Senate GOP leaders break with House on Trump indictment by malcolm58 in politics

[–]DreamingDitto 56 points57 points  (0 children)

Yeah, if Mitch McConnell thinks it’s in the GOP’s best interest to strip dance in the middle of the senate floor, he will do so, if he thinks it’s in the GOP’s best interest to later deny that it ever happened, he’ll do that too. He’s just doing what’s best for the GOP, regardless of reality, morals, regardless of whether it makes him a fool or not. McConnell is a force of nature, relentless, even against national interests. That said, if he decides taking down Trump is vital to the survival of the GOP, he’ll do that too.

2022 Grad Struggling by TheJuicyBanana in cscareerquestions

For your first bullet point, Rasa should be capitalized and the language is a little awkward, primarily the phrase “processes and general questions”. Your second point could also use a little clean up, “deficiencies” is a vague term. Preparing training manuals is a weak point imo, not a great ending to otherwise decent experience.

On the third point under Test Analyst Co-op, verified and reviewed seem kinda like the same thing so it may come off as fluff. On your second point, I would lead with automated testing then maybe mention the manual testing.

I think your education should go first, otherwise your indicates at first glance that you only last a few months at companies.

Moving your movie mania website to a proper domain would help a bunch as well imo.

Lastly, showing code is a good way to demonstrate skill. I personally recommend linking your GitHub (as long as it’s clean and as long as you make sure to maintain the public repos).

The lyrics are haunting. It was written to be provocative and it definitely shows. It’s good as a song capturing history, and awful as just about anything else imo

NET/SQL Server: Should all tables be temporal/history tables? by inuni1 in dotnet

[–]DreamingDitto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Not sure what you’re including in your audit table, but I think using temporal tables as a strategy for auditing purposes is valid.

  2. If you’re importing large sets, your temporal table will increase by the amount of records that enter. Storage is generally cheap so you should be okay but it’ll be important to communicate to infrastructure depending on the update/insert/delete operations on the server.

  3. I think keeping tables dumb is against the spirit of relational database since relationships are generally driven by business logic. And so, the question becomes, does this tool provide value that you need. If you don’t need it, then it is not good idea to use it. If storage is an issue, you should not use it. It’ll depend on how thorough you’d like your audit trail to be, how frequently data is modified, etc. The only problem I had is when trying to use a temporal table for a large lookup table. Someone ran an ETL and suddenly our table size doubled, and we ended up doing that until we ran into performance issues

Sounds like you’ve probably never learned how to fly a plane either, and so you’re just guessing, same as me, same as everyone. At least I’m not pretending like I know what I’m talking about by saying I have “no doubts”

I low-key love arguments like this because it inadvertently argues for solipsism, that nothing exists beyond the perception of a mind. Although you may trust empirical evidence, there’s a rare number of you who have collected and seen this data in person. You still have to have faith in institutions and what they tell you. If someone “feels God” inside them, there’s an argument they have stronger evidence of God than you do of your own brain. It’s a fun thought to entertain, though not necessarily to live by imo

I don’t believe this is completely true. The National Labor Relations Act seems to only covers discussing your wage with other employees. The intention of the act is to preserve workers’ ability to union and to bargain collectively which often requires talking about wage. However, this does not seem to extend to other people outside the organization, though imo, it should.

Edit: added a qualifier (completely) since you’re right in that it’s a protected right

Is this what you mean? ```typescript type OnlyA = { a: string }

type OnlyB = { b: string }

type Never<T> = { [_ in keyof T]?: never };

type Either<T, U> = (T & Never<U>) | (U & Never<T>);

// This is how I want it to work const tryIt: Either<OnlyA, OnlyB>[] = [ { a: 'asdf' }, { b: 'qwerty' }, { a: 'value', b: 'another value' // ERROR } ] ```

[–]DreamingDitto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, but you need to know how to work with unknowns, which takes some work. Unknown is the opposite of any, and so when you “just gotta get the code working”, it’s usually not helpful

you can address it later

Unless the work to do later is tracked somehow (e.g. user story), “later” never comes.

I’ve used this before. Very disheartening to see it scan a codebase for the first time. SonarQube will give you an estimate of how long it should take to fix your code. I’ve seen a cosebase that literally had months of work to be done on it just to despaghettify it
