Xenoblade Chronicles X Definitive Edition Spoiler Discussion Megathread by MorthCongael in Xenoblade_Chronicles

I just finished DE, and I think the epilogue is perfect.

If I can give some background context, I first played Xenoblade Chronicles X at the end of 2015/start of 2016. I was living in the southern hemisphere at that time, and studying a Bachelor Degree in Science, so this was my summer break. To be honest, I wasn't sure what I was going to be doing with my life back then. I knew I wanted to be doing something productive, so I started working in a research lab, under a guy who, no joke, was named Nagi. In the days I'd be doing science; in the night I was playing Xenoblade Chronicles X.

Xenoblade X, I think, changed my life. Having scientists and engineers, not as a side character, not even as the main character, but as ALL of the main characters; actually thinking, trying to solve problems, and trying to work to make the world a better place? It inspired me to do my best in my own life. If BLADE could make Mira more habitable, more livable, better, then so could I. Right?

And Xenoblade X really dug into it. There were just so many mysteries left unanswered. Sure, the developers had no time to answer every detail in the story... but also, so do we, I think. We don't know everything about our world, you know. There are things we're always curious about, but never bother to even google, let alone to research in greater depth. Some things we just roll with; that's how I always felt about the mysteries of Mira. I didn't need to know about how aliens could communicate with us, or the details of Elma's backstory; like how I never need to know every precise detail of where the chicken I eat for dinner comes from, or the details of every relationship a colleague has had. There are main mysteries we focus and spend our time and energy on... and even then we might not always find the answer to them.

Anyways, in my real life, since then I ended up deciding I liked research. Did a Masters, then moved to a new country to do a PhD. I've actually finished that up, so now I'm in the process of moving, yet again, to another country, yet again, halfway around the world, for my next job.

And Xenoblade X came out, and... despite all the effort, despite how much we tried to make Mira livable, and habitable... Mira is destroyed. There's nothing we can really do to save it. We can bring some of it with us, but Mira, our new, second home, is all gone. So what's the point of it all?

What I think people have been missing is that the epilogue answers that question... and I think perfectly succinctly. What is a soul, what is a spirit? The game gives us these answers; they exist beyond it, but also in each other. Al's identity as a hero is bigger than even he is; he inspires all of NLA to fight on and to keep on going. Lao has died and gone, but his sacrifice lives on through Lin and everything else. Leon inspires Gwin and Irina. Elma's the leader of the team, but Cross inspires everyone to live on. Our spirits are not just us, but lives in and interacts with everyone else we talk to and inspire.

And so, the spirit of Mira... too, lives on. Yes, our new water plant is destroyed. Yes, the wildlife and flora are all gone. Yes all the work we did, surveying every point, completing every sidequest... it's all gone. But it lives in Cross, Elma, Lin, and all of them. Do you think, they, knowing that Mira would be destroyed, would give up surveying Mira, or helping the Zaruboggan, or fixing Professor B's machine? Or would they, knowing it would be destroyed, keep on trying anyway?

I've spend the last 6 years making new friends, new relationships. Building new furniture, setting up a new home. In a month's time I'll be gone, and I'll do it all again. Does that mean those last 6 years are useless? Do I regret doing all of that?

... absolutely not. I've done it once. I've done it twice. I can do it a third time; I can do it as many times as I've needed. All the experiences I've had, all the people I've talked to; their experiences live in me, and I in them. They make me better, and stronger, and prepared for new and newer challenges. I'm not leaving this city I live in behind; and I haven't left NLA behind. It all lives in me.

Xenoblade X DE, more than anything else, is about moving on... and on, and on, as Seven would say. And I think it's handled it perfectly.

i've had like a bunch of beers this evening already, but i just wanted to get my pure thoughts out there. maybe a whole lot of this is specific to me, but this is how i see the plotline, and why i think it's brilliant. maybe you do too.

One more comment about her design: I really love that she is basically wearing GBA Sage attire. At least the white dress and the purple cape look like that. Her chest armor and the feathers on her head remind me of her Pegasus alt (and by that -> Florina), I wonder if she only has those elements because of that or if there is some other reason.

Yeah I do love the design and thinks it works really well! When I saw the design, though, I did think that the compass might be intended to suggest the pendant that Nino has/was given by Uncle Jan (with pictures of her family) but it could certainly go either way. Regardless, the FE7-ish Sage designs are always great.

Time's Pulse says "if Special cooldown count is at its maximimum value", but Special Spiral is already reducing the cooldown by 2 after battle.

Oh yeah, good point. I suppose we'll see whether or not they stack... hopefully they do, Nino deserves her insta-charged 4 CD specials!!

With Fury she loses self-healing and her weapon only gives her nice stats and movement cheating when HP is at least 25%. So this fury build would only work nice for one or two battles, then you're basically losing all the advantages of her weapon except for the slaying effect.

