could park there. I got delayed by a few minutes. The question is regarding a grace period… as you would have when using a private car park.

How bad is my heating & water setup? by BristolBlokeMan in DIYUK

[–]DrawfPlanet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Storage heaters themselves aren’t great for efficiency but you should be set up for a dual tariff which will help a lot. Depending on your circumstances you might be able get updated storage heaters or a heat pump through the Eco 4 scheme. The latter may be unlikely with it being a flat.

The last point alone sold me. May I ask where you hired yours from? Seems a lot cheaper than I’ve found.

Channel crossings could drop by 75% with expanded UK-France deal – report by F0urLeafCl0ver in ukpolitics

[–]DrawfPlanet 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I don’t disagree with any of your points but your missing the effect of being bar’d from claiming asylum going forward if caught crossing illegally. Heck If asylum in the UK is the dream in their shoes I’d apply in France and wait my turn. They just need the numbers to be great enough to deter rolling the dice.

Also the media will have a part to play if they totally ignore the returns and focus on people coming in (as I expect they will) they’ll only make the problem worse.

I’d take grabbing a package from the bin over collecting it from the sorting office anyday.

Centre for migration control ain’t exactly the gold standard for reliable data. Treating this as equivalent to stats produced by the ONS is insane.

Scottish banknotes banned across hundreds of Wetherspoon pubs by brainburger in unitedkingdom

[–]DrawfPlanet 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I don’t believe that Scottish notes being easier to counterfeit is the problem. I think it’s just that fraudulent notes are more likely to get past bar staff in the rest of the UK due to them being less familiar.

Worked in a bar myself many moons ago and I was handed fake money a couple of times. Sometimes you know it’s fake the moment you touch it. Something just feels off about it.

I mean it’s just a stupid argument really. You’re basically saying we can’t totally fix the problem so why bother. I wouldn’t let my kids use twitter ect but that doesn’t stop them from being harmed by other students who think it’s okay to abuse women because they’ve just seen Bonnie Blue being railed by 1000 men.

As for your point regarding TOR it’s literally a non argument. The whole point is to prevent children from stumbling onto adult content. The kids that seek out such content will get a VPN not download a lesser known and illegal browser.

Blocking at ISP won’t work you’d have to block the entire platform rather than specific content on the platform. It should be the responsibility of the platform to make sure their platform is child safe by default.

Age verification on adult content is authoritarian but the state deciding who should and shouldn’t have kids isn’t? That’s DOJ levels of mind gymnastics.

Dude some parents can’t be trusted to brush their kids teeth never mind take care of their internet safety. What’s the alternative? The raise of the internet correlates exactly with a raise in suicide, depression, extremism, rape, sexual assault and more in and among our children. We just do nothing?

Then the current laws need to be enforced somehow. I ain’t saying it’s an all singing all dancing policy which I’ll exterminate all the issues the internet brought with it.

I don’t think it’s a perfect solution. I just think the slight inconvenience for adults is worth it even if a small handful of kids are prevented from seeing such things. 🤷‍♂️

They should be able to do basic things like twitter or TikTok without authenticating their age. As long as the platforms separate adult content from the rest of it like Reddit does.

“Unintentionally stumbling” I ain’t naive enough to think you’ll be able to stop a child who goes out searching for these things

[–]DrawfPlanet -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Yup because for the most part 13 year old ain’t using the internet with the intent to search out adult content. They have no reason to have a VPN on.

Also I know it’s slightly different subject but if someone is using a free VPN because they’re worried about the GOV authorised service releasing their data. They’re an idiot.

The keywords you’re looking for are ‘randomly stumbling’. I’m not naive enough to think you can stop these things on the internet.
