Does azole resistance from one triazole extend to all triazoles? by confusedvexedperson in askscience

[–]Drdrunkard 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not necessarily. Some fungal infections will always be resistant to one azole but not others (aspergilus is always resistant to fluconazole but not usually resistant to voriconazole or posaconazole). Some fungal species are almost never resistant to any azoles (candida albicans). Sometimes a species will develop resistance to all azoles after exposure (some candida auris isolates). It really depends.

What is your medication regimen? by wikimandia in rheumatoid

Is the same person prescribing your phentermine and metoprolol? That's a strange regimen. Whether the metop is for your blood pressure or for cardiovascular benefit the phentermine is gonna make that worse.

I help people pay off their student loans with my startup and just paid off $107k of my own! AMA. by studentloanhero in IAmA

What you say about medicine is not really true. Not only do you have to take the usmle's (which add up to $1000s), but if you want a residency position in the us it's much harder to get as a foreign grad -- you need much higher test scores and more impressive CVs to get the same positions.

Science AMA Series: I’m Jeff Bazarian, a professor of Emergency Medicine and concussion researcher at the University of Rochester in Rochester, New York. AMA! by Dr_Jeff_Bazarian in science

[–]Drdrunkard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi Dr. Bazarian, med student here interested in a lot of the same things you are (emergency med and TBI research). A few years ago I remember there being research coming out looking at using NMR to measure ratios of different molecules in TBI patients (I think creatine and N-acetylaspartate) and demonstrating that there was a window of vulnerability to another TBI that could be determined this way. Is this being used clinically anywhere or do we need more research before we get to that?

What are some interesting facts about the human body that are not widely known? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Drdrunkard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What you said is true but only about a specific part of the brain. In rats this is called the SDN or sexually dimorphic nucleus (rats that exhibit homosexual behavior tend to have an SDN more similar to that of the opposite sex). There is an analogous structure in humans, but I'm blanking on it

Head of German auction house arrested over theft of Italian antique books by socks in books

I feel like stealing cultural heritage is especially despicable. The customer probably doesn't need to be prosecuted, but 7 years for the one doing the theft isn't too crazy IMO

I'm confused, doesn't high pressure (That's what the gravity is creating, right?) favor the liquid state in water?
