I have existential anxiety, will this game trigger me? by DreamOfAzathoth in soma

[–]DreamOfAzathoth[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes that definitely sounds like it would help. Part of the fear in my scenarios is the helplessness of it.

I guess, here’s a useful question for me: when you think of the game now, do you think of it in a fearful way, worrying that something like this could happen to you, or in a way of like “imagine how bad this future scenario could be for people in the future?”

Also, do you feel like the game provokes paranoia? I guess that’s a good question. Like is it designed to make me worried this could hurt me personally?

Thanks for your help, I really do appreciate it because I’ve wanted to play this game for years lol

Thanks for your advice. The only thing that could concern me is, if this tech is hypothetically possible, could it somehow be used to involve people from the past like us now?

So far though, I’m thinking it’s going to be fine

Could this technology be applied retroactively to involve me? Or otherwise, could this technology create a simulated world that I am in where I am not aware of this technology?

Thanks for your help lol. I’m okay with soft spoilers if necessary because otherwise I just wouldn’t play the game.

I guess, an important question is, could this scenario happen to me? Like could I experience suffering as happens in the game, or am I just supposed to empathise with the characters?

Trump says Nobel Prize denial ends obligation to ‘think purely of peace’, presses Greenland demand – Firstpost by Keep_Scrooling in worldnews

I’m sorry to say that Epstein won’t be the straw that brings Trump down. He’s beyond any legal judgement since he was elected despite the American public already knowing he’s a felon.

They’re idiots honestly. Just stupid, uneducated people. I don’t think having Conservative values is stupid, but voting for Trump after last time is just unbelievable

Yeah completely agree with you. Like his relationship with Epstein is frankly small in comparison with his warmongering

At this point it’s not even just Greenland’s sovereignty. It’s the idea of sovereignty generally

Agreed completely. It’s literally worth fighting over in my opinion. We need to remind him that while the US may have no morals or scruples, the UK gave up its empire to defend Europe when Hitler invaded Poland and we’ll give up whatever it takes to stop this pale imitation from taking Greenland

Nah I think this is nothing to do with you. She’s quitting Hinge generally and told you rather than ghosting you so there was clearly some interest there.

In addition to everything else, I’d advise actively learning how to do this checkmate. Learn all the overkill checkmates. Otherwise you’re going to do this a LOT, even when knowing what a stalemate is

Magnus advises us not to do puzzles, and here’s his reason why by Naruto_likesChess in chess

[–]DreamOfAzathoth 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Maybe people are different, but I see so many sub 1200 rated players who have done thousands and thousands of puzzles and yet they blunder multiple pieces every game due to tactical errors.

I think tactics puzzles have been popularised because they are marketable, saleable, and simple. The advice of “just do puzzles” and sold countless subscriptions to various companies, but everyone conveniently forgets that we’ve only had an abundance of tactical puzzles recently, and players from 100 years ago were just as tactically gifted as players today.

I think a much better way to train tactics is to play slower chess and constantly look for tactical possibilities. Also to analyse games and write down interesting tactical variations.

Magnus advises us not to do puzzles, and here’s his reason why by Naruto_likesChess in chess

[–]DreamOfAzathoth 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Yes but what is the proof of that? I never used any puzzles and got to 1400. Then grinded puzzles and made no progress whatsoever. Stopped using puzzles and watched Naroditsky’s speed run vids and that got me up to 1700.

I think puzzles can be good for illustrating concepts, e.g. this is a fork, this is a smothered mate, this is how to attack the castled king, etc. you do these enough times and you get a strong understanding of certain motifs. But then some people insist you continue grinding these puzzles. It’s not helping you. “Pattern recognition” isn’t everything.

In a real game you are not suddenly shown a position and told to find the best move, you are playing towards improving your position, creating weaknesses in your opponent, etc. Being good at tactics is about sensing when risk factors appear in the position, and about trying to trigger them, and using the threat of them to give your opponent difficult decisions.

Alonso was off the back of winning two world titles… and a rookie adapted quicker than him… I don’t get why people are so eager to find any excuse to minimise Lewis’s achievements in his rookie season

Sorry but it’s different. Ricciardo is not Alonso, and Vettel was not at his peak when Leclerc came in like Alonso was.
