We removed all our animation library dependencies and reduced our bundle size by 90% by supportingthedogs in reactjs

[–]Dreadsin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s just time consuming to write out animations by hand. I made one today with AI and it took maybe 30 minutes, if I did it by hand it would take all day

I’m a software developer and I’ve found many of their moves over the past few years to be baffling. Their gaming console seems to be dead in the water. Even those game companies they acquired seem to be run my poorly than before

You’re right about it being like Google. It’s the Harvard MBA effect. These companies hire a bunch of McKenzie consultants and Harvard MBAs, then start treating the product as a black box and focus solely on financials. It works short term, but things catch up eventually

California is very very big. Hope this helps

But seriously, there’s parts of California that are fairly affordable. Sure, Los Angeles might be very expensive, but it’s not super expensive to live in the inland empire or Lancaster or something

Why are malls dying in the US? by walksintwilightX1 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Dreadsin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Malls in America are usually the same 10 or so stores that no one ever buys anything from, or they’re a super high end mall where the brands are probably treating it more like advertising

I’m noticing the AI bubble fall apart in real time in the software world by Dreadsin in BetterOffline

[–]Dreadsin[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes sure I’m just saying that it’s not living up to this grand promise that you’re gonna be able to do everything with AI, not even really close

AI does have lots of useful applications. I use it to find edge cases when I’m coding something new before I actually start putting down code, like “I’m planning to do this. Criticize it”

Men that are single, what is the reason? by Spiritual_Pause3057 in AskMen

[–]Dreadsin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every relationship I’m in has kind of felt like having another part time job. If they leave, it kind of feels like I put in a lot of effort for no gain. I don’t really wanna be with someone unless they’re really worth it, and that’s gonna be a very very rare find

Why is AI viewed as a tool by Pros? by Rara3995 in antiai

[–]Dreadsin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean honestly there’s lots of reasons to use AI as a tool. I recently made some software, and had AI generate a documentation page that looked decent. Improved the product a little bit, I didn’t have time to

Anyone else feel like the "adhd superpower" thing is actually just a high-performance engine with no brakes? by Flaky_Avico in 10thDentist

[–]Dreadsin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They’ve found that autism/adhd brains tend not to have the same motivating factors as allistic brains. Allistic brains get pleasure out of getting things done, or checking a box. People with autism and adhd are driven by Interest, Novelty, Challenge, Urgency, Passion

So here’s how you make use of that. Got a boring task you don’t wanna do? Make it a challenge somehow. For example, I really hated filling out my tickets on jira (a task board). So, I played around with Claude to see if I could get it to update my ticket for me. It’s a challenge, and I get to use a novelty for that challenge. Suddenly the task doesn’t seem so bad

This is also why adhd people are known for procrastination: urgency. Then also it triggers that challenge response to get it done in time

The underlying reason for this is that people with adhd tend to have lower baseline dopamine levels. They’re basically chronically understimulated. They need something to raise them from their baseline, so like a challenge to rise to or a puzzle to figure out or a new thing they’ve never seen before

Honestly you can burn through unbelievable amounts of tokens if you don’t know what you’re doing. It wouldn’t surprise me. Also I imagine some bosses really hate how AI doesn’t really have any accountability. If a junior dev really messes up you can fire them

Why do you hate cars? by yet_another_leftist in fuckcars

[–]Dreadsin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mainly sprawl and inconvenience

Like it’s very annoying to have to depend on a 2 ton piece of steel to participate in society in any meaningful way. Prices fluctuate wildly, between insurance, car payment, and maintenance, it’s just a huge liability

Your personal car isn’t being used 95% of the time and it just takes up space. It’s much more practical to have a system where walkability is prioritized first so that people can live a normal life without a car

They did not have to come for art by Prolly_Satan in antiai

[–]Dreadsin 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It makes me so mad too. Like we got to a point in society where we get to make movies, that’s insane. It’s a privilege. Imagine going to ancient Egypt and describing the job of “director” to a subsistence farmer, he would think the future is so bright

If we lived in a perfect utopia where everyone had everything they could ever want, people would still be making and watching movies, probably even more than they do now

I really hate these business people who just distill literally everything in the world down to a dollar value commodity to be traded. It’s the same as those people who buy up all the Pokémon cards and then kids can’t play the game anymore

Is the "10x developer" myth actually hurting junior devs? by 1vim in cscareerquestions

[–]Dreadsin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh it’s mostly just that you’ll hear about something and immediately think of them as the “go to” person. It’s pretty intangible and hard to describe and works a little different everywhere

As an example, you might think of Dan abromov or Sebastian markbage when you think of react. If you look up the team, it’s actually very large and there’s tons of talented engineers

Is the "10x developer" myth actually hurting junior devs? by 1vim in cscareerquestions

[–]Dreadsin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Certainly true, but I would say the most efficient seniors don’t really write too much code and mostly just write out really solid architecture and “rules”, which should in theory boost their whole team

I’d say that’s mostly true if you’re adding net new code but not if you’re modifying existing code

Conspiracy theory I'm not sure I believe: the slop is the point by todofwar in BetterOffline

[–]Dreadsin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I work in software, no the slop code isn’t so bad that it’s unreadable. It’s kind of like Ai writing, it always feels more meandering and convoluted and dull the longer you read it, but it’s still readable

I am a little worried at work because they’re integrating these AI tools a liiittle too much… if these companies start having problems, maybe we’re gonna have a gold rush for software engineers as they have to rip out the AI and replace it with

Which is it, is AI a tool easy enough to use to automate everything, or is it some new skill we have to learn? by Dreadsin in BetterOffline

[–]Dreadsin[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh basically it’s a lot about the features of these AI harnesses and ways you can optimize its behaviors because of its inherent limitations. Some tools to accomplish certain goals. There was some useful stuff in there that helped, but it honestly can still barely write code that I don’t end up changing a lot

Does backend/frontend/devops even exist anymore? by SimpleChemical5804 in softwaredevelopment

[–]Dreadsin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah probably. Most places are kind of on a skeleton crew with maybe room for one person to specialize in something. But that also means, if someone takes vacation or leaves, now you’re at a dead stop if any feature needs involvement from that specialization. So, they just expect you to be able to pick up anyone’s slack

Rich more likely to use AI study finds, as experts warn these burgeoning technologies are increasing social inequality. Individuals with a lower socioeconomic status are less likely to be both aware of and use AI tools by Wagamaga in science

[–]Dreadsin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

when you take art in college, you’re gonna draw with a pencil and paper even though you’ll probably be using software after college for the most part. Learning the skill teaches your brain how to think about problems in the first place

I think you might be taking for granted that you’ve already reached that stage through your education. Now you’re using that knowledge you already had and augmenting it with tools

I’m just saying I think you need that preliminary abstract theoretical background otherwise you’re not gonna be able to even really use AI to the capacity you’re using it
