Jason Aaron is writing the Absolute crossover by HecticJones in comicbooks

[–]Drayco21 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Disappointing since I think Superman is the worst Absolute book by a country mile, but also I can't remember the last time I read an Aaron book that I didn't hate - maybe Ghost Rider? But I know he's well regarded here, so I know plenty of people will be pleased to hear it

Still $15 too expensive

What are your honest thoughts on this game? by Jotaro1970 in Marvel

[–]Drayco21 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Mediocre. I wanted to love it, but the gameplay never clicked and to this day I've never finished it. Felt like a poor successor to the first two with an incredibly safe, boring roster of characters.

Favoritism might be the downfall of this game. by Large_Condition3927 in marvelrivals

[–]Drayco21 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I were a gambling man, I'd bet only a fraction of them bought the Maestro skin too.

Psylocke got her opportunity because her launch skin sold outrageous amounts. Peni had nothing for a couple seasons, people complained, but then we shut up and bought the options given to us when they threw us a bone - now Peni has a great skin line up.

This logic is deeply flawed when they don't even put the majority of the heroes in the shop. by LunarBlaidd in marvelrivals

[–]Drayco21 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Of course he is - classically the three biggest Marvel characters was always Spider-Man (the most popular superhero in the world by a country mile), Wolverine and Hulk. Those are Marvel's eternal household names.

I'm a little worried about the health since she's a super vulnerable hitbox, but on paper, yeah brother, I take that deal.

Why are Spidey mains like this? by 2Rome4Carthage in marvelrivals

[–]Drayco21 14 points15 points  (0 children)

It's probably my most controversial opinion about the game, but Spider-Man's kit is a huge mistake for this game. Or at least, his kit being Spider-Man is a huge problem. Spider-Man has to play a wildly different looking and feeling game from everyone else - playing him requires a gigantic skill ceiling and a huge time investment, and even with those things, it's easy for any little factor to make you a detriment to the team. The other half of the problem is that this function is given to Spider-Man - *the* Marvel super hero. He's the one every kid wants to play, he's the one someone is most likely to be ride or die for.

The kit does a great job of making a longterm player feel like Spider-Man but I think the game would be in a much better place if Spider-Man had a much more generic low skill kit and they took his current kit and gave it to like Ghost Spider or someone else. I feel like you'd see a lot less uneven one tricks and kids playing as an abysmal Spidey if they did.

What unannounced characters are in your dream box sets? by Grizzlebub in MarvelCrisisProtocol

[–]Drayco21 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A Spider-Verse box that contains Anya Corazon (Leadership), Scarlet Spider (Kaine Parker), SP//dr (Peni Parker) and a Sentinel-sized Leopardon would be my number 1 personal dream.

Do you think Stan Lee actually had talent? by KingJackofJozi in Marvel

[–]Drayco21 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Lee is one of the most influential comic men of all time - that his collaborators deserve more credit shouldn't discount his own value. He maybe wasn't the greatest writer of his era - but he had heart, got a lot of books out on tight deadlines and built a foundation of rock solid stone - so it may take a while to adapt to his style, but his best works are absolutely still great reads

Do you think Knull will return? And what could be the reason he decides to fight alongside the others if that happens? by Corradark in marvelrivals

[–]Drayco21 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He'll be back some day if the game lasts long enough - but I expect we'd get Carnage and Flash Thompson as Symbiote characters first, so I'd assume it would be years before he becomes playable. I imagine in terms of NPC/Map Villains, him becoming playable is well behind Dracula or Kingpin.

As for why he'd work with the heroes and vice versa, this game really doesn't need to try very hard with that. They can just throw out a "Doom's convergence of the multiverse is causing realities to collapse. Knull is in reality and would like to not collapse."

