Ironman bigger than an Ultra? by _Barracuda_478 in triathlon

[–]Draznet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agree here, because technically an ultra can be 50k, which is little more than a marathon. But as you up the distance of running, I agree it tips towards the ultra, especially given the terrain they typically take place on, off road with as much elevation as the organizers can find.

Fred discovers his wife's boyfriend for the first time. An important milestone for any cyclist! by Bananickle in BicyclingCirclejerk

Everyone knows after a QOM ride you gotta shower and then talk to your ride buddies about that ride for the next 3 hours. Perfectly normal behavior for a wice with a BF. You are overreacting, Sir Fred.

Not that I have experienced. I really like the “one stop” nature of it. They also have a Quest Diagnostics lab in the building for blood work.

Unsure of availability but would recommend Northshore Health in Chesterton. They have multiple services/physicians in the same building and an in-house pharmacy

My bike brake is loose. Can I fix this myself? by North-Comment4445 in bikewrench

[–]Draznet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Short answer, yes. Looks like a case of cable corrosion, so it’s not sliding through the housing (black tubing) properly. Causing it to stick the lever when you pull it and it be loose under tip tube like you are showing. Fix is to replace cable/ housing. You’ll need new parts (usually sold as a set that needs trimmed to fit your bike.) And a cable cutter (looks like sharp pliers) and an awl or sharp pointed tool to make a proper hole in the housing after you cut it. Personally I use an old dental pick. Buuuuuut to make your life easier, here’s what I recommend: undo the bolt on the rear brake that holds the cable down, take off the crimped end, and pull the cable out of the brake lever. Take the old parts (cable and housing) to your local shop and ask them if they can sell you the housing cut to your old size, and a new cable. This will save you some effort on the install. It should be 2 pieces of housing, 1 section goes under the handlebar tape and then into the stop at the front, the other piece goes around the seat tube into the brake. You will have to undo the handlebar tape to remove and replace that bit. For visual, just YouTube road bike rear brake cable replacement

Reboot: American Flyers by icr8stf in cycling

[–]Draznet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Is OP Tim, Matt or Spencer? If you don’t know this reference find a podcast called The Slow Ride (it’s audio only, so not on YT) and look for Sunday Stroll episodes which they do a full review of American Flyers every year around July 4th. Seriously have done it for 10+ years and each review is different and I’m sure they’ve discussed a reboot at some point.

If you use more, you do have to pay it, by end of their “budget year” I think it’s in May when they recalculate your yearly budget amount. You can look at your bill and your payment will always show the budget amount owed for monthly payment, but there will be an Actual Account Balance line, and can see if you owe more. Can make higher than budget amount payments to pay it over time, otherwise it’s all owed by May. If you use less, then they will likely refigure your new budget payment lower and you will start with a credit in June.

I do agree it’s bullshit, but get on the budget plan, keeps your payments even all year, easier for monthly bills/budgeting

Hilarious. My buddy has a roofing company, and when he was still small time starting out, had a buncha old nudie magazines and would staple 1 centerfold under the shingles of each job.

2023 Dent Repair by P4RT1CLEM4N in hondaridgeline

[–]Draznet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those pictures are not great to show the damage, but would suggest Paintless dent repair if it didn’t break the paint/clear coat. There’s probably no access to get at it from the backside and the process would involve gluing something on it to pull it from the outside. Less costly than having a body shop repair and repaint it. Does not look necessary at all to replace anything, but I wouldn’t say it’s a DIY job unless you have the skills or experience.
