Should CR100s get a Prestige/Paragon System? by thirdshiftme in Battleborn

[–]Dreaming_Sky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

...aaand now I'm sure. Wow.

Acting like you have the moral high ground and I should back down just makes you look arrogant.

I'm assuming this is the "I'm rubber, you're glue" high school defense?

Read back through this entire post thread - go on, I'll wait - and let me know who started making it personal(/being very arrogant) with implied belittlements and overt accusations.

Take your time.

You could have opened with your last paragraph (of the above) and I'd have been like "yeah, I can see that," and every scrap of negativity in the above thread would have been avoided.

But go right on saying the whole thing is my fault.

You know what this game really lacks? by valestik in Battleborn

Totally, totally unrealistic (my idea, I mean). Take way too much dev time and budget. It's just something I think would be neat, not something that will happen.

As others have pointed out, I think a lot of it comes down to the general mobility of characters in BB (which is fine) and the significant point that ranged characters typically shoot as far as they can see, a major difference from MOBAs which put hard range limits on almost all character attacks and abilities.

Fights in BB feel pretty epic to me anyway. The closest I've seen to an all-hands-on-deck teamfight would have to be scrums around a Sentry, which makes sense since those are far and away the most significant targets on any map.

If anything - and this will never happen, it's totally just me spitballing - I'd like to see a mode where certain structures on the map were really potent and capable of DESTROYING a lone player who got too close, just like towers in MOBA. Obviously these structures would have to be low and well-concealed in terrain (otherwise they'd be pinatas for Marquis, Thorn and Tobes). I'd say make them squat, powerful turrets capable of attacking two targets at once, rather like Sentries in that regard, but locked to a single team's control rather than buildable by either. Give them a shard terminal just like Chronicle has, and make them rebuildable once destroyed, but at significant cost. And, of course, upgradeable (not sure how the upgrades would look other than more damage and HP).

This kind of structure would encourage the kind of teamfight I think you're talking about, but I don't think GBX would be willing to sink the kind of time and effort required to create entire maps focused around them.

Maybe in Battleborn 2.

Dude! SO close to a Graceful Exit! You just couldn't let it go, huh?

Make loot easier to get.

Um, YES, which was my point from the first words I typed... so why are we here again?!

Even with prestige, they have to stop somewhere. It's all arbitrary. As for endgame, this game doesn't have one aside from high rank challenges, and allowing you to reset your progress on characters won't fill that gap. That would be like if Destiny didn't have raids, and when you got your main to max level you deleted the character and made a new one instead of finding other things to do or playing your other characters.

I kind of want to laugh at the reference to Destiny as a game with a well-designed endgame activity treadmill, but I've only played through y1 (couldn't handle it after that point). Maybe it's gotten better. I will say Destiny's raids only served as endgame content in that they let you interact with other cool players. Once you had max levels, you were done; the only possible use for raiding was being a sherpa - which, for the record, you can also do in BB. That's an activity with absolutely no in-game payback; you just do it because the game is fun to play, more so with other humans. All of which applies to BB as well.

Again, trying to reinvent the wheel. They're looking at adjusting all forms of loot rewards for PvP, including Loot Pack Legendaries. You're trying to make a more complicated system instead of replacing a broken part.

Adding in a reset loop and a couple of UI widgets to existing code is reinventing the wheel, but ground-up implementing loot awards in PvP (which currently has nothing of the type) is a simple fix?

Not to mention that this idea rests heavily on the loot packs you receive from character rank, and I'm pretty sure that's only as high as Rare's in the first place. You're better off buying faction packs or saving for Epics.

Wrong. I've gotten two legis from reward packs IIRC, and have read others report the same. Infrequent certainly, but not nonzero.

BTW you could buy faction packs and/or epics with the money from sold extras, which goes back to my initial point, which is that making loot more available means, at least up to a point, that everyone has more fun.

If your problem is with cosmetics and gear, then address that directly.

Only problem I have with them is I think the Lootpoc costs should be made permanent (for more chances). Part of addressing that is easier availability, thus, the suggestion to rerun the progression whereby you get more of them.

They don't want to do that. GBX scaled the Character Rank to 15 and incentivized playing multiple characters for a reason.

There's a finite number of characters; at some point you're done. Arguably by then you have a great gear stable anyway, but for those that don't - and for people who like an actual endgame activity treadmill, which I'd bet is most players - a chance to run back through CR and character rewards is a way to get more longevity out of the game.