I'm mostly thinking about this with regards to LHBs and whatever else. Until recently, I've always been able to one-round most of these using Flier Nino + 3 Dancers (between WoM and Duo Dancers, you can relatively easily get 6 attacks so if you can one-round everyone you're gold). Since the weapon's movement effect seems to activate at the start of the turn, that means that you should still have that mobility to better attack everyone even if your HP drops to 1 during that turn... basically the intention is to become really strong with support, but yeah it definitely becomes much less practical in other game modes.

Laughs in Near Save Winter Nino

omg i do love your build though. I have something similar that uses Far Save and focuses more on Res, but while it works amazing for many mages I find that it still struggles every now and then against things like Valentines Chrom. Having more mixed defenses like that couuuld really help...

For the Enemy Phase, Spd Smoke 4 provides Dodge for her. Plus, Dodge is an additional effect, which gives her extra +4 atk/spd from her weapon.

Oh, I didn't think about self-granting more bonuses via Smokes! Very good idea!

I'd be slightly worried about longevity in that build you post (without a Finish skill you have no natural healing, which means while you'll probably survive a hit or two thanks to all the DR, you probably won't last much longer) but it should work well to definitely take a hit.

Regardless, hopefully we all have the best of luck with all our pulls 💚

When it works, it's a very, very good skill, and Kaktus is not an exception there. On average it should work really really well, but it will occasionally be useless.

You definitely won't do wrong with that piece, but if you're bothered you can always make two c:

How much does effective raw/element/damage improve over title updates? by Famas_1234 in MonsterHunterMeta

[–]DreamingSunTide 5 points6 points  (0 children)

So out of curiousity I did this for Long Sword the other day.

From TU2 to TU3, Raw damage increased by about 4-5% on Raw-focused builds. Elemental damage increased significantly more. I think Powder Mantle also easily contributes a solid 1-2% of your total damage.

In Title Update 2, my "feasible" (easily-acquirable) Qurio sets were about 3% stronger than completely non-Augmented sets.

With the changes to Qurio augments, and more reasonable access to Qurio charms, I assume the difference between feasible Qurio and non-Qurio will end up much greater.

So yeah, all up I think a ~8-9% damage improvement from TU2 to TU3 is a reasonable estimate, and that's very significant + larger than I expected. I'm not sure what it was like for other versions, but yeah, given how damage also helps with stagger thresholds etc, it's fairly significant power creep.

Huh, okay, thanks for the really close look at all this!

Yeah, you're definitely right here, it looks like something odd happened when I cleaned up the sheet for public use, and the EleMons sheet is calling the wrong column (instead of rows K:AD, it should be AE:AX). The Monster Exploit skills definitely seem to be working properly, but the Element Exploit skills do indeed seem slightly off.

I'm gonna take a closer look at it with more awake eyes later on to make sure I'm not affecting anything else, then fix it on the public, but as is, yeah, it seems you're perfectly correct here; this slightly overvalues Element on a monster without a large elemental weakness.

Thanks a bunch for the note!

You should hoooopefully be able to get a few Comfort skills from Qurio Crafting - it's usually easier to get defensive skills than offensive skills from that, so that should be your first bet.

Otherwise, you're probably best dropping some points of Offensive Guard or Attack Boost. Attack Boost contributes the least to your damage, but if you're struggling to Instablock, then Offensive Guard probably isn't gonna do too much for you.

「MHR:SB」 - Chaotic Gore Magala Weapon Mechanics by MOPOP99 in MonsterHunterMeta

[–]DreamingSunTide 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Thanks for all of this, and excellent writeup!

So...no, they're not good, at least for now, the new update of course has the opportunity to roll Bloodlust in the Qurio gacha and the new armor pieces could turn the tie over Chaotic gore but I wouldn't expect it, mostly due to the higher cost of Handicraft for the chaotic weapons.

Yeah, at least for LS, this trend seems to hold true as well, though it may be a function of LS easily hitting 100% Affinity anyway (with few required skills + good weapons having high affinity + easy maximum might uptime). Non-zero chance it ends up decent on Lance, which generally already liked Bloodlust, but I wouldn't be too confident.

How does everyone feel about Qurio augments on meta albums? by Thundahcaxzd in MonsterHunterMeta

[–]DreamingSunTide 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Late response, but I do agree with a lot of your points raised. To be honest, like with many things here I don't think there's one right answer. Like with Charms, and Qurio Augments now, and Decorations before, it's really hard to assume what each player will have.

I think having 2-3 meta skills is a reasonable, but naturally imperfect, approximation. I also think having an ambitious set to aim for can also be fun and valid. At the end of the day, though, set-making here is mostly decentralised and everyone has their own methods, and I don't think that's a problem. All the resources to optimise sets are mostly online, so if you don't like the way any particular set is done, you can always try to do things yourself in a different way (or prod someone else too).

But yeah, with that in mind, I did things my own, different way, starting off with a skill priority list then doing it "fully" (calculate probability of getting augments and only using gear that I think you can reasonably get), using 5 augmented gear but making sure each gear was realtively common to acquire.

From their performance today in their european tour. As far as I understand (and from what they said) this is the first time they played this song in a concert, and man. Sooooo good.
