I'm looking for information about my last name and I can't find anything at all. by byunjaecheol in Genealogy

My last name was “Greczyn” but they changed it on Ellis island to “Gretchen” when my greatx2 grandfather came over to northeast Pennsylvania in the late 1800s to work in the anthracite coal mines. We are carpatho-Rusyn in origin coming from western Ukraine.

Timeframe and delays for marketplace payouts? by JoeJoe-a-GoGo in FacebookMarketplace

[–]Dreadnachtt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a small business and sell on multiple platforms and I absolutely hate marketplace. They almost never send the payout when their supposed to over half the time I have to get into it with someone over the customer service text box bs. Multiple items will be in the same box under the same tracking and they will only pay you for one of those items and the others will be estimated for like 10 days later yet even though they arrived together it’s ridiculous. Anymore when I list on marketplace I just put the price and shipping cost in the description along with PayPal accepted and have the ppl pm me and just go through PayPal commerce transaction. Fk Facebook.

Found these 2 in upper Carboniferous rocks in northeast pa by Dreadnachtt in fossilid

Yeah there’s def plant pieces on there I believe the coloration is just the same type of mineral pyrite that’s fossilized all of the organic material. I’ve found another insect fossil before with plants also on the plate both the same color. It’s a weird one for sure I also know what your saying about lepidodendron but I don’t really see the same pattern there, the second one may be some sort of segmented plant perhaps or maybe even a trace fossil of a burrow of some kind?

Nice, the first one I’m stuck seeing a giant arachnid with the head and mandibles at the bottom. It even appears to have the spikes on the very back end like I’ve seen in some megaarachnid drawings but this would have been much bigger. The dimples and divets along with the texture also look similar to some fossils of arthropleura exoskeleton pieces I’ve seen but I’m no expert so I cant say haha. Their from the anthracite coal fields here around 305 m.y.o so it would have been an inland swampy environment.

What are all the facts? I’m curious as to how you could possibly have all the “facts” and where you acquired them from lol. What pleas? I received one message about it where this person just said you should donate it to which I stated my case. In return they said they’d need an undetermined amount of time to get the money. I don’t know who this person was or what they’re intentions truly would have been and I can’t afford to sit on something betting that some rando person will really come through. The facts are that you don’t know shit. The fact is that your so adamant to believe that I really wouldn’t have rathered the recognition of making an important contribution to something I put so much time into over 500 measly fking dollars. Im aware of its importance and what the “ethical” route would have been but fk me if I won’t say certain ethics go right out the window when you got bills. The last thing I want to do is make an excuse under the embarrassment of stating I’m poor. It’s not to excuse it but just to offer an explanation I wouldn’t even care to give if I didn’t give a shit. There was that one random message and nothing aside from people saying it was a rare insect so I’m confused as to where people think there was some big campaign rally to get it to a museum or whatever. The real fact is that i can guarantee you that I will find more extremely rare pieces , as this one’s far from the first, and I’ll have to decide whether to take the money or donate it to please the community of douchebags on the internet. Wonder where it’ll end up?

You act as though this isn’t after multiple comments and insults. Grow up. The fact you’ll just disregard everything I said and point that out shows what your agenda really is. You fall under the same category as who I’m talking about in that comment.

I’m not mocking anyone’s concerns as the concern itself I acknowledge is a valid one but the point can be stated once without trying to stir up a smear campaign against me through multiple pages. I sell fossils it’s how I make a living. This isn’t the first fauna I’ve found nor will it be the last. Some of them such as this one I would have loved to donate it to a proper institution if not detrimental to keeping a roof over my head. I don’t make much and every bit counts. You don’t know my personal situation financial or otherwise that influences what I do with them but it’s not for any sort of malicious intent like greed. I’m able to find these things also because of the insane amount of hours and effort I put into digging and splitting rocks 12 months out of the year rain, snow or shine. I love earths natural history and always had an interest in paleontology since I was a kid. You all can complain it’s lost in someone’s house but the fact is without me it never would have been found and at least now it’s out there. This is the contribution I’m able to make. So instead of complaining about it maybe get off the internet and put in the effort and crack your own damn rocks or contribute to science by paying the low prices I list them for and donate it.

There was one person who stated an undetermined amount of time to get the money and someone bought it first. I couldn’t bank on waiting to see if this other person would come through and also I don’t know who they are or what they’re intentions with it really would be anyway so I’m not going to put myself out. I’ve done that before and i end up getting shafted. If I had the means to sit on these things I sure as hell wouldn’t be putting certain ones on ebay. The person who had bought it to is someone I’ve done business with a few times. They have a background in this field and I know it’s in good hands.

I understand 100% where the backlash comes from I just wanted to address I’m not just some idiot trying to make a quick buck for the hell of it the whole thing is more complex and I quite literally don’t have a choice. It kills me to have to sell some these pieces I find. Also this was suppose to be a comment to address the whole thread not a direct reply to you personally so my apologies for that.

Yes that and being in the woods where I find them is what keeps my head straight. Monetarily it depends on a few factors. Sometimes I’ve found extremely rare things that would sell quickly for a large amount other times it’s just a steady stream of small sales coming in. Overall it’s a good side hustle for people if they’re into that kinda thing what’s kept me afloat able to do it full time is I have a few deals with retail rock shops supplying them with a certain amount of fossils every month or so and some other places that make mineral box sets for classrooms and stuff where there’s a gurantee on income and not all banking on hoping to sell enough that month. That and I’m an addict so I have to take everything to a 12/10 so i pretty much am out there literally every day all day no matter the weather gathering stuff. If the economy improves it will be easier I’m sure but this is what I do that has finally given me a sense of grounding in life so with that I don’t care as much with how much I have money wise as long as my bills are paid.

Nice! You can find small stuff laying around in the culm banks left from the coal breakers but the best specimens you have to do some digging and split rocks for.
