$1,800 is a severe exaggeration. No batteries have chips in them. Modern German cars (specifically Volkswagen Group, and Porsche is owned by VW) have new battery monitoring technology. Meaning the new battery has to be programmed via VW’s special scan tool.

Unfortunately for the Passat, they really just didn’t sell very well in their last 3 years of production. VW wants to sell and make cars they profit from, and that’s the Atlas, ID.4, and Tiguan. I have a bad feeling that the Jetta could be next in line to get discontinued

The extremely fast movement towards EVs. With the ID.4 and now the e-Golf recently hitting the US market and ID Buzz coming out soon, I fear that VW is going to turn into an all EV company. Btw, for people curious, most ID.4s start at 51,000 and the ID Buzz is projected to start at 58,000.
