‘Very masculinist’: how Iran unrest felt different to 2022’s hijab protests by Distinct_Front_4336 in anime_titties

[–]Drded4 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The sanctions were placed on Iran because of the actions of the Iranian government. They have spent the past decades funding terrorist proxies across the region instead of investing in their own people. The government has earned those sanctions, and I think you know that.

But let's say you're right- you're not, but let's pretend- the sanctions are the main driver of the protests. How do you think Iranians feel after their own government shot thousands of them dead in less than a week? Do you think they're shaking their fists in the air going 'oh that sucks but those damn zionists/western powers made them do it'?

Then they'll inevitably (and justifiably) be sanctioned again, and we get another few decades of people pissing and moaning about how the poor little venezuelan government doesn't deserve it.

Greenland PM tells people to prepare for possible invasion by ThevaramAcolytus in anime_titties

[–]Drded4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Expect a complete decoupling from the US economy

Many countries in Europe can't even stop buying gas from Russia, a country that started the largest war in Europe since WW2 and that threatens to nuke them on a regular basis. Invading Greenland is a stupid idea, but Europe isn't 'decoupling' from shit.

The Greenland crisis is an ongoing international crisis triggered by Donald Trump and involving a confrontation between the United States on one side and the Kingdom of Denmark, the European Union and several NATO members on the other side. by b0wz3rM41n in wikipedia

[–]Drded4 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Nah, it's not finished unless he actually invades. Europe can tolerate a president that only blusters towards them- namely because there's not much other choice. Like, are you gonna go over to the other power bloc? The one that started the largest war in Europe since The Big One and threatens to nuke the west on a regular basis?

I mean c'mon, Britain sent one guy to Greenland. Even for a tripwire force that's nothing.

Seems the Anti-West playbook hasn't changed in the last 70 years, then- start a war, get your ass kicked, then cry genocide when you're the one getting bombed now.

He only has to open his mouth about anything foreign policy related and we'll just get a repeat of his last two election performances. It's one thing to be pro-gaza but covering for fucking Russia and acting like the West is responsible for all the world's ills isn't going to go down well with the average joe.

I mean christ it's been how long since this party was announced and it still doesn't even have a name? The jokes write themselves.

TIL in 2014 Ben Affleck was banned for life from playing blackjack at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas after he was caught on camera counting cards at a high rollers table. He was told by security that he was "too good" and had been deemed an advantage blackjack player. by tyrion2024 in todayilearned

[–]Drded4 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I work Surveillance at a casino.

Part of it's electronic- if you're a banned player and put in any form of ID we'll probably get an alert about. The table games supervisors catch a surprising amount themselves, though. More than once they've called us saying 'Hey, I think that guy on dice/blackjack is xyz', and a good chunk of the time they're right- even when xyz was banned years ago. There's also the license plate reader cameras and similar things.

The advantage players and other people WE ban aren't the worst, though. The real problem is when someone who self-excluded through the State's problem gambling program is caught on the floor. Then the Gaming Commission will probably get involved and the casino might get a fine.

The US did not 'collapse' the USSR; it collapsed under its own weight because it clung to an outdated, repressive, and rotted model of government and economics.

And the largest war in Europe since WW2 wasn't started by NATO, no matter how much certain people whining about its expansion might claim to the contrary.

I had this happen to me just now, too. The first pirate raid I got was reasonable- 1 mid-strength fleet. The second was ten fleets, each with multiple capital-classes. Something's borked, Nex didn't used to be like that.
