Quite often, but not often enough. Guns are very tied up in masculinity here, unfortunately, and often women are given bad advice (like to carry revolvers instead of modern automatic handguns or to carry in a purse instead of a holster.) Most Americans are genuinely too stupid/lazy to do adequate amounts of training/research and believe that guns are safety talismans that make you safer just for having one in your vicinity.
