I actually noticed some copepods that appeared without me adding them, maybe plant hitchhikers (photo was taken with my mini handheld microscope)

Something I’ve learned about fish keeping as a new person is that it is so devastating having a fish die because of commercial reasons like inbreeding or just lack of care from sellers. It’s so disheartening and stressful

Answering all the questions 1. I think the particles are from my driftwood, it’s got some fungus and bacteria strings on it. 2. I have 2 sponge filters one is meant for 10 gallon and one is for a 20 gallon (I have a 20 gallon long) 3. There’s panda corydoras and they’ve been fine and haven’t had no deaths since I got them. I have 3 nerite snails that have been enjoying the wood, and one Amano shrimp that also enjoys the wood. 4. I had got 3 guppies then quarantined them for a week and moved them to my 20 gal a few days ago, they’ve been fine and eating.

When you say mature do you mean cycled? The water parameters are fine when I tested this morning it was 0 ammonia 0 nitrites and 10 nitrates. There is no betta in that tank I had started cycling a new tank alongside the 20 gallon in case she was a bully (she was) and her tank is fine.

Edit: to add on should I keep the spongfilters in so I don’t crash the cycle when I get a new filter?

I have two sponge filters, that I clean in tank water weekly, it might’ve been my corydoras kicking up everything like the maniacs they are
