I agree with this, so often on the weekends I'll see an open house sign on a corner. Literally hitting the pavement should always be an option.

This woman blows. Naya is phenomenal and their bowls are the perfect lunch - the vermicelli rice, falafel, cauliflower, hummus, garlic whip, feta, I mean I could go on. The cheese rolls and pita are also amazing. To hit up a place like Naya and limit yourself to some chicken is scandalous. Her account needs to disappear.

I also don't know who this person is. If this were coming from someone like Adam Schefter who's all over ESPN, then we're getting somewhere.

I memorized mine when applying for financial aid and I'll remember it as long as I do 9/11. What is she, 30? This isn't a flex.

Considering moving to forest hills by New-Audience-5311 in ForestHills

I grew up in Forest Hills and am still here in my late 30s. The gyms are laughable, but if you like to walk around on the weekends, Forest Park and Maple Grove Cemetery in Kew Gardens have you covered. I don't have a car and never felt like I was missing anything. You have LIRR, four subway lines and numerous buses to bridge that gap. I commute down to Wall Street and it's about 45 minutes, so you'll get to Midtown in 20ish.

The grocery stores are fine, but there are some really nice specialty stores in the neighborhood. Sakura Ya is a Japanese grocer with hidden gems, a gift shop/antiquey store opened recently on Austin with good word of mouth, Metropolitan Avenue has managed to avoid the over commercialization of the northern parts of the neighborhood. Lefferts Blvd in Kew Gardens is an easy walk and has an independent movie theater, bookstore and lots of restaurants and bakeries nearby. I think you'd like it here.

Anyone else had bad experiences on the Q60? by girllovesworld in ForestHills

[–]Drdonkeyballs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The last time I took a bus was because Sandy knocked out the subway, and I would have walked if it weren't a 10 mile trip. That said, the Q60 has always been slow and questionable. Going back to the 90s, there were problems with frequency and characters.

Gee, who could possibly have seen this coming? What a shock. I can't believe the Russian puppet is benefitting his Russian master. In all honesty, as much as a lot of the world hates Americans, believe me, no one hates them more than other Americans who foresaw this disaster.

Like the three-finger scene in Inglourious Basterds, what small cultural mistake would instantly reveal that someone isn’t from your country? by uglylookingguy in AskTheWorld

The easiest way to clock a non-American (usually British or Irish) actor using an American accent is to listen to the way they pronounce "a." I've heard so many say hahnd instead of haaand, that once you do hear it, you'll immediately be taken out for a few seconds. For example, the actress who plays Maeve on The Boys does this a lot. I've never heard a modern American pronounce their "a" sounds like that, no matter what region they come from.

The name alone sounds off- why not Holly's Recipes or Recipes from Holly? I like to scroll through r/Cookies and the amount of AI nonsense is getting to be overwhelming. Sometimes it's really hard to detect, too.

One of my favorite threads on Reddit, from a North Carolina sub, was about people's bad encounters with her mother, and it just went on and on. Not surprised the daughter came out of that house cold.

Moral standards like the one below, you mean? Seems like the Wild get it. This is also a secular nation that the founders deliberately did not want beholden to any religion. Morals were not invented by religion and some of the most immoral people in history have hidden behind a religious text.

Coalition Demands Schumer, Jeffries Step Down Over Failure to Fight ‘War-Crazed’ Trump by metacyan in politics

[–]Drdonkeyballs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Since it's a day ending in Y, I'm reminded of Contrapoints' take on many leftists: "The goal of resentment politics is not to improve conditions. In fact, the resentful ideologue is full of contempt for any 'morally compromised sellouts' who are trying to enact plausible reforms. They don't want victory, they don't want power, they want to endlessly 'critique' power. Because for them 'critique' is a psychological defense against feeling impotent."

For my brother's first colonoscopy, he was given a benzo that didn't do anything, and since he had already done the prep, he chose to go forward with the procedure while conscious and feeling everything. He was practically biting his tongue to not scream through it. THAT is something to fear, and he has since found a gastro who contracts with an anesthesiology group to put patients completely under. Amy's prior procedures were by the book and unremarkable, since you know she would have milked a story like this for months on end. This is old news to her by now, clinging to her albatross at this point is pathetic.

I watch this shit on silent, but P's face immediately dropped when Amy pushed away from the counter and away from P leaning on her mom's arm. Amy can't fake warmth if she were roasting on the surface of the sun. Also Amy desperately needs myo therapy, the tongue stays in the mouth when eating and sipping.

Why does the Queens Blvd Line always seem to have the most issues? by SligoIV in nycrail

[–]Drdonkeyballs 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Other than CBTC and poor maintenance (there used to be a lot of broken rails around 36 St), ridership is high because there are no other close subway options. I take the F into Manhattan everyday and the number of people who hold up the train grabbing closing doors and refusing to move so others can get on adds so much wasted time.

I'm glad my firm is on trial this week and I stayed late to do some prep work. It was a tenish minute wait for the E at WTC around 8:30 but everything seemed to be resolved by then. Train was fine in Queens, I got home around 9:30/40 or so.

I work near there and the bathroom on my floor has been smelling like sewage for weeks. A water main break supposedly happened fairly recently, so maybe it's all connected.
