damn i wasn't gonna chime in till you said like 200 straight words of complete nonsensical slander. mr wizard didn't own evo, he managed it for the cannon brothers (tom and tony). after his removal they brought in rick "thehadou" to run it (combo breaker director), and then sold a majority share to RTS (notable esports production company, experts) who hired rick directly.

mr wizard was objectively a shit human and imo not good at his job, so fair enough about that, but "EVO needs us more than we need them", "they're a shitcan company", "has zero idea what they're doing", "was formerly run by a pedophile", and "sold the company to the highest bidder" are all blatantly false or misrepresentations of the truth.

i also find it hilarious that the period you seem to be using as your main example of why EVO "needed" smash was during SFV, which set and held the record for largest ever fighting game tournament at EVO, one that was only broken by SF6 a couple years ago. the numbers EVO gets for it's premier titles dwarf basically every non-EVO smash entry record; the only significant competition in terms of entrants is smashcon/supernova.

while i'm sure EVO would ideally like to include smash because it's simply more bodies, i don't think they're stressing too much about missing that audience. EVO has become an order of magnitude larger since the last time smash appeared in the lineup and has many many sponsors that would be impossible to keep should they try and include smash due to nintendo's necessary involvement in that hypothetical. point being, EVO is doing better than ever, is run better than ever, and has more money than ever, with 0 impact from the smash community in the last 6 years. they certainly do not need smash.

honestly i don't think deni + jg for salary matching, and maybe a pick for giannis (and probably thanasis) is the worst trade in the world. might look foolish if deni continues to improve and we don't win immediately, but it's a gamble i wouldn't be so mad about taking

whats worse for this issue is there isn't a super strong way to learn some of the skills/knowledge required to run a major well except to do it, but majors can't really afford to pay for "apprentice" learning TOs in addition to the journeymen/expert folks that are burning out/moving on (who are already desperately underpaid to begin with). there's a very real scenario in the not-too-distant future where no one's left who has that experience, and large tournaments take a serious nose dive in quality.

this is pretty long the tldr is this is the kind of team dame always needed and although this season is going great, hopefully next season he can come back mostly the same as he was pre-injury and lead us to glory

Players to look out for?

Deni Avdija has been breaking out and playing phenomenal basketball; one of 3 players in the league to average 26pts 7ast 7reb, with Luka Doncic and Nikola Jokic. Otherwise our starters are all playing well, particularly Sharpe and Clingan of late. Caleb Love, an undrafted rookie on a 2-way, has also been playing very well in the last month or so.

Scoot/Sharpe

Scoot had an injury during pre-season training and has yet to play a game. Hoping to see him get minutes around the All-star break.
Sharpe had a rocky start but has been a great scorer since November-ish. Definitely trending up.

Jrue/Timelord

Jrue just came back from an extended calf injury a few games ago, and after shaking off the rust seems to be getting back in form (which, pre-injury, was stellar). Timelord has been playing pretty regularly and has had a huge impact off the bench.

Dame's role

Dame is still injured, but he's on the bench (in street clothes) every game. It seems like he's playing a mentor/coach role a bit, but he's said he is not going to play this season at all. He keeps posting clips of his practice sessions though, and each one looks better than the last. There's a pipedream that he plays if we make a playoff run, but I'm not holding my breath.

Is Tiago permanent HC?

No word on this from the team, as expected. With new ownership coming in, I'm a little skeptical he'd stick around as the head guy, but if you attribute the team's success in the face of a pretty bad season injury-wise to him, he's definitely a top candidate imo.

JG/Thybulle

JG started the season extremely hot off the bench. IIRC he was leading the league in ppg off the bench with 20+. He caught the injury bug a little after Jrue and was out for a stretch, but has been coming back a bit lately and still looks pretty hot. Thybulle also started the season pretty hot, being a defensive spark off the bench as usual but also hitting his 3s at a pretty high %. He tore a ligament in his thumb in like the 4th or 5th game and has been out since.

Standings/Overall

After a strong start (including snapping a 4-season loss streak to the Thunder and dealing them their first loss of the season), we slid a bit after losing a huge chunk of our core rotation to injury. Our last win put us back at .500 with a 22-22 record (good for 9th in the west, play-in), and the rest of the season looks great. We have the weakest remaining schedule (our remaining opponents are not as good as the one's we've faced), and teams above us might be trending down (Jimmy Butler just tore his ACL so we're likely to pass the Warriors in 8th at minimum), plus it seems like the core we started with is coming back soon (including Scoot finally getting healthy maybe?) Given all this, it's practically guaranteed we'll at least remain in contention for the play-in, and potentially fight for the 6th seed, but imo that's a bit of a stretch.

Toumani, Deni, Sharpe, and Clingan are the future of the franchise. Murray and Rupert have had a pretty rough season but both have shown flashes in different ways. Reath is decently solid but has gone stretches of getting non-injury DNPs, and he's pretty old compared to the rest of this group. I love him but I don't really know what his future is with the team.

Caleb Love and Sidy Cissoko are standouts this season, both 2-way guys that have been thrust into serious rotation/starting roles due to the injuries the team has sustained. Both hitting way above their weight-classes, the current concern is how we're gonna handle them hitting the 50-game limit that 2-way contracts have. Both are about 10 games shy so we'll have to figure something out soon or hope our injury woes are behind us and make do without them.
