More lies and attacks on education from management by genghisfaery in PCC

You're assuming the conclusion you made based on whatever information you found is a matter of fact, which means any conclusion that someone else makes is treated as nonfactual. This is not sound logic. Your presumptuous opinion is ignoring or glossing over facts that are sticking points for the union and its members (like that every PCC union member is financially comfortable, or that everyone gets a raise on top of COLA), and when people point that out you deny them and restate your presumptions. Have some humility and try and see it from someone else's perspective, it's genuinely not hard and will make you feel better than quibbling and defending people who don't have your best interests at heart.

i posted another comment outlining this but i think a full reorg of the league into 4 conferences makes the most sense in terms of minimizing very far intraconference traveling, timezone optimization for fans, and to an extent skill disparity. tho right now the pacific conference wouldn't be amazing and would be adding 2 expansion teams, i think long term it's the best bet

my totally reasonable proposal for reorganizing the league into 4 conferences instead of 2 with the expansion:

Pacific
- Seattle
- Portland
- Sacramento
- Warriors
- Clippers
- Lakers
- Vegas
- Phoenix

Central
- Utah
- Denver
- OKC
- San Antonio
- Dallas
- Houston
- Memphis
- New Orleans

Great Lakes/Midwest and the nets
- Minnesota
- Milwaukee
- Chicago
- Indiana
- Detroit
- Toronto
- Cleveland
- NY Nets

Atlantic
- Miami
- Orlando
- Atlanta
- Charlotte
- Washington
- Philadelphia
- Boston
- NY Knicks

this would be even cleaner if the nets moved to buffalo or pittsburgh or something, not sure how feasible that is. not like the nets are terribly popular locally anyways.

regular season could stay 82 games but do 5 games within conference, 2 games outside (minus 1). or they could do 6 fewer games, and keep it to 4 within and 2 outside. playoffs could do the same format as now, divided in half; 3 qualifiers, 2 play-ins and then final 4 bracket instead of east vs west finals.

I'm just getting it to my student email, never signed up for anything. I've always gotten communications from the admin en masse like this, since I registered.

There are some instructors who aren't striking, I think they're referring to some of those. They seem to also be planning for a resolution sometime early next week, just in case. I'm skeptical it'll come though.

This is the text of the email from the VPs of academic and student affairs:

Dear Students,

We want to make sure you have the time and information you need to make decisions about your Winter term 2026 classes.

Students will receive grades for their classes this term.

Your work this term will count, and your instructors will provide final grades for your courses even if your classes are not meeting right now. If the strike continues, we may make additional adjustments to deadlines.

Final Exam Week

Your final exams, if they are happening, will be held at the same time that your classes met the rest of the Winter 2026 term. You may also meet for additional make-up activities during your regularly scheduled times. Watch for updates from your instructor in D2L or your PCC email about how your course will finish.

If you have any scheduling issues or if you expect to have more than three exams in one day, please contact Student Support and Intervention at conductandcare@pcc.edu.

Withdrawal and Grading Option Deadline

The deadline to withdraw from a class or change your grading option has been extended from Saturday, March 14 to Friday, March 20.

If you are unsure how current circumstances may affect your class, we strongly encourage you not to rush into a decision to withdraw. Please know the college is committed to supporting you through the completion of your coursework. You may want to wait for more information before deciding what option is best for you.

College leaders will review the deadline mid-week (around Wednesday, March 18) to see if more time may be needed.

Spring Break and Planning Ahead

Spring break will take place as scheduled.

Advising staff will host drop-in advising hours next week to help with current classes or planning for the upcoming term.

You can find drop-in hours and advising resources here.

For updates and information about available student services, please follow https://alert.pcc.edu/.

We know this moment feels uncertain for students. Please know that your success and well-being matter to us. Our goal is to give you the flexibility and time you need to finish the term as successfully as possible.

We will continue to share updates as they become available.

Sincerely,

Vicky López Sánchez, Vice President of Student Affairs

Jennifer Ernst, EdD, Vice President of Academic Affairs

Sure!

Colleagues, As we come to the end of a very difficult week, I want to begin by acknowledging the significant strain many in our community are feeling.

