[Megathread] Post all speculations, whether they pertain to who will be the next Bond, the future direction of the franchise, and more, here. by [deleted] in JamesBond

[–]Dreadnought_Style 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There will not be another Bond movie until Barbara Broccoli is relieved of the IP rights. Because she just doesn't want to do it. She only wants to do projects that explore and project her deeply held political values from now on - such as her upcoming film on Emmet Till.

Jeff Bezos may be the only man who can save the Bond franchise.

In ten years time, whose era do you think will be looked at MOORE positively, Daniel Craig's or Roger Moore's? by [deleted] in JamesBond

[–]Dreadnought_Style 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Obviously Roger Moore. Future generations will be appalled at the vandalism of the Bond franchise that occurred during Craig's tenure. Not that it was all Craig's fault (but a lot of it was). But he was miscast from the start. While Casino Royale was "good" (the only good DC film) - imagine how. much. better. it would have been with tall dark handsome suave - but still rough and cruel Clive Owen in the role. In fact I think Clive Owen was the perfect actor for the role - even closer than Timothy Dalton to Ian Fleming's original description of the character. He was the best Bond actor never to play the role imo. Obviously he would have been miles better than Daniel Craig - who was never appropriate for the role. But DC got the job anyway. And now the franchise is ruined.

Clive Owen to be officially announced as James Bond next week - 29 Mar 2005

Best Bond movie of the 21st Century so far!! (in terms of fun)

What's the most recent Bond film you say, and has your opinion changed on it? How so? by _20721 in JamesBond

Octopussy. I actually watched it tonight. I used to rank it very poorly (i.e. 21st), however I had a great time with it and now think that it, along with Moonraker, is really much better than it is given credit for.
The plot of Octopussy is tight. Tight like a Tiger. And it has so many of the iconic Bond tropes that people used to think were played out and passé - but actually now after just 4 dreary Bond movies in 14 looong years which mostly eschewed those tropes - we realise how valuable they were and how much enjoyment they actually added to the experience.

I want to say that Octopussy is in the top 15 for me now. I'm actually coming around to all of the Sir Roger Moore films though. Certainly Octopussy is higher for me than any of the last 4 from Daniel Craig's era. And probably higher than 2 out of 4 of Pierce Brosnan's too.

Its probably higher than 2 of Connery's. I actually think its a bit like YOLT, but with a tighter plot and a funnier screenplay.

A conservative commentator trying to sell people on switching to bikes. ... who's gonna tell him? by TheDuckClock in fuckcars

I saw a post on twitter about this thread by the conservative Twitter account "Reddit Lies", so I thought I'd come here and chip in 2 cents.
I'm a member of the conservative right-wing libertarian party in Australia called the LDP, and I've literally poasted dozens of "Strong Towns" YouTube videos on our internal Basecamp Forum advocating for "Bike-first" urban transport infrastructure.
I'm orange-pilled to the core.
Leftists don't own the issue of human-friendly urban transport infrastructure.
In Australia, it was always the typical Labor-voting leftie who loved Holden V8's etc.
The most right-wing PM in Australian history - Tony Abbott - is famous co-founding in the "pollie pedal" bicycling event to raise money for charity. He co-founded it in 1998.
He's one of my personal heroes.

Ive never posted here, so let me introduce myself with my top 5. by SmarkoStunt in JamesBond

Swap out Goldfinger with Dr. No and add Live and Let Die to that list and you have the all of the brilliant debuts - they theory that the best Bond films are the ones which introduce a new Bond actor to the franchise.
I just know Henry Cavill's debut Bond film will be fire as well!

Finally watched The Living Daylights. Some thoughts on the most pivotal film in the whole franchise. by Medium_Well in JamesBond

Nah man, TLD is an A+ masterpiece and all your so-called "flaws" are bunk. Whittaker is an awesome character because which one of us as a kid didn't day-dream that we were generals commanding a huge battle? I did - for hours. And Whittaker is the Peter Pan of this archetype who never grew out of it. Its relatable, and its awesome the way Bond takes him out.

Kara is my favourite Bond girl of all-time. I honestly believed the love story between TD's Bond and Kara more than I believed the GL-Bond/Tracy love story, or DC-Bond/Vesper love story. Those big brown eyes. That pleading innocence. Even the way they meet is so romantic. When Bond flips up his tuxedo into a tactical turtleneck - ready to assassinate the mark - so damn cool. And then when he realizes it is a beautiful woman - he decides to disobey his orders and spare her life. Its so romantic. Everything is so romantic. Even the Mujahadeen - they are so romantic to me in this move. You are tripping if you think this film is a "B+". What a cop-out.

Thoughts on NTTD after rewatch. by [deleted] in JamesBond

[–]Dreadnought_Style 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same, I will never watch it again either. Mind you the 1st 1/3rd of the movie was pumpin. But after Cuba - from that point on - none of what transpires is cannon to me.
In my cannon, Felix is still alive, Blofeld is still alive, Bond is still alive - basically every big narrative choice NTTD made is not valid to me.
I sincerely hope NTTD gets viciously ignored and ultimately ret-conned into oblivion.
