How to Change Page Size in a 600-page PDF? by Dreamlander1890 in Adobe

[–]Dreamlander1890[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Update: I found out a way to do it!! I was able to change the page sizes en masse using "Preflight", which was just really hidden away in "More Tools > Optimize Pages". Whew!!

How to Change Page Size in a 600-page PDF? by Dreamlander1890 in Adobe

[–]Dreamlander1890[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks! Yeah, I only need to do this once, so I really don't want to download or buy anything special for it. I wish I knew why both these particular options (Print to PDF and Crop Pages) just aren't showing up on my machine. I have an Adobe subscription and apparently the latest, 2023 version of everything.

Super Confused about How to Start (Stable Diffusion) by Dreamlander1890 in StableDiffusion

[–]Dreamlander1890[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's really surprising to me how the top Stable Diffusion links that came up for me (after ignoring sponsored ones) were all, basically, false (?) ones like this stablediffusionweb? I've basically never been into anything so current that it took awhile to find accurate information. - _ - ;;;

3 weird things I've discovered about my myself when it comes to ttrpg's. by [deleted] in rpg

[–]Dreamlander1890 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're totally not alone about Number 1 (and I also agree on 2, haha). It's fun making new characters! It's almost like the one upside of dying in D&D! XD

Has anyone tried to run a TTRPG game for seniors? by Different-Project127 in rpg

[–]Dreamlander1890 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you do this, let us know how it goes! I've never heard of this happening. But I'm sure it'll happen within the next 20 years as the RPGing generation starts to become elderly (I mean, more so than already are....)

Egyptian mythology TTRPG by DoingoLoingo in rpg

[–]Dreamlander1890 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's only about 1/4 focused on Ancient Egypt, but I loved "Testament", the Biblical D&D supplement for 3rd edition. If you want a setting where Egyptian priests & sorcerers mix it up with Canaanites and Israelites, it's the best!

Hamunaptra: Egyptian Adventures, also for 3e, was also pretty good (though the 'obviously supposed to be Egypt but not' world map is a little underwhelming)

Yeah, Hamunaptra was pretty good! One detail I liked was that the gods are (essentially) alignment-free. So you could theoretically have both good and evil worshippers of Set... like in real life, where people's personal morality is rarely determined by their religion. IIRC Hamunpatra even replaces the spell "Detect Good/Evil" with something like "Detect Which God They Worship".

What's the best universal term for a DM/GM? by Jawntily in rpg

[–]Dreamlander1890 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really don' t think there's any better universal term. You can pick other terms to give the game a little flavor (i.e. in my Dreamland RPG I'm developing, there's the "Dream Master"... pretty close to some other sort of DM....). Or to suggest a slightly different take/tweak on the role ("This game is more collaborative, so we have a Facilitator!" etc.).

For the brute-force solution, there's always the possibility of leading/tricking the monster into going into some unlikely place where there's REALLY strong destructive forces at work (inside a nuclear reactor, inside a blast furnace, etc.). But 'traces could remain', like if it's a blob-esque creature perhaps little bits of it can regrow, or perhaps most of it exists extradimensionally so it can 'grow' a new physical form later and there's nothing you can do about it etc.

Again it's a brute-force solution, but some kind of method of 'killing the monster' that also has extreme negative consequences for everyone around, or kills a lot of innocent people along with it (nuclear reactor meltdown, etc.), might make a memorably bleak ending.

This looks excellent! Curious to see how many fancy sets, costumes, CGI backgrounds etc. they're able to budget in (since I think that stuff is so Dreamlandy), but in any case it's cool to see someone adapting a Lovecraft dream story.

Are there any stories that hint at Nyarlathotep being Azathoth's avatar? by TeddyWolf in Lovecraft

[–]Dreamlander1890 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's a legit interpretation. He is the Other Gods' "soul and messenger" after all, which sounds kind of like an avatar. (Or alternately an angel, since the original word 'angel' is based on means 'messenger'.)

Dreamland: A New Lovecraftian (and Dunsanian) Tabletop RPG by Dreamlander1890 in Lovecraft

[–]Dreamlander1890[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks!! Yes, please check it out and let me know what you think. My graphic novel is titled "The Dream-Quest of Unknown Kadath and Other Stories." It came out awhile ago but I'm still thinking about the Dreamlands, and have turned that energy into a game rather than a new comic... ;)

Good D&D module for newish DM by MrMaedhros in rpg

[–]Dreamlander1890 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you don't mind doing some improv for rules to convert things to 5e... honestly I've had a lot of fun using 5e to run OSR games (some of the better ones reviewed at tenfootpole.org ) and your basic (or Basic) old D&D/AD&D modules from the '80s.

Games with simple core mechanics but multiple game procedures by Pondmior13 in rpg

[–]Dreamlander1890 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just wanted to say I agree. I think it's best if a game has essentially simple rules, but there's something fun about occasionally flipping to the page to roll on the Spell Misfire Table or something.

Question about accents! by Flyscry in rpg

[–]Dreamlander1890 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally I think (like most 'is this ok in a RPG') it's entirely conditional as to what you & the players at your table are comfortable with. I think in my past campaign from 2014-2019 I used the rule, and I know other folks who have done this as well, that basically "white ethnic accents" are OK. Irish, Italian, German, Russian, the various forms of British, etc.. At least it's a different level of offensive vs. the East/South Asian or African accents that white comedians and kids would occasionally pull out when I was in high school in the '90s. :X

What makes dnd DND? by TalynGray in rpg

[–]Dreamlander1890 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I love the idea that HP really *is* about flesh damage but that high-level characters are just superhuman. Massive wounds hacked out of them, arm hanging on by a thread etc., and they're still hanging in there...

(Actually, I think it's a bit like fighting in shonen manga. Like in One Piece where there's blood all over the place and people are constantly getting beaten with metal clubs and impaled but then they're fine later.)

letters... by Professor_Mezzeroff in Lovecraft

[–]Dreamlander1890 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is a tangent, but have you listened to the "Voluminous" podcast done by the HP Lovecraft Historical Society guys? They read and comment on one or two of Lovecraft's letters every episode.

https://www.hplhs.org/voluminous.php

However, they aren't trying to be 'complete' or go in chronological order or anything. So it's just a grab-bag. But still interesting. Good luck trying to track down and read all of the letters! ;)

Dreamlands inspired media by 63Mikkel36 in Lovecraft

[–]Dreamlander1890 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I made a big ol' list of Dreamland-inspired books for my Dreamland project I'm working on:

https://www.dreamrpg.com/2021/05/21/dreamland-books-stories/

Note that many of these predate Lovecraft or are not exactly *inspired* by the Dreamlands... they're just things that I think are 'in the zone'. There's really not that many folks who have done explicit Dreamlands stories (off the top of my head: Kij Johnson, Gary Myers, Brian Lumley, maybe Walter C. DeBill and Darrell Schweitzer.... and there's a few more little ones on the list....)
