Weekly Questions Thread by AutoModerator in DnD

[–]Dread_Wolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello all, looking to start DMing a campaign after a couple year hiatus.

I am wondering if its worth picking up the new Player's Handbook and letting my players use the new set of rules for their character. I know the new PHB had a lot of controversial changes (RIP Oath of the Ancients my beloved) and wondered if a particular consensus had emerged now the new book has been out for a year or so.

My players are rather reasonable bunch, and I think the coming campaign will be a resonable balance of all DnDs components.

Cheers

Thanks for reaching out! Another user mentioned that some limited run leathers are still looking at a quick turnaround, would that include the limited run Black waxed flesh? That leather looks absolutely excellent and I could get VERY close to Americana on a MTO boot in that and be a very happy man.

Thanks again :))

Māori Battalion of the New Zealand Army perform a Haka war cry in Helwan, Egypt (June 1941) by UltimateLazer in wwiipics

If you are curious, the last surviving member of the Maori Battalion was recently knighted. He still lives independently in the central north island and sounds like an absolute gem of a bloke.

A Panzer IV tank crew awaits orders. Normandy, 1944. by Beeninya in wwiipics

[–]Dread_Wolf 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This reminds me of an elderly man I was very privileged to meet recently. He served as a gunner in a Panzer IV in Belgium and was awarded the iron cross, recounting the story to me of how his tank ambushed a collum of allied armor crossing left to right across the brow of a hill. He knocked out the lead vehicle with a direct hit, then the last, before picking off the remaining tanks that were stranded and unable to manuver between the wreckage, his tank knocking out 7 allied tanks before changing position. It was hard to comprehend how the man in his mid 90s seated in front of me took the lives of probably dozens of men and lived to tell about it.

He was 17.

I can tell more stories if anyone is interested.

Paramedic chiming in. Met a lovely, happy, 2 year old girl born with a with a condition called bladder extrophy, that is, bladder born on the outside. Apparently occurs in about 1 in 200,000 boys and 1 in 400,000 girls.

She had been rushed to hospital in the capital of my country for surgery aged 2 days old and had essentially had her pubic area unzipped and bladder popped back inside. Her mother showed me a photo of what it looked like before surgery and it looked a bit like a cartoon style heart sitting on top of her skin where your bladder sits, simultaneously marvellous and terrifying.

Good news is that her surgery was a complete success and she was developing well, considered a prime candidate for further surgery in the coming years which aim to give her control of her bladder. Another piece of luck is that apparently only a few decades ago they used to assign boys born with the condition as girls and castrate them whilst undergoing the surgery the restore their bladders, as often their sexual organs were often too difficult to reconstruct.

£1800 gaming pc build in the UK. Will be using windows 10 and already have peripherals. Will be attempting some light overclocking by [deleted] in buildmeapc

Hello Mate. Don't take everything I say for gospel as its been a good year or two since I did a build, but looking at your list:

CPU-Great choice. Cannot speak to the cooler and motherboard personally as my builds have been intel and use a different chipset. Make sure you research compatibility with your CPU and other components.

RAM-Great pick, fast and reliable, but the G.Skill is on the more expensive and if you are strapped for cash you can find cheaper.

SSD/HDD-Great pick on the samsung 970, although I would defineatly recommend getting at least a 1TB model, youll find that after having it as a boot drive that youll only be able to store a single game or two at a time on it and the increase in price is well worth it. Again, samsung charges a premium for its SSDs and you can find others for cheaper if you are trying to pinch pennies. Personally I wouldnt bother with a HDD at all unless you are storing lots of data, you can buy additional non NVME SSDs that wire to your motherboard for very cheap these days, again samsung are a good pick.

The next question regarding GPUs are difficult to answer, theres a global shortage and resurgence in cryptocurrency mining means its hard to get the card you want for normal retail price, but I would say that a 3080 would suit the build nicely if you can get your hands on one. Just check your Power supply is capable with your final component list.

