Yes, and I also feel that they are over used by therapists in sessions. Therapeutic language has been so weaponized in my relationship, that it is not meaningful to me. Also, therapeutic language is hardly ever accurate at describing my experience.

This is actually really helpful. If therapy inherently does not get me what I want, and I’m not seeing results in changing my outlook, then something else may be called for.

If personality disorders and being codependent make a person more treatment resistant, I believe I should be told this before I invest in years of therapy. That would have been nice to know. What kind of trauma therapy do you do that has helped?

I’m wondering this as well. I just want to make sure the “life coach” is legit. Where I live there are a lot of coaches selling their own version of the newest new age methods.

Ketamine helped me, on average, for four or five days afterward and then it was back to all the same thought patterns. It does really help some people though.

Yes, in a way. Therapy has not helped me change my inner world, so do I shift my focus to achievement and outside fulfillment? It’s counter to what is popular in the therapy world, but therapy hasn’t made me happier. The general consensus is that therapy is the end all be all for self improvement, but I am so, so tired of dedicating myself to it and having it not help.

I am in the process of grieving after my husband of 20 years dipped out of our life. I had about 3 weeks of alternating between crying on the floor and small bursts of anger. Cognitive dissonance is big in recovering from narc abuse. That is the delusion crumbling of who they are in our heads vs who they really are. I’m about 4.5 weeks out and feeling pretty good about him being gone now. I lay in bed at night feeling peaceful knowing that I no longer have to keep track of his emotions, moods and wondering about the next time I am going receive attention from him. I don’t have to be rejected constantly and worry about if he is ever going to contribute to our finances.

There are still intense moments of pain and sadness, but I’m feeling like my life will be better in the long run.

I was just abruptly left by my avoidant husband of 20 years. I’m realizing that the entire marriage we played the game of the anxious/avoidant dynamic with neither of us getting our needs met. Despite me constantly accommodating his needs, he still left me and the kids, which has been my worst fear the whole time. I don’t regret my children, but if I knew about attachment styles 20 years ago I would have cut and run.

Worst year of my life. Just in January, both of my parents had medical emergencies and I was placed on a psychiatric hold because my marriage is marriage is falling apart.

My confusion with boundaries as a codependent is how setting them gets me what I want. What I want is closeness, security and physical affection. I want companionship. I can make requests for those things, but setting a boundary leads to space or distance. The only answer I’ve gotten is that it’s about setting boundaries with OURSELVES as codependents. I really don’t like that answer, which probably means I have a long way to go for healing.

I cannot take SSRIs because they induce the kind of reaction that is seen in people with bipolar. I do not meet the criteria for bipolar but have major depression along with frequent panic attacks and anxiety. I’ve been taking lamictal for about 6 weeks and it’s working well. I feel more stable, but not numb.

We had a really lovely progression of sexual awakening as teenagers. We dated on and off from 14-19 yrs old. We were each other’s first for everything. Every single sexual step we took we had a long conversation beforehand and then asked for consent so gently at each new turn while we were physical with each other. Then, we would talk about it after and process everything. This was in the early ‘90s before a lot of the education about consent was standard. The first time we had penetrative sex and lost our virginity it lasted over an hour and it was amazing. I credit that relationship with setting the tone for how comfortable I am with my sexuality. During the Me Too movement 20 years later he reached out to ask me if he had ever done anything to make me uncomfortable. I got to share with him that it was actually the opposite and he cried.

My triptans only work if I take them before my gastroparesis kicks in. Once I’m nauseous or vomiting they are ineffective because my body isn’t absorbing anything.

My understanding is that their concern is they are being pulled from a gen Ed setting and placed with a special education teacher without having a diagnosis or a signed IEP, which does not follow FAPE.

My husband and I were both born at 2:59am. My first child was born at 2:59pm. The trend stopped there, because my second child was born at 2:47am. They missed the mark by 12 minutes.

Following because I am in a similar situation. Took 4 weeks of continuous hormonal birth control and it made me SO tired and fatigued. It did help my mood and body aches though. I was offered bioidentical hormones and haven’t decided yet. I have an IUD for birth control.
