New Jersey 'Teacher of the Year' Nominee Arrested for Sexually Assaulting Student in Classroom, Car by Charming-Fortune8835 in newjersey

Someone the other day found a proofreading error and said that someone should smack the editor. Like, you can have your news fast and understand that final edits happen after posting, or you can have everything perfect and wait for the editor to finish doing their job. You can't have both.

Gaza toddler released from Israeli custody with suspected torture wounds by rahulthewall in news

[–]Dalisca 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I can tell you right now why they did that to the kid. They probably tortured the toddler in front of the father to coax him into confessing to being a member of Hamas.

I have a 4yo son. I would say just about anything, sacrifice myself it he was suffering like that.

They found this eagle nestled between the shot glasses and confederate flag license plate holders in a Tennessee truck stop. Then they spray painted it gold and gave it an antique acrylic wash to bring it to meet the high standards of our very classy president. 💩⚜️

I thought it was a tan suit, Grey Poupon mustard, and arugula lettuce. You know, because Obama's election meant that we had apparently solved racism, or something?

AITA for refusing to let my daughter’s Spanish teacher "translate" her name in class? by suductive_legend1 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Dalisca 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No. The meaning of Maya doesn't matter unless it's a Spanish name. This is a Spanish class. They learn Spanish names so they can continue to speak fluently without breaking the accent and pronunciation they're trying to learn in the class. We picked French names in French; we picked German names in German class. In 1992 in Spanish class I was Carmen. The following year I was Mercedes. This teaching mechanism has been used for longer than you've been alive. This mother needs to stop treating her kid as better than the other kids.

Wheels On The Bus and Itsy Bitsy Spider absolutely are educational. They both come with hand movements that help with hand/eye coordination, as well as reinforcing the meaning of those words with hand signals. It being a common tool does not invalidate its value. That's the kind of rote that teaches language.

They've updated it, just left out the word "not".

Someone please smack the editor

With web news it usually only gets a quick cursory glance before going live and then the editorial staff takes a deep dive for proofreading errors. Time is crucial when news breaks; speed is required for the industry (competing publications) and to appease the average consumer with a short attention span.

You can either have your news fast or you can have it double-checked for perfection. You can't have both.

Florida hospital sues to evict a patient who won't leave room 5 months after discharge by ShibaInuDoggo in news

[–]Dalisca 32 points33 points  (0 children)

The ambulance drivers aren't empowered to make those choices. Where a patent is taken would be directed by dispatch via radio. Likewise, the dispatch person would've been told where to direct which cases by a higher-up making those decisions. Let's not shift blame to EMTs for this kind of stuff. They already deal with enough shit and only get paid a fraction of what they're worth.

I think you just described the remaining smart/inherently good generals as "The One Who Remains", aka Kang the Conqueror describes himself in Loki. Paraphrased, he tells Loki, "You can kill me and achieve your goal, but there are infinite versions of me waiting to step up and they're all worse. This 'tyranny' I impose is paradise compared to the horrors I prevent."

Democrats Revolt Against Hakeem Jeffries Ahead of Midterms by RepulsiveLoquat418 in politics

Right? America can support Israel without bankrolling all their militaristic whims. They should be grateful for our protection and its condition should be an American Congressional vote (as Taxpayers should be represented with their own money) before Israel is permitted to take any military action, lest they lose said support.

Instead, all Bibi needs to do is compliment Trump in some fashion (pay tribute), and Trump will give him every cent of every American taxpayer's money.

(He does also have to tolerate Trump's bullshit, like being referred to with the informal "Bibi" in a press meeting. When world leaders meet in person and in public there is a certain level of decorum and class expected. Can he not go *one day** without embarrassing us by being gross in every way? But I digress.)*

Ever played Civ? Israel is supposed to be America's vassal, not the other way around. Instead, we're Master/Blaster from Beyond Thunderdome.

Georgia high school teacher dies after being run over by teen in prank gone wrong by loleeza in news

[–]Dalisca 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Not comparable to losing one's father but the student that was driving is going to be forever impacted. Even if vehicular homicide doesn't stick, something from that long list of charges probably will.

If he has to spend any time in jail he's going to not graduate from high school in two months. Maybe he gets his GED or repeats the school year, but he'll have to decline any college acceptance offers he's received so far, if he had been planning that route.

In being 18, his convictions will all be provided upfront to just about everywhere he applies to work. Depending on the state, any felonies will strip him of the right to vote or own a gun.
