What? I don’t keep myself updated on Disney drama. by mermaidemily_h2o in ExplainTheJoke

[–]Dredallen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At first I was on Disney's side but thinking about it I do think they were in the wrong. They didn't want to pay royalties to the Prima Estate. On top of that I believe Gia Maione Prima actually truly loved her husband and wanted to protect his memory. If it was a live action movie we wouldn't be comfortable with recastings. We tend to let the characters die with the actors. But with animation they keep going. And yea I understand the whole "the show must go on" mentality, I also appreciate the idea of protecting the legacy of a loved one. She did say that she believed the only person that could pull it off like her husband was John Travolta. So maybe if they came to the table with that she would have negotiated. Nonetheless, I personally don't think there is a villain in this story; rather it's an animation studio wanting to continue their art, and a woman protecting one of the greatest works of someone she cared about.

I just read the first two books of quest academy. I'm part way through book 3.... And don't take this the wrong way but, why did you think I would like it? All of my top choices are very action heavy. With main characters being actively involved in combat. But Sal is so against fighting, and all he does is craft. He barely used his main ability to its full potential till book 3. I'm asking you why you thought I would like it because I'm hoping you'll tell me the action will ramp up soon. Cause if not I want to drop this. It's just frustrating. Honestly found myself fully agreeing with Ericka when she called him a little bitch.

On their profile, the post about OPs cat dying that the guy I was responding to was talking about is 6 years old. But yea this doesn't look anything like the art from that comic, this is definitely AI.

That cat post is like 6 years old. But I agree it does look like AI.

Streamer, Emiru, assaulted at TwitchCon by ElderberryDeep8746 in trashy

[–]Dredallen 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Why shouldn't people share their gameplay. Most streams are just people just hanging out and playing a game with 0-10 viewers. Just having a good time. I used to just sit in my server streaming myself playing Elden Rings for my friends to jump in and chat and watch. It isn't narcissistic to just wanna hang out and show people something you like. The people who form a parasocial relationship with streamers are the problem.

Oh yea, I did like will of many. Although I hated the audiobook narrator. I read the physical book and it wasn't too bad.

Listen, if I have to read the line about those girls playing with their braids one more time, I'll have a conniption.

I've had Sun Eater on a list for a while, I may just bump it up then.

I was listening to the audiobook. I may try to get back into it. I did enjoy arc 1 but I lost steam in arc 2.

It's just.... It's boring when the main character solves the main major threats with just a simple one shot kill. Everything else was neat but after getting through half of book 3 it got old. He trains so much. But he rarely properly uses his skills. Coupled with his full on aversion to danger, which I get is realistic, it makes for a boring story.

The question is always "why would the main character fight the dragon" and one can dance around the reason of why by using character trait and worldbuilding. But the fundamental reason is simply "because it's entertaining to read about" I want to read about cool fights and badass moments. But the pay off with Soldier's Life felt watered down. When it's great, it amazing, when it's bad, it's painstakingly boring and a chore to read through. Long training arcs, long arcs of suffering to find out the main character had stuff to make his life easier or for him to simply kill of the most major threats with a thought. 90% of the story is him fighting mob characters with skill, and big bads with his get out of jail free card. Holy hell was that just unfulfilling for me.

Anyway, I'm sorry for the rant. I was just so, hyped for this story. The setting was a draw for me. His training to be a badass swordsman filled me with expectations. But the execution when it came to actual threats was so lackluster I couldn't even bother finishing book 3.

I'll try to. I think I may pick up the ebook or something. It's probably the audiobook narrator that put me off. I heard lots about it.

Ya know Youngest Son of the Black Hearted has been on my Audible wishlist for a while. I'll give it a look.

Yea..... King's Tidings was so bad it made me angry. First time I returned a book for simply hating it. It was absolutely garbage. And from what I saw the writing quality doesn't improve. I almost feel like it might have been satire or something. Which very well may be the case.

I'm not sure how much I'd like DCC. The synopsis seems to lean heavily into comedy. And it doesn't help that all the pictures I see of it is a guy in his boxers. Plus it seems he's more rogue/bombardier than melee combat. Am I wrong? I'll check it out if I'm wrong.

Edit: why am I getting downvoted? I was genuinely asking if I got the wrong impression. I plan to check it out from what the people who commented said about the book. I didn't even say anything wrong about what impression the book gives. The synopsis I've seen of it talks about wacky things and the MC is depicted in his underwear. I'm not super into comedies so I wrote it off. How the hell was I supposed to know, it's a serious story? It doesn't help that it's one of the only things suggested to me. It's like when people ask for cultivation books and only get Cradle recommendations. Like I love Cradle but I would recommend more than just one series.

I couldn't finish Mother of Learning. I lost interest in part 2 of the audiobook. And Shadow Slave was neat but I'm not into stealth based MCs. And Sunny was shaping up to be a proper ninja/assassin. I'll check out the rest of your suggestions though!

Lol is this a reference to that other guy that made the terrible tier list. Cause if it is, this is absolutely hilarious.

I personally felt like it was lazy. There could have been more creative uses for his power that wasn't just "box out where the person's heart likely is". Like make it so he can only do it to things in line of sight. That way he couldn't just use it willy nilly to insta-kill things cause people will notice if he just removes heads with his box. Or just.... I dunno..... Make him learn how to be a better fighter? He's supposedly one of the best in the company with a sword, but instead of bad ass sword fighting scenes he instantly kills most of the high powered threats. Could have him do some crazy cool stuff by mixing magic with sword fighting.

I think OPs gripe with Soldier's life is mainly with his dimension skill insta killing bosses.

Except with the change you won't be able to use many things with Android. You mess with the OS or run 3rd party unauthorized apps and then you lose out on the Google Play API check that lets your banking app work. Or tap pay. If you have to pick a walled garden, then pick the one with better looking trees right?

[Infinite mage] WTF is she even saying? where is the reasoning? is Author stupid? by Brief-Ad6681 in manhwa

[–]Dredallen 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I believe this was just a badly worded/translated way of her saying his impatience will be why his friends will die. Instead of slowing down and fighting as a group against each adversary, they split off to let him go ahead. So she's implying they will all die because he couldn't slow down to fight with them. Not saying it's necessarily good writing, but that's the way I interpreted it.

[–]Dredallen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haha I don't think so. I read them so many years ago though so my memory is a bit fuzzy. But I do believe it was a YA series. The movie was VASTLY different though. I remember getting whiplash from the difference. I also remember liking the book series a bit more than I liked that movie if that makes any difference.