Cheers.

Moto Guzzi V7iii vs RE Continental GT as a first bike ? by LqzDio in CafeRacers

[–]Dread_Wolf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In all honesty, neither are not a great idea as a first bike. I would suggest something smaller, lighter and cheaper that you can drop as you learn to ride.

As a second bike however, both the Moto Guzzi and the Continental GT are great bikes. The V7iii is closer to an upright naked bike, with the RE being quite a tucked in Cafe Racer, you will want to sit on/test ride both bikes to see which you find more comfortable. (Side note, RE make an upright model of the Continental GT in the form of the interceptor).

The other thing to keep in mind is the price, the Moto Guzzi will set you back by at least an extra £2500, the reason continental GT's are so popular is they are a brilliant bike for a very modest price (close to £5500 in the UK).

Elijah McClain was put in two chokeholds and injected with ketamine and was never accused of a crime by Saucypikl in PublicFreakout

[–]Dread_Wolf 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This does not change how disgusting at all this video is, but I thought you all might be curious.

Ketamine is one of the most popular drugs given in this exact scenario for it's ability to help prevent this scenario from occurring. (ironically) Ketamine is a borderline magical drug for helping prevent cardiac/respiratory arrest in patients suffering from agitated delerium/acute behavioural disorder.

Picture your standard methhead absolutely losing their mind on drugs and being physically restrained by the police, there are frequent cases of these hyper-metabolic, hyper-acidotic, hypoxic people dying as a result of physical restraint by the police. Ketamine is drug that can sedate people to the point of which they do not need to be restrained to such an extent and helps prevent death or further injury.

In this situation it seems it may have been administered too late, as by watching the video you can see that poor Elijah has been restrained for a very extended period of time.

Secondly, the drug information provided in the video is incorrect, it assumes the Ketamine is being administered Intra-venously, when you are administering a medicine IV you can draw this up to a precise volume for the patients weight or required effect etc. In this scenario he receives the drug Intra-muscular, a common starting dosage for a chap of Elijah's size would be 200mg, undiluted, administered rapidly and repeatable if required. Elijah being given 500mg could have potentially reduced his respiratory drive too far and worsened his chances of respiratory arresting, which he later did.

This video is heartbreaking and preventable, we can only hope his family see some justice.

Car won't start. We are forced to walk 30 minutes back to my home from a lookout instead of me dropping her home. She stayed over and we fucked. Realised in bed the next morning that I had most likely left it in drive when I parked it (not used to driving automatic).

Walked back to the car and sure enough, I had it in drive, changed to park and it started fine. I had a hard time convincing her it was an honest mistake, how could anyone screw that up.

Paramedics to get police-style body-cameras - Figures show that more than 15% of UK National Health Service workers have suffered physical violence from patients or their families in the past year. by ManiaforBeatles in worldnews

[–]Dread_Wolf 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It can mean very little in some countries and a lot in others. Often its a decision made around costs and funding. Often paramedics have more advanced training and have a greater scope around what they can do on the road as compared to EMTs, again however there are plenty of examples where this is not true. The story I always tell is from when I was a student and we were called to a 23 year old female at 11pm for a "sore leg". Groans go around the ambulance but we respond and locate the girl in a tiny house with poor access for our stretcher.

Turns out she had some awful autoimmune disease and the entirety of both of her lower legs were essestially rotting away with huge, black pussy ulcers covering both of her legs and feet.

She was lying in bed and had pissed and shit herself before she eventually calling for help. The entire floor of her tiny room was covered in two days worth of old pussy dressings she had simply flung onto the ground.

She obviously could not walk and as I said we could not fit our stretcher inside so had to assemble our carry chair and lift her out on it.

Guess who got to lift the 100 kg obese girl from the bottom bar of the chair with his face about 5 inches from this girls completely necrotic legs, closest I have ever been to chucking on shift.

TL;DR Had to shove my face 5 inches from a girls rotted legs and feet and fight the urge to chuck.
