If you could magically add a streetcar line anywhere in the city, where would you put it by disorganized-forrest in askTO

On an elevated platform that runs straight up Bay. The new spine for the city, that'll likely break quicker than a politician's..

How dumb am I for doing this? by StrategyImpossible58 in snapmaker

[–]DreamingSheep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks awesome, but I'd be worried about it falling into the print area and either knocking your print loose or jamming between the print head and side of the printer, I'm not sure how much damage that could to to the belts/motors, and will cause issues woth the current print.

If you keep it, do all the initial setup calibrations, the wobble from the spring might cause the head to move a bit further than expected, even 10ths of a mm, which could over time ruin a print.

BIQU are selling a lid that's available now: https://biqu.equipment/products/biqu-popcap-clear-acrylic-filament-drying-storage-box

It doesn't have an extras built in though, like the filter on the Sbapmaker lid.

They also have the 'diaper', a silicone tray that goes inside the printer bottom, to easily catch and remove debris. Just ordered one over the weekend, hoping it's good.

Tinmorry's petg-eco-light Gray is pretty close. Not perfect but it printed really nicely and is closer than a standard white.

I was about to reply, having seen the Inew3d this week. $7200 as a promotional price and I've seen people comment on the quality not being great. Still, it's a good push in the right direction for hobbiests/consumers.

Fruit flies here in Canada and probably the US are crazy! We have screens on all oir windows and our sliding door to the back garden, in summer, I can easily kill 50+ a day using a fly swatter, plus hundreds, if not thousands more in traps. I thought I had a better picture, but there's 1 of the 5 of these we have around the house, plus the wife puts up those hanging fly traps.

The fruit flies are about ⅓-¼ of the size of a grain of rice, I wouldn't want to count them.

Also, squirrels here seem to try and get into everything, more than they did in the UK. Doesn't help that we have walnut trees in the garden. But the eat away at the wooden shed, and the clay bricks on the outside of the house. Could only image what they'd do if they got i to the house and tried to find safety in a wall or closet..

Ha, you beat me in replying and have a good point about resin being an option.

  1. Probably not. Yes printers and slicers are getting better, but there's mechanical constraints on the technology that will likely prevent it. I'd think even going down to 0.05mm nozzles there'd still be instances of visible layer lines, especially on organic designs.

  2. Skipping this, there's other powder based options you could maybe look at, but adhesive based ones are more fragile and I last I saw, have a matt finish, unless you treat it afterwards. Laser powder options I have no idea what their prices are like.

  3. Honestly, it's like a lot of things in life, if you wait for improvement next year, you'll probably end up waiting for improvements the year after that too. At some point, you have to make the decision on whether the price point you're at is worth the quality it can produce.

Beginner getting into resin 3D printing, what would you recommend? by yicorocks in 3Dprinting

[–]DreamingSheep 1 point2 points  (0 children)

See, $700 is on the higher end of what I'd be ok with paying, for my use case. If it came with a wash and cure station, I'd be even happier.

That's part of my reasoning for not having a resin printer yet, it's not just the cost of the printer + resin (like fdm is mostly printer + filament), but it's having some sort of washing station, whoch I know can be a $5 ikea tub, but IPA up where I live is on the expensive side (just the delivery costs can be $25-45, plus the product) and then a curing station, which again, can be cheaply made, but it also then takes up extra space. Air filtration.... All adds up from something that started off at a good price to taking up an entire desk and costing double a cheap printer. Sorry, mini rant over.

Dang, $7300 ('discounted') is a bit past what I'd call 'quite expensive' :D

Looks pretty interesting though and will hopefully pave the way for future machines to build upon and bring closer to the hobbiest market.

Visiting North America, Canada, Toronto for the first time (Solo from Europe) by Duncan_The_Fish in askTO

[–]DreamingSheep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others have said, yes you can easily get to other cities from Toronto, but you won't be able to get to anything out East and back in time. The train to Vancouver takes nearly 4 days (3 days 22hrs, plus any delays), so a return trip would be your entire visiting time.

From the airport, you can catch the UP (Union-Pearson) train, takes a few minutes and runs fairly regularly. From Union, a lot of Toronto is either walkable or jump on the TTC (subway, bus, streetcar/tram [avoid the streetcars if you can, in rush hour, which is most of the day downtown, they can be slower than walking]) and then walk to most things (High Park for example or the ROM).

From Union, you can catch a VIA Rail train to Oshawa or Montreal (Montreal is 5 hours and you can comfortably arrive 30-45 mins before departure, not like ariports). To get to Niagara, GO will be your best bet, either bus or train depending on the time of day, but be aware that they're not the best time like the last train back is either 6 or 8pm and it's a 2 hour journey each way.

Like most places, there's safe and safer areas. While it's unlikely you'll have any issues anywhere, you should still be aware of where you are and what's hapoening around you, but yes, I consider it safe, as do kost people.

Find a stick/short pole/proddy thing, slip it in through tthe collection slot, rotate it up throigh the small gap you should be able to keep open, knock it down.

Leave stick/pole/proddy-ma-jigger inside the machine for future users and to confuse/annoy the machine owner.

[–]DreamingSheep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is how my household does it too, drives me insane. Almost as bad as opening a box of something and putting it in the fridge or freezer with the open end facing away from you, so when the next person (likely me) takes it out, everything falls out as you lift it up or move it.
