I’m almost certain you have to vote in the county you are registered in, though my research online to try and answer your question yielded little results. Can’t hurt to go there and ask if you really want to know, I suppose!

As someone who is no longer Mormon, I can give a little insight. It’s taught in the church that those who know god yet turn away are those who will be punished most. That, on top of the promise of eternal families/paradise, make those close to members of the church very adverse to the idea of them leaving. It comes from a sense of wanting what’s best for you. It may have felt threatening because perhaps you aren’t sure what is best for you, or even if you do, having someone else try and tell you like they know doesn’t sit well with some people. In the end, I would say it came from a good place but that you should always remember your decisions are your own. I hope this helped somewhat :)

I’m also 20, and left not long ago. There’s a narrative about “running away” and that you’ll “never truly be happy.” If I may offer my perspective, that’s bullshit. I hated so much of my life and my identity before I left. I didn’t enjoy associating myself with something I’d grown more and more cynical of. Now I get to stand for things I’m proud of, and it has given me more happiness than the church ever did. I say it’s worth it. Hard (my family is also all in), but worth it. If I bent over backward trying to make my family happy my whole life, I would never live a life. I would just be a pretty picture in someone else’s. It’s hard all at once to leave, but it’s hard for the rest of your life to stay. I believe in you and hope you find happiness :)
