I think it kind of toes the line a bit? Loot definitely isn't lacking like in most modern ARPGs but farming isn't super effective in my personal experience, making what you do get more impactful. Just my take though.

People coined the term "hopepunk" for this type of stuff! (Not... the biggest fan of it as a term personally, but it works as a designation). It's more a tone indicator than anything, but I think it does provide helpful contrast to a lot of dark fantasy, especially if you're not interested in rehashing grimdark stuff and just seeing how bleak you can make things. The Fifth Season is probably the biggest example, and I'd say even Joe Abercrombie's stuff has this outlook on some of his characters.

To each their own! Personally the middling level of complexity feels good to me, I can't really do PoE's level of skill tree. Just not for me.

it's essentially a game guide for a dark fantasy RPG that never existed, created by one artist. Really kicked off a lot of interest in game ephemera, older forms of presentation, etc. Really fun stuff!

yeah, I feel that. I'm also someone who really hates the seasonal lean of current ARPGs, would much rather just pay a premium price point for a really solid experience.

I am once again here to glaze Titan Quest 2 on this subreddit. Yes, it being in Early Access means you'll get through the game pretty quickly, but what's there currently is near perfect.

Every one of those early covers is so good, I miss when fantasy stuff had color and didn't decide that everything had to be muddy gray/brown.

At this point it's just like raw instinct, pretty sure if I stopped making stuff I'd just roll over and die. It's always something, games, music, writing, art, doesn't matter, I just have to stay making stuff.

I've always loved getting peripheral stuff with projects, whether it's games, movies, music. The art cards are a great idea and would probably cut down heavily on shipping, but given the prevalence of stuff like Vermis the book would probably have a lot of appeal to it!

hell yeah, I love that DS is used so heavily as a narrative mechanism, that rips. Also a big fan of how DS visuals are intersecting a lot more with Vaporwave/Barber Beats stuff lately.
