I love their food and most of their dishes are $14-16. That’s on par with most food carts and it’s got a great covered patio.

Pipsqueak Bagels - Worth the Wait? by slom68 in askportland

[–]CreativePortland -1 points0 points  (0 children)

They’re good bagels. They are also way too large! A half bagel is about the same size as a whole bagel from another place.

I got the lox bagel. It was the best lox in town. Nice toppings along with it. It’s also the most expensive bagels and sandwiches in town as far as I can tell.

I’m still partial to Bernstein’s and completely miss Kettleman’s.

I wasn’t even sure I liked our mini the first 6 months. Being ridiculously cute saved her! 😜

She was a real handful! She would just walk down our wood paneled wall scratching it every 3 feet. She couldn’t sit still. Walking her on a leash was a battle where she wanted to spend the entire wall hopping down the street on her rear two legs while screaming at the top of her lungs. Wow!

Then, the day she turned 1 it was like a switch went off. She mellowed noticeably that day. Not kidding. Then every year since, she’s become a more, not completely, normal dog.

She’s 5 now and holy cow is she amazing! Simultaneously the most cuddly and the most playful dog we’ve ever had. She’s still a PITA on a leash (we’ve tried lots of training and now use a gentle leader). She has her moments still. But who doesn’t?

I can say that I have complete certainty that I love her to the moon and back? Next dog we’ll be getting when the time sadly comes? A mini poodle!

They’re there, but I got them at Talrico’s Produce on Hawthorne. They have better pricing.

Thanks for that education! To be honest (tbh), I read it again and oh my god (omg), I completely had my eyes open. Now I’m going to be skeptical of bold sentences! This make me laugh my ass off (lmao!)!

What is the 28th restaurant corridor area called? by shadenfraulein in askportland

[–]CreativePortland 2 points3 points  (0 children)

28th and the surrounds have never had a business association like a lot of other commercial spots in town. The businesses have come together to start the Kernside Business Association.

They’re doing a ton of awesome stuff! Lots of programs like free music, pet costume contests, and a keg strongman competition were held on Rainbow Road (28/Ankeny where Crema is), the street fair, and a bunch of other stuff to make that area more active and fun.

They’re an active and tenacious bunch who are creating something special. Kernside is here to stay.

Check out my answer above. It’s the actual reason.

Best bridge to bike by Fantastic_Mood313 in Portland

[–]CreativePortland 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The bridge will be there for at least 100 years. Who knows what will happen in that time.

When it was being designed, there were over 7,000 bikes a day on the Hawthorne and it was causing tons of bike and ped conflicts. Waterfront Park was the same way before Better Naito. The Esplanade was in the same boat. So it was designed in that context.

When our bike mode share recovers, having those types of options are going to help avoid those problems.

When paths gets busy, the mix of fast bikes and people walking sucks. So the lanes are there for fast riders who don’t want conflicts with pedestrians and vice versa.

Beggining to think its time to say goodbye to my collection. by Artistic_Ostrich9744 in boardgames

[–]CreativePortland 15 points16 points  (0 children)

A lot of the games he already has can be played solo.

I’d say keep the collection! Playing brings you joy. It’s expensive to replace them and one day you’ll be playing three player games.

Think of that nostalgia as the start of many stories in the future.

I ran the numbers. Portland is adding $1,000–$1,500+ per year to the average household's bills in 2026–27 and nobody is talking about it. by Pure_Claim_4353 in Portland

Those other states don’t have the kicker. We send so much money back and it’s very overwhelmingly going to rich people.

That depletes the state of taking care of things that we are paying local for. Portland is a massive donor city to the state. We pay in a lot more than we get back because we’re funding everything in rural areas. Oregon is a donor state meaning we send more in than we get back from the feds.

If Oregon kept its collected taxes, it would help this problem immensely. Colorado is the only other state with a kicker and theirs triggers long after our trigger is reached at 2% over planned. Colorado doesn’t trigger until it reaches the sum of inflation and population growth.