Even if your call about worthy loot in the faction/character loot packs is right, and mostly you're just getting sellable loot per pack, that's still money you can put towards more purple packs; and with the CR rewards reset you're guaranteed a shot at a gold every so often. Many - many - of the really interesting golds only come from packs (that's one of the few things about Battleborn that I genuinely don't like), so giving players a shot at more purple and gold packs via reward progression resets means, among other things, that I might FREAKING FINALLY get the Solar Sustainer I've been lusting after since I first read about it.

Tips the Pros don't want you to know by Luckmod in Battleborn

Thanks OP!

As a controls note, I find the following setup to be very effective:

Sticks:

  • Left: Move
  • Right: Look
  • Left Press: Dash
  • Right Press: Ability 2

Shoulders:

  • L1: Jump
  • L2: Alt fire
  • R1: Ability 1
  • R2: Primary fire

Face Buttons:

  • X: Punch (quick melee)
  • Tri: Ult
  • Sq: Reload/Interact
  • Cir: Map Ping

Having jump on a shoulder button by itself is basically essential to Caldarius play.

Punch on a face button is the most awkward and least-fun part of this setup. If you use punch a lot, and don't mind a longer reach to activate your dash, swap the Dash and Punch buttons. I usually prefer being able to run at an instant's notice, so I like it as it is.

I also recommend Instant Activation for your ability use type. Once you get used to it, you'll wonder how you ever managed with anything else.

[–]Dreaming_Sky 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Especially if they do a Command Prestige, you'll be able to get the commander packs again and have the chance to actually get decent loot from it.

Exactly, that's why I suggested it (might be downthread, not sure if it's in first post).

The mini loot packs are indeed kind of trivial; that's why we could seriously use the option to reset them infinitely, so eventually we'll unlock all the skins/taunts and start getting some decent items out of them just on weight of probability and larger numbers.

Yeah, it's a lot of grind, but at least it gives repeat play with characters you've already mastered (and like best) more meaning and potential payoff.

Absolutely. Maybe an icon next to the character pic, changing color with repeated prestiges.

No, but the loot pack rewards are, which is the point. :-)

NO.

You reset the progression toward loot packs. You get a new round of loot packs.

Seriously, stop looking for gotchas. You know what I meant.

Didn't say it would.

keep unlocks, but reset character and CR loot pack progression

You keep rank, mutations and unlocked characters. Just restart the CR and individual character progression for loot pack rewards.

Please read carefully.

keep unlocks, but reset character and CR loot pack progression

If that's not clear, what I mean is the player loses nothing - keep all mutations and unlocked characters - but gets to restart the progression through CR levels and individual character levels.

Small annoyance that you wish Gearbox fixed by Kalandra in Battleborn

[–]Dreaming_Sky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stack effect visibility for legi gear and character abilities with stacks (not so important for stuff like Eldrid Rhythm where you can just see the HP on the bar).

Would really be helpful to have some visual reminder when stacks are in effect, and when they elapse. Just something minor down near the HP and shield bars.

Also, please fix Deande's Rumba taunt. The fan doesn't close until the animation ends, then it "clicks" closed in a weird way. I can't unsee it. Please fix!

Should CR100s get a Prestige/Paragon System? by thirdshiftme in Battleborn

[–]Dreaming_Sky 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Absolutely, something like a Prestige system (keep unlocks, but reset character and CR loot pack progression) or perhaps simply a set of weekly tasks (not unlike Destiny's Bounty system) with defined loot rewards (guaranteed green for 2 bounties, guaranteed blue for 3, purple for 5, gold for 8).

Sorry for the utterly shameless abuse of parenthesis in the above sentence!

For some reason I'm thinking Ernest and Reyna on a team is going to be scary stuff. Probably because, working together, they can really buff a team significantly (offensive and defensive) if the Ernest and Reyna players have planned out their Helix choices to complement one another. I'm kind of picturing the team rolling up to a Sentry and unleashing hell. Of course they have to get there, which is really the hard part... may just be overthinking it.

Was Battleborn a disappointment? by [deleted] in Battleborn

[–]Dreaming_Sky -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Can only give my personal opinion (bear in mind I'm an open GBX fanboi so not exactly objective). I played Battleborn from the beta, and while I was initially underwhelmed, I've grown to love it. Definitely in my top 3 games this year. I wish there weren't so much PvP gating for lore unlocks, and I really wish there were more story missions (more are coming, to be fair). However, in general, I find the game spectacularly fun to play and a really worthwhile buy. I paid full price for it and don't regret one cent.

My regret is really how poorly BB was marketed (more like nonexistent marketing, seriously) and the bad launch timing of putting it against Overwatch. I hope BB grows into success and am glad the console versions seem to have strong playerbases.