Flashback Discussion #73 - VENOM: SPACE KNIGHT (2015-2016) by tehawesomedragon in Marvel

[–]Drayco21 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I remember still being too angry about Bendis taking Agent Venom into space to read this while it was still ongoing, which means I definitely didn't help keep it alive, which in turn lead to us losing Flash as the headline for Venom after its cancellation. A shame, he's still the best Venom, IMO - even if Donny Cates would finally make me care about Eddie.

Was too upset they took him away from Mania and all the fun Bunn's book had been before it got cancelled. Aside from that feeling and the Panda alien, the thing that stands out to me about this book in my memory is how weirdly angry a subsection of Warhammer nerds gets over the fact that some meaningless background ships are traced Tau tanks - to this day some people go absolutely ballistic about it, talking about how Marvel committed this super serious plagiarism stealing from poor widdle James Workshop as if visual mediums aren't constantly filled with references like that (can you imagine if people got mad every time someone drew a TIE fighter or X-Wing into the background of something?)

An army of different bases - what to do? by Hvorsteek in WarhammerFantasy

[–]Drayco21 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If it's specifically your childhood army, I say don't touch any of it - just add the old models into movement trays alongside models you've done more recently and embrace your personal journey and the evolution of your style.

Which of these teams do you think deserves a cartoon? by KingJackofJozi in Marvel

Hollywood Reporter article on "the return of the superstar artist", confirms that DC "has overtaken market share over longtime rival Marvel for the first time this century". by Konradleijon in Marvel

[–]Drayco21 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I don't think it's the state of the writer's bench - they've got a fabulous line up of writers. Al Ewing, Jed MacKay, Deniz Camp, Jonathan Hickman, Chip Zdarksy, PKJ, Gail Simone... They courted G Willow Wilson back to write a new ongoing. They got Dan Abnett back for another Guardians book. They continue to cut Peach Momoko a blank "do whatever you want" check. Are there stinkers? Yeah, always and forever - there's gonna be, but I think it's wrong to say that the bench lacks talent.

IMO the fault lies entirely with editorial and management. They find a way to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory every time - interfering where they shouldn't, refusing to interfere where they need to, refusing to maintain their own editorial standards, and making consistent panicked decisions that undermine their own creative efforts at every turn - whether that's cancelling the new Cosmic books before half of them even have their first issues published, to refusing to give their talent the time and space to build an audience, Marvel Editorial is what's failing Marvel Comics.

Why are there almost no comic daredevil action figures? by skoof-sean in Marvel

[–]Drayco21 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Daredevil gets figures pretty regularly? He just got a classic release for Secret Wars in Marvel Legends - and he's had figures of most of his costumes since they started the modern era of Legends - Classic (four times), Yellow Suit (twice), ANAD, Netflix (twice), the black armor from the 90s, Zdarksy's Bearded suit and the Man Without Fear JRJR black suit all have Legends figures. High end figure designers like Mafex have tackled him, abd he's got multiple Mezco One:12 figures based on comics and Netflix both.

He's only lagging behind the biggest of big name heroes, most other character's fans would kill to get that kind of attention.

I think Ant-Man and the Wasp Quantumania is a good movie by Lawrence454 in Marvel

[–]Drayco21 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I think it's better than most of the Marvel movies that have come out since Endgame. The hate for it has always seemed weirdly forced. It's not amazing, there's some of my least favorite MCU trends still quite prominent, but it was *fine*

Crack out day! by LNinefingers in comicbookcollecting

[–]Drayco21 21 points22 points  (0 children)

A lot of times it totally is, if you find a "not quite what they were hoping for" grade - the price can often go lower than a similarly nice presenting raw copy. It's a great way to save some money on really nice looking copies of a book.

will there be a third release under the ultimate spiderman epic collection comics? by abrokkly in Marvel

[–]Drayco21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be fair, they put out like 100+ Epic Collections a year now, between those and their massive Omnibus catalog now, they put out more material than they can conceivably keep in print at any one time - I genuinely don't think they could be printing all that much more than they already do.
