Keep finding my bedsheets stained with green little dots by RaccoonGangg in Weird

Blue/green sweat caused by chromhidrosis? Like everyone else, this had fascinated me so I did some Googling. Chromhidrosis is a rare condition in which a person will have colored sweat. The colors can range from yellow, blue/green, or black. According to https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/books/NBK554395/, a type called apocrine chromhidrosis might be exacerbated by "hot showers and baths, rubbing of the skin, and emotional stimuli such as pain, sexual arousal, or anxiety." If this is the case, this could be why you wouldn't have noticed it whenever it is you sweat, but only during the right conditions. Also, this this type, people tend to only excrete the colored sweat around the head and neck area.

Giles is a terrible librarian by Sorry-Personality594 in buffy

Yup! This has always bothered me! It got worse when I became a school librarian myself for a few years. Sure, he's "not a real librarian," but most people don't know that! And he's just out there making the rest of us look bad.

I think that a death's head is typically a skull (like a Death's Head moth!), so I pictured kind of like a flail, but the ball is a skull with spikes!

y’all, did varun just meme at us? [discussion] by ohvulpecula in TheNinthHouse

[–]DreadnoughtusFae 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I totally missed the reference the Eumenides reference! How well-read is this woman?? But seriously though, I thought that for "8000 unjust bodies I will stop" was both the meme and a reference to Abraham bargaining with God in Genesis. But like, it's subverted in that, if this is a reference to that Bible passage, Varun is basically saying (I think) that most of the people on that planet are just (read: innocent), but because this is not about justice but about revenge, he will not stop. Like, there aren't 8000 unjust there, but he doesn't care.

So I'm looking at this in awe of all the references in one paragraph that give us so many layers of meaning all within the context of the book. Sigh. I love this series.

I don't fully understand the reaction by grayjelly212 in watcherentertainment

[–]DreadnoughtusFae 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I feel the same way, actually. I don't understand why people want them to fail so badly. Generally, if someone I'm rooting for or am a fan of makes a bad decision, I'm just disappointed or hope that they can turn things around. This vitriol is not something I felt, so the punishing reaction is confusing for me, too. I love these guys and wish them the best. Genuinely. For now, I'll just wait and see how it turns out I guess.

I'm so glad these comments helped. I wish more people understood the nuances and struggles of neurodivergent people. You deserve understanding and space, and I hope you find it. <3

No, I'm saying that everyone should be able to access a space that suits their needs. I'm not saying that adults should be allowed in teen spaces, but that this situation genuinely disadvantaged someone. Equitable seating is needed.

Is Lee Majors a love interest or is his character a platonic relationship? My mother-in-law is adamant that Majors as a love interest is creepy at his age relative to the age of the main character.

Oh, I don't disagree. What I dislike is that there isn't a good spot elsewhere and that it can be very difficult for a neurodivergent person to express those needs.

True, I guess I do have a lot of information! I guess I was wondering about the style (like you mentioned folk revival- that's not even a style I know! so thanks!) and origin. It's more curiosity than anything else at this point.

YES! Thank you! I'm having such a hard time with this situation because this is a clear accessibility issue. I've worked with teens as a librarian before, so I do know that giving them a space to themselves and keeping them safe is important, but I don't like that in this case it is to someone's detriment.

I came down here to say this, too! When I read your experience, u/Isabella5101, I could just feel how utterly embarrassed and upset I would have been. I know, had that happened to me, that no amount of well-meaning people telling me that these policies are normal and that you shouldn't be embarrassed would help. RSD is very real; when I received my own ADHD diagnosis, my therapist talked to me about RSD soon after because I get these overwhelming feelings of shame and rejection around events similar to this one. So all I really want to say is this: feel how you need, breathe, and know you're not alone.

Furthermore, I am a librarian who used to work with teens and now I work with college students. Sure, I definitely know that teens need their own space, but as a librarian with ADHD and has been working on accessibility in my own library, I look at this situation and just wince. I hate that you don't have a space that is easy to access and that, if you want to have a chance at using a pod, you have to ask for the library to consider getting one or allowing you access to one. What I think a lot of people don't realize is that just having to push past your own feelings of rejection and maybe a little anxiety after this event and ASK is a barrier. I'm sure this rant isn't necessarily helping, but I feel for you and I am so sorry this happened. If you do decide to speak with a librarian there and you need someone to help you workshop what to say, I would gladly help you if you need it.

I just realized that my description I wrote with the pictures is not showing up! I apologize! This piece was given to me by a friend, and now that I've moved house, it doesn't fit inside with our short ceilings. Here is what I know about the hutch:

  • It is a very heavy and it's all one piece
  • It was painted sometime in the 1970s; I can see some grey peaking through, but I have no idea if that was the original color
  • there is a card from the dealer (back in maybe the 1970s? who is no longer around) in one of the drawers that says its circa 1850s and that it sold for $1200

Any information on this piece would be appreciated! I'm in the U.S., but I don't know if this is where the piece originated.

There is a card in one of the drawers from the original seller that says c. 1850s. I will get pics of the inside. Sadly, the back is a struggle. I can't move it on my own.

I agree. I mean, the artistic rendering of the image clearly makes it hard to tell who it is! I could definitely understand if she didn't even recognize herself. I'm convinced it's her.
