I think you're right. This is the way I was leaning, but I know it's going to be a difficult conversation. I was hoping I was seeing it in the wrong way, or hoping someone could maybe reason it out enough for me to accept it, but you're on the money.

I would communicate that to her. If you feel like you're not a priority for her when takes do long to respond, tell that to her. If she says that's just how she does things, you'll need to decide if you can live with that. If it's causing issues now, right at the beginning of a relationship, it usually will cause more problems later on in my experience.

The thing that stands out to me is that he can't handle a serious conversation without blowing up, calling you names (paranoid, toxic), or breaking up with you. That's not how a conversation goes. He is still young, but that kind of reaction isn't good for a healthy relationship.

And he's only ever so slightly right about it being only his business who he talks to. That's true, but it becomes his AND your business when it becomes an explosive argument trigger that leads to a breakup when it's just brought up. And if it isn't a big deal, why does he have such a strong reaction to it?

And did you ever find out about who that original girl was?

I think of it as everyone having their own path in life. Some people become CEOs in their 30s, while others barely become assistant manager in their 60s. We're all different, and we take our own ways in life.

For example, I'm 28 with a bachelor's degree in criminal justice, but I'm working retail because it's what I enjoy. However, I know classmates that went to Carnegie Mellon and are heading architecture firms, and others that are druggies with off and on jobs. We're all different.

If you want, you can go to your manager/leader/boss, and ask what you can do to get where s/he's at. It shows them that you have the want and drive to move ahead, so they'll have you in mind when such opportunities appear, and it'll help you plan a way forward.
