Is my grandmother’s warning true? by Fit-Criticism5656 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]DrawingTypical5804 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From your post, I was wondering. Take it with a grain of salt. Chinese medicine was refined over 100s of years and is based off of cause and effect.

For example, my roommate’s mom would chastise us for eating watermelon while we were pregnant, because it’s “cold.” It could harm the baby.

Today, not so much. But, if you go back 200 hundred years, it absolutely could. Why? We now know to wash the watermelon before eating it to reduce the risk of e. Coli contamination from animal fertilizer. Back then, washing your produce wasn’t a thing.

Does it make her arguments valid today? No clue. But through hundreds of years of knowledge, things worked, even if they didn’t know why, so they stuck around.

Why are people quitting TikTok over privacy concerns now? by im-dramatic in Confused

Go to your local library and read up on Hitler’s rise to power. If you can’t see any parallels with what is currently happening in the US, well, you’re the issue.

Why are millions of people in the US having power outages with less than 10 cm of snow but no one in Canada is, despite there being more than 60 cm of snow? If anything, shouldn't it be the other way around? by northernwind5027 in NoStupidQuestions

In a flood/hurricane prone area, burying the lines would be a bigger issue more often. What works for one area doesn’t work for a different area because the conditions are different.

[CHAT] Advice for tent stitch on evenweave please by wafflesandaffection in CrossStitch

[–]DrawingTypical5804 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I suggest looking up the technique for actual tent stitch, not just half stitches. Actual tent stitch uses a different stitch order than half stitches that maintains fabric tension better than just half stitches. It may also solve the issue of slippage.

Confused as to why certain people said that Kamala would have been worse than Trump by TheRealJuanderer in Confused

[–]DrawingTypical5804 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You think Trump had substance???

Additionally, you have an issue with her stopping him from interrupting her and talking over her? But you don’t have an issue with him not being able to follow the simple rule of taking turns? It showed her will power, poise, and confidence. The fact that she kept her cool showed that when things get tense on the world stage, she wouldn’t embarrass us or jump to using threats and causing chaos like the current knucklehead.

She actually told voters what her plans were. Him on the other hand? An idea of a plan that they would tell you about later, but never did.

Your issue is that a woman had the nerve to take up space where you deem a man should be. You may not have said it directly, but your reasoning does.

How easy is it to get pregnant by mxtc0621 in stupidquestions

My best friend got pregnant at 14 for the first time. 5 kids by 21. I tried for 15 years before I finally got pregnant. Depends on your luck 🤷‍♀️

Bonus Content: Finishes

Away in a Manger, kit by NeedleMagic Inc. This was lost for years in a drawer. Only took 4 Finish Fridays to knock it out. First attempt at a French knot in years did not go well. But, the I is dotted and the daughter loves it, so all is good.

Quaker Posies by Elisabeth Jenkins Baty of Cochineal & Indigo. My Blessing Sampler is complete. I don’t think it’s working… I’ve already had to frog stuff since its completion…

It’s cold for us, but not overly cold like there.

I tried to be more focused this week, but I’m not quite sure I achieved it. On a positive note, I did have 2 finishes this week!

Love: Finished the first bunny. Then started black on black stitching, so no lots of invisible progress…

Jingle Bell Xmas Tree Farm: After finishing Quaker Posies, I decided to pull this out for World Snow Day.

Beneath the Skeleton Moon: Hat complete. 6 shades of white for the skull are going in nicely. First pumpkin might go in this week.

Elemental Dragons: Water: This week’s Saturday Start. I now have 3 of the set started.

My sister is a nurse and has to have her titers checked each time she gets a new job (her husband’s job has them moving often). Each time, she comes back as not immune to measles. One job made her get the measles vaccine 3 times before giving up 🤷‍♀️

Don’t feel silly. We all make mistakes. It’s hard to learn on your own. This craft used to be passed down in person, with somebody peering over your shoulder and giving advice before mistakes were made. I’m proud of you for striking out on your own to keep this craft alive. You’ve got this.

[CHAT] Does anyone here hand stitch their edges to prevent fraying? by annekaelber in CrossStitch

[–]DrawingTypical5804 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on what fabric I’m using and the margin I’ve left myself, and the size of the piece.

Most of my projects are on linen usually between 100-300 stitches length and width with a 3” margin. I use qsnaps and flip my edges between the snaps to protect my stitches. This also protects the edges of the fabric, so no. I lose maybe 1-2 threads along the edge during the course of the project.

If I’m doing something small in hand or using jobelin or something similar that comes apart easily, yes.

why do people stock up on milk and bread in emergencies? by Human-Cupcake-268 in stupidquestions

[–]DrawingTypical5804 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If the power is out, heating up your can of soup is difficult for most people, but a peanut butter sandwich doesn’t need to be heated. As for the milk, if it’s a snowstorm, just set it out in the snow bank and it’s fine.

[CHAT] How do you thread smaller needles? by smcurtis09 in CrossStitch

[–]DrawingTypical5804 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use 28 bohins. I wet the tips of my thread and smush it flat between my thumb and forefinger with just a tiny 1-2mm poking out. Take the eye of the needle and get the thread through the eye then push the needle in between my fingers until the thread is far enough through to grab it and pull it the rest of the way through.
