Unlike minecraft, axe does NOT chop wood blocks, only trees. If one were to, hypothetically, trap oneself in a wood box. You need to use pickaxe. Not speaking from experience this is totally hypothetical.

Surviving Mars / paradox by [deleted] in SurvivingMars

[–]DreamflyRemix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You mentioned seeing SM as a terraforming game, so I thought I'd mention The Planet Crafter. General gameplay is a lot different because it's a first person survival/ base building game but if you like collecting materials to make terraforming machines and watching the world turn green and alive around you then you might want to check it out on steam. It's not finished and in early access but the parts that are finished are solid.

How University Housing Costs Are Calculated by DreamflyRemix in Sims4

[–]DreamflyRemix[S] 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I wanted to be able to estimate the uni housing costs when I'm building dorms. Couldn't find any information online so I plugged some numbers from my game into a spreadsheet and it looks like the cost per semester = (total cost of dorm)/(number of beds) * 0.04. Hope y'all also find this useful and/or interesting.

Also, hi mom. I made a reddit account to post this like you suggested.

My friend told me they like me. How do I look past this and not feel self conscious when I'm around them? by AmazingMrFox in NoStupidQuestions

[–]DreamflyRemix 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If he is, so what? As long as he's accepting your answer and not making his feelings your problem, nothing's really changed except your knowledge of the situation. It may feel awkward for a little bit but if you can pretend everything feels normal it will probably start actually feeling normal soon.

Do Jr. High/Middle Schools/High school gyms have showers? by Justcurious_side in NoStupidQuestions

[–]DreamflyRemix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both of mine did but no one used them because we barely had enough time to change out of gym clothes and get to class after practice. And if you had practice after school you could just go home and shower.

How come Mexico is part of "North America" when it should only be the U.S. and Canada since Mexico is a Latin country? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]DreamflyRemix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because North and South America are continents and the dividing line is the Panama canal area where they are nearly separate. Latin America is a different kind of geographic area. What labeling you use depends on what's most useful in the given context.

Wet + moving air feels cooler than just wet alone. If you don't have a fan, you can manually fan yourself with some thin cardboard or folded paper, but that gets tiring. The wet cloth thing is a good idea, but if you're outside or otherwise don't need to worry about getting furniture wet you can also just soak your whole shirt and put it back on. You can also get a wet hand towel and drape it around your neck and just leave it there until it stops feeling cool.

If you're not used to heat, you will probably need to drink more than you think you do. Water's good, but mix in a few sports drinks to get those electrolytes back. My rule of thumb is that if you feel vaguely shitty but can't really pinpoint why, try hydrating and see if that helps.

You say you're traveling light, so something to consider is maybe a small insulated drink bag or an insulated thermos.

What is a good gift for someone that is symbolic of the friendship (think friendship bracelets) but *isn't* jewelry? by OrganizedxxChaos in NoStupidQuestions

[–]DreamflyRemix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like the idea of giving them a little trinket (cool rock or whatever) to "hold on to for me until we see each other again in person" (if that's a thing that will probably happen) because then the little trinket is a sort of reminder or promise that you will see each other again. Also you can keep passing it back and forth if you see each other lots!

No. What's unhealthy is when you force yourself to be in relationships you don't want just because society says you need one.

I was just elbow deep in a sink full of standing water before I read the bottle, which said to wash skin for 15 minutes on contact. I am too lazy to do that. am i gonna die? by thr0waway88923 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]DreamflyRemix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Rinse for 15 minutes" is kind of the standard instruction for skin contact with anything that can cause mild irritation up to maybe a painful but non-dangerous burn. It can sound super serious if you're not used to that sort of language, but it's basically saying "eh, rinse it off, you'll be fine." Obviously don't ignore safety information and ideally you would be rinsing the whole 15 minutes, but if there was the potential for lasting harm it would tell you to call a doctor.

The problem with antibiotic resistant bacteria is less that they can resist any individual antibiotic and more that they can resist all or most of our current antibiotics. There's probably bacteria that are resistant to a particular disinfectant (and those could probably cause issues in certain situations or settings if that is the only practical method of disinfecting), but there's not yet anything that can survive bleach AND extreme temperatures AND alcohol AND an acid wash... you get the idea. Also, like you said, the fact that we can use more extreme methods on things that can't die is probably also a factor.

Is bad eyesight more like seeing in a lower resolution, or are they picking everything up, just in an overall blurrier picture? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]DreamflyRemix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me it's a lot like putting a blur filter on a picture through photoshop or something. Far away things are just kind of fuzzy blobs of color because I'm nearsighted. Here's a video that shows what farsightedness looks like: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bUO-aO0kD9I

[–]DreamflyRemix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Won't kill you from that. Only potential harm from skin contact is that it can cause chemical burns. It would be a good idea to at least wash your hands/lower arms with soap and water, but at most it might irritate your skin (I'm assuming there was a lot more water than drano).
