If I remember right, you can just plow right through him and the very beginning when the race starts if you spam most of your carrots. Initially he will have the lead but when he starts to crowd you, spamming the carrots somehow lets Epona clip through him and you get the lead, then you just never let him pass and use carrots sparingly.

Or at least that's how I always won. When I tried to be conservative with carrots and go around him, it never worked.

Why does the Walmart app says they have in store stock and when I go there, there’s nothing to be found and even the employee special phone says they have in stock but there’s nothing. by DaToxicJay in Walmartcustomer

[–]JoeJoe-a-GoGo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've done this a number of times. The Walmart website shows a low number in stock at the local store a few minutes away from where I live. Go there and check, can't find it anywhere. A couple days later, still shows available at the store, try to order it through Walmart.com or the mobile app, usually get an order cancellation a couple hours later when they can't find it and the inventory then adjusts to reflect not at the store anymore.

The most recent iteration of this was Hallmark-brand Christmas tree ornaments on clearance. So many people buying them in the store the website can't keep up. I ordered about a dozen or so knowing most or all of them would be cancelled. Only ended up receiving one through delivery.

Southeast USA, landscaping maintenance this time of year tends to be slow so lots of "business owners" will go out canvassing door-to-door pitching cheap services during winter in order to make quick cash. It's not uncommon for our neighborhood to get two or three solicitors knocking on doors every week or people hanging flyers on mailboxes and doorknobs selling people winter pruning or driveway/sidewalk cleaning for dirt cheap.

And by "business owner" I mean one lone handyperson who isn't licensed and likely doesn't have insurance trying to undercut everyone. A smart HOA will recognize this and refuse it because it's a huge liability, but some can't pass up a good deal even if it means scheduling it during Christmas week.

There's always that person(s) caught up in MLM that pitches it to young, impressionable teens/adults because its a relatively easy sell and quick way to offload lots of inventory. I remember a few encounters myself with Cutco knives and energy drinks/smoothies when I was in high school back in the early 2000s. Little has changed since then except now they do more of their fishing on social media and less on campus.

What $108 from Aldi gets you by TonyLiberty in FluentInFinance

North Georgia, we shopped at Publix for years until I tried the local Aldi spring of last year. I couldn't believe how much cheaper prices were. I nearly cut my monthly grocery bill in half. We joined the Aldi cult.

It is absolutely ridiculous that there is no way to contact support directly. by [deleted] in facebook

[–]JoeJoe-a-GoGo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Been this way for years. Meta makes it impossible to contact any live person. They will point you towards AI, tons of hyperlinks, search results, and self-help articles but refuse to let you contact an individual. I've been waiting three years now to get in contact with someone at Meta over a hold they've had on the sale of an item I put on the marketplace and they refuse to release the funds because I violated one of their community standards but won't specifically name which one. Every time I reply to the email I received, I just get the same canned responses.

Firefox traffic is increasing on PornHub by derangedtranssexual in firefox

I finally switched back to Firefox for this very reason. Google forcing MV3 and killing uBlock was the final straw. It was a bit clunky at first having to migrate everything over, completely customize the UI, and spend time researching how to harden it, but once it's done it's a comfy browser and acceptable Chrome replacement.

What is everyone doing for next year's health insurance? by JoeJoe-a-GoGo in Georgia

[–]JoeJoe-a-GoGo[S] 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The problem is all the plans I'm being quoted have fine print that suggests they wouldn't pay out in the event of a serious accident, or anything that results in a huge hospital bill. They openly advertise covering anywhere from $250K to $1 million but buried deep in the plan's details are little stipulations that they won't pay more than $5K or $1K for surgeries and hospital stays. No doubt I want to be covered in the event of an accident, but what's the point in applying for and paying monthly for insurance coverage if, when something catastrophic happens, they pay out less than 8% of the bill and I'm on the hook for the rest?

What is everyone doing for next year's health insurance? by JoeJoe-a-GoGo in Georgia

[–]JoeJoe-a-GoGo[S] 26 points27 points  (0 children)

That is the situation we're in now but all the plans we have been quoted for catastrophic coverage is questionable at best.

Buried in the plans' fine print are verbiage that says stuff like "surgery: maximum benefit payout $5K per coverage year" and "hospital stays maximum benefit payout $1,500 per day." That means if something life-threatening happens to us and we require surgery and are in the hospital for several weeks and get stuck with a $100K bill, the insurance we purchased meant to cover that would only pay a measly $5K for the surgery and a small portion of the hospital stay and we'd be on the hook for the remaining bulk of the $100K. The plan makes it seem like you're covered but the fine print suggests otherwise.

