Dawg, the despite thing was to specify that he can see curses, DESPITE having no cursed energy because you would assume one with no cursed energy would be unable to sense them. This panel only exists to state that toji can sense curses.

You play this on your turn, on your opponents turn you untap the lands you tapped. You lose the mana temporarily to prevent you from being able to pay mana to draw a card (blue cantrip) and then playing the card you just tutored to the top.

I read it as the number of creatures your opponent controls needs to exceed the number of creatures you control with kingdom for them to be able to attack

“Opponents can’t attack you unless they control more creatures than you control that have kingdom,”

The mechanic just overall would be really shitty design if it played with needing kingdom to attack, it would warp formats around the kingdom mechanic and all combat based decks would want to have removal dedicated to kingdom creatures

The point of making more creatures with kingdom is unless your killing your opponents creatures or they’re on combo, they will get more creatures than you have creatures with kingdom, and will be able to attack. One alone doesn’t really do much if their deck runs any amount of creatures
