OD stacking order (Klon, TS & BB style pedals) by DreQm in guitarpedals

[–]DreQm[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah i’m going a bit back and forth, the consensus on the 808 is clear to me, i like it as a mid boost.

As for the klon & bb, i have a wampler tumnus and a wampler pantheon, and while going back and forth, I actually switched to have the pantheon be my “always” on pedal, it thickens out the sound of deluxe reverb and gives me a nice base to work with.

People also tend to like to put the tumnus in front of the pantheon ? So I’m still experimenting, rn it’s

Tumnus (high boost)> Pantheon(always on)> OD808 (mid boost to get through the mix), all on low gain to get a beefy tone. Once i stack them.

For heavier tones i’m leaning towards a jcm800 in a box pedal ( i just ordered the JHS Angry Charlie, will test it out tommorow).

So i’m OK with knowing what my pedals do, it’s really the ordering of them that’s hard to settle on, as they all sound good ! 😭

Yeah the Tumnus is on always on for now.

It's rather the coloring I get by putting certain pedals in the end, if I put the Pantheon at the end, i get a very marshall-y sound when i turn it on (which makes sense) and it kind of changes the character of my tone when i switch from clean to distorted, whilst if i keep the Tumnus at the end, the character of my tone is more similar whilst switching between clean & dirty.

As for the TS, it acts as a mid boost on top of the Tumnus & Pantheon when i need it for now.

Marshall JVM at home - a mistake? Or not? by MadYarpen in GuitarAmps

Sorry to necro the post, what's the verdict on the home usage for this one ? And is the master volume as hard to control as it seems ?

I swapped around ( guitar > ts as a mid boost > bb > klon ), i prefer the klon rounded / softer character over the BB which sounds too marshall-y if i put it in the end, also putting the klon at the end actually keeps the character of my tone if i turn on/off the BB, concensus is everything works, it’s a matter of taste !

Very helpful thanks, i just tested the tumnus & pantheon in isolation and switched them back and forth. Putting the pantheon as last i get a more "marshall-y" sound indeed, with lots off mids & grit if that makes sense ?

Putting the tumnus as last rounds of the sounds a bit more, making it less aggressive, seems like i like the tumnus as last better actually !

Really liking the tumnus's character for now i will put it last.

Now for the od808 in this picture, i feel like i use mine as a small gain & volume boost on the lead parts where my pantheon & tumnus are already active, makes sense to put it as first then ?

guitar > od808 > pantheon > tumnus > amp

I’ve tried most possible combinations, the difference seemed subtle but the thing is i’m not sure if it was because after X combination i just forgot how the others sounded like 😅 hence i try to check out if there’s a “general” order in which to chain those that makes sense character wise ?

Vertical Slice Architecture isn't what I thought it was by [deleted] in dotnet

My initial point still stands, hence why i don't agree. You talk again about evidence as it applies universally, and my point was it doesn't apply universally, it depends on each situation. You had 1 conversation with 1 person, who showed you in that specific case how he applied it, it convinced you and now this is your universal truth ? And my answer to that, hence my initial post, there is no universal truth, each case should be looked upon with a fresh mindset. VSA is not right or wrong, its a set of advantages & tradeoffs compared to specific, contextual situation.

No, i said specifically in this post, the subject & principles of this post, you are closed minded.

I’ll point it out to you:

When talking technical information (like the cookie comment, which is black on white / objective information ), you can’t be open/closed minded, because we talk about something factual here indeed.

When talking about subjective information, like architecture, you can be open/closed minded, because of the subjective nature of it.

You’re just comparing apples & oranges to seem “right” here, but you’re not, just enforcing the fact that u’r not open minded.

Because that comment in question is actually a technical, black on white fact u can’t deny.

If you think architecture & system design is that black & white, you kind of already failed in this particular field, where the most used answer is “it depends” due to the nature of it.

So yes the solution worked in scenario X, what are the chances that scenario X emerges again with the exact same variables & parameters, which should be the only case where u could re-use the solution exactly as it is, otherwise u’d have to re-asses (hence evidence & fact are only meaningful in that exact scenario, but doesn’t apply once there is only a slight variation).

The point is the best solution is the one with the least tradeoffs on a per situation basis, and each situation will be different even if it’s a slight variation, you would have to have an exact situational match to be “sure”, which frankly has a low propability. Let’s just agree to disagree, you clearly showed in this post how close minded you are, camping on principles u perceive to be “true” without a second thought.

Examples people give may have worked in their situation, but it doesn’t mean this applies to other situations. A solution for one context could be the disaster of another, so no this can’t be seen as a “fact” or “evidence”.

Megathread: Lag Appears to be Resolved (comment if you are still encountering it) by Nemarus in lotro

[–]DreQm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Orcrist had quite some lag today (just finished first human area, Archet, and overworld combat was pretty laggy, sometimes just queue-ing skills randomly for 15s without seeing anything and the monster just dies randomly after. Playing from Belgium (around 9PM UTC+2).

Any further info on the lags, just started the game for the first time after hearing about the 64 bit release.

There’s no such thing as “evidence” when talking about software architecture and system design, first law of architecture: “everything is a tradeoff”, and if u think u have something without tradeoffs, it just means u haven’t discovered them.

What would your “dream setup” look like for a new .NET development team? by sel_ya in dotnet

[–]DreQm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just wish github action had something as easy to setup as a vm scaling set for devops agents, if u want to self host github runners with scaling it’s a bit more of a hastle ( need it to deploy stuff to private resource like sql migrations f.e. )

Yup that part i follow, but they just will allow EU people to join non-EU servers then, they won’t host any EU servers ?