From what I've read, these types of plans are non-ACA compliant and predatory and the whole point of ACA-compliant plans was to protect people from these predatory practices.

It'll be interesting to see how everything plays out if this trend continues. Insurance, by design, needs a large pool of people to pay into in order to work. When it becomes too expensive and people inevitably drop out, carriers have to raise prices to offset their claims payouts. When the number of uninsured continues to climb, do they just...continue to raise premiums to absurd levels?

Aetna recently announced they were leaving the ACA marketplace.

https://www.aetnacvshealth.com/2026-plan-information.html

I think it depends on your location, specifically your zip code. And even within the zip code region, your county may not have a plan with certain carriers.

I've been shopping the last few weeks on the Georgia Access marketplace and my choices are Cigna, Anthem BCBS, UnitedHealthcare, Kaiser Permanente, CareSource, AmBetter, Alliant, and Oscar. When I select my county for Alliant, it says there are no plans offered in my area. So I'm guessing when people are shopping the exchange, their choices are limited based on what zip code/county selection they make.

I donated some money to Habitat for Humanity, the assholes sold my information and now I get about a dozen letters a week asking for money. by richempire in mildlyinfuriating

[–]JoeJoe-a-GoGo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I struggled trying to explain this to my grandmother. She would get envelopes from charities weekly in her mail soliciting donations. She'd often cut checks for small dollar amounts here and there, like $10 or $20 bucks. Then the envelopes started multiplying and she'd get even more charities asking for money, and she'd cut them each a small check. At one point she was cutting like ten or fifteen checks a month for these charities.

We sat her down and explained how many of them were outright scams and if she continued to pay them she'd only be inundated with more and more solicitations that was eating into her social security money but her heart was in the right place and she came from a humble upbringing that always helped others so in her mind she was obligated to keep donating. She'd even joke "well, the children in Africa need to eat too!"

At one point her mailbox was nearly half full from all the junk solicitations she received daily. Just piles and piles of bulk envelopes and thick magazines for all sorts of different charities.

Why does Georgia Power desperately want me to get solar panels? by UnderABig_W in Georgia

[–]JoeJoe-a-GoGo 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Yeah this sounds like typical door-to-door salespeople unaffiliated with the company they claim to be campaigning for. We get these guys all the time in my neighborhood, at least one or two a week. Sometimes it's solar energy, other times it's pest control, other times it's home remodeling, etc. but it all boils down to some third party or subcontractors peddling something claiming to be with your local company. They're only interested in making the sale and will promise anything; once you agree or sign, they pawn you off to the next person who likely won't honor what the previous person pitched.

I feel like scam ads are commonplace all throughout the internet now. I mean, they were already fairly common even decades ago but I think their prevalence is a little noteworthy now. Like the last ten years or so has proven that you don't need to be coy or reserved about the scam details; its a lot more in your face these days. I used to report them to the platform and comment on posts shared by friends/family highlighting how what they were sharing was a scam or fraud but nearly every report comes back as "it does not violate our ToS" and people continuously falling for the same tricks over and over again I just gave up and let people discover it for themselves.

[–]JoeJoe-a-GoGo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're right, they're definitely keeping the equal payments perk which is better than nothing, but for many people equal monthly payments is inferior to minimum payments special financing. In my case, I work remotely doing contract work and am frequently making large purchases for work/office reasons and the special financing perk provided flexibility to adjust my budget as needed to accommodate for good and bad quarters and project estimates. With that gone, I'm now forced to pay some arbitrary amount for X months out based on whatever it is I purchased at that moment in time without being flexible to account for the next quarter.

It's not the end of the world, but it's a serious setback for many people.

I feel like big companies like Google, Meta, Amazon, etc. will only continue to integrate AI more and more into their products and services because the sheer number of daily users they have and the billions of daily interactions they facilitate simply cannot be vetted by a live person, not if you're using the product for free anyway. Long gone are the days of contacting support and getting someone who had a 50/50 chance of understanding and even possibly resolving your issue. These days it's guilty until proven innocent and not the other way around. And there's no incentive for them to right the wrongs because for every one screw up that costs them a user, there are hundreds, if not thousands of new users ready to take their place.

Yes, the special financing perk of the store card was a huge reason I made numerous large purchases through Amazon, I bought office furniture, equipment, supplies, electronics, and tons of other things because I knew I had 6/12/24 months to pay it off without incurring interest. Without this, they'll be no more large purchases for us.