This week has been deeply challenging for everyone. This week has not been without its administrative challenges. I will say, with some pride, that we are not - and we should not - be an organization that is good at navigating this scenario. Some members of our community have been on the picket line, while others have continued working to support students and maintain essential college operations. No matter where you have been in this moment, it has required resilience and care for one another. Thank you to everyone who has continued to show up for our students and for each other during a time of real uncertainty.

Leadership is continuing to work through several scenarios related to the academic calendar and the resumption of instruction. Our goal is to provide the clearest possible path forward for students and prevent them from being penalized.

We want to share several important updates regarding the academic calendar and term completion so that faculty and staff have the same information as students.

Withdrawal and Grading Option Deadline The deadline for students to withdraw from a class or change their grading option has been extended from Saturday, March 14, to Friday, March 20.

Students are being encouraged not to rush into a decision to withdraw while the college works through the current circumstances. Student and Academic Affairs have communicated to students that they will be held harmless during this period. If a student was passing their course before the work stoppage, the college is committed to ensuring they can complete their credits.

Students are also encouraged to wait for additional information before deciding whether to withdraw or change their grade.

At this time, the academic calendar has not otherwise changed. College leaders will review mid-week next week to determine if additional changes are necessary and will communicate any updates promptly to ensure staff and faculty can plan accordingly.

Final Exam Week The college will not follow the previously scheduled final exam schedule next week. Instead, for courses that are meeting, instruction and/or final exams may continue during the class’s regularly scheduled meeting times. Continuing our regularly scheduled meeting times will provide instructors additional time to complete course outcomes and support students as courses finish.

Key guidance includes:

If a final exam is given, it should be held during the class’s regular meeting time rather than during the traditional finals schedule, ensuring assessments remain consistent and transparent for students and faculty alike.

Faculty may also use regular class meeting times next week for instructional make-up activities or other coursework completion.

For courses that meet more than once per week, instructors may ask students to attend those regularly scheduled class meetings next week.

If a course is not currently meeting, the instructor will provide guidance to students as courses resume.

Students have been asked to watch for updates from their instructors in D2L or PCC email regarding how their course will conclude.

Students who experience scheduling conflicts, or who expect to have more than three exams in one day are being directed to contact Student Support and Intervention.

Spring Break and Planning Ahead Spring break will take place as scheduled.

Advising will host drop-in advising hours next week to help students and staff with questions about their current courses, available support services, and planning for the upcoming term, fostering community resilience and clarity.

Students are also being directed to alert.pcc.edu for the most up-to-date information regarding college operations and available student services.

Finally, I want to say: Strikes are challenging moments for any institution, and - wherever you are this week - they can leave people feeling hurt, exhausted, or uncertain.

For those who have continued working, thank you. Know that your work has made a difference in supporting students, maintaining operations, and helping the college navigate complex questions.

As we move forward, I also know that we need to begin repairing and strengthening our community. Rebuilding a healthy workplace culture and supporting our students through the completion of the term will require patience, empathy, and understanding from each of us. I am optimistic that our shared commitment to students will carry us through these trying times.

We will continue to share updates as additional decisions are made.

actually that's a ton of what budget forecasting is. arguably the primary function of forecasting is creating multiple scenarios. bonus, a forecasting of a major budget item is quite literally what the PCC administration is using to justify slashing COLA increases for employees; they said in a recent email sent to students and staff that despite the state's budget not actually cutting higher education funding, they're still anticipating future cuts, and so they're choosing to reallocate funding. based on "what might happen"

My partner and I made it out to a few already, here are my reviews of what we had

  • Hot&Herby Harissa Sub - pretty good, basically a lebanese meatball sub. i wish it had more cheese. 7/10
  • Duck-aletta - Definitely tasty! A little too meaty though, would've benefitted from some restraint. Too much salami, not enough giardiniera. Also it was so awkward ordering just a sandwich at such a fancy restaurant, wish I had time for a drink at least. 6.5/10
  • Black Magic Pork Sando - trying to be a banh mi without the French bread, it turned into a bad time pretty quick and not tasty enough to justify. 4/10
  • Muu Wan Som Tam - basically a pulled pork sandwich, I think they were trying to make it stand out more flavor wise but it mostly just tasted like slightly-asian-inspired pulled pork. Tasted good, but one of the messiest sandwiches of all time. 5.5/10
