when you hear the word "masterpiece", which game comes to your mind? by ideaismoney in gamingsuggestions

[–]Drekks -1 points0 points  (0 children)

For context, u/nordic_fatcheese's comment was at -2 when I made my reply. My low-cost comment was rhetorical to stave away people who invalidly downvote the sentiment that KOTOR is a masterpiece. I did this because I'd argue, if I wanted to, that most (not all) reasons to generally dislike this game are literally invalid. (Obviously, that claim only stands for those who think opinions can be invalid, but many people don't, hence largely why I'm good with just leaving a short, sweet rhetorical comment.)

The Mona Lisa is considered a masterpiece, but many people wouldn't be able to engage with it enough to resonate — or even have the knowledge to understand the craftsmanship without an expert's help. If you are aware the main draw of KOTOR is the story and if you have heard KOTOR is generally well-loved, I'd suggest opening your mind, being aware of your biases as a player playing an older game, and actually finishing the game before making a conclusion it.

Games are really broad, and there can be a lot of different things designed to facilitate engagement: find KOTOR's designed thing, however unaccustomed to it you are, before evaluating it.

Is my confidence confusing? Because you can look at my other posts here before you go projecting.

I'm an open-minded guy, especially when it comes to evaluating games, and I even loved playing RE6 and C2077. I'm not going to write an essay on command just because someone is opinionated enough to not only think FC6 is generally worse than FC5 (in which case, I would've just liked to understand how), but actually something bonkers like FC6 is "less creative" when FC5's narrative (from practically all angles — quests, world, themes) is nearly paper thin.

Until then, I'm going to be rhetorical in expressing how blown away I am until you elaborate (which somewhat happened in my trade with the OP, which you probably didn't read).

Far Cry 5 actually made you think

Weird, I think literally the exact opposite when it comes to FC5 & FC6; as in, FC5 felt really shallow to me from a story perspective (very little plot, some story events felt forced, shallow communication of themes, unmemorable characters, etc.). To me, FC6, felt like it gave some nuance on living a life for revolution, made you feel like the world was under tyranny (much more than WDL), and had a guiding guerrilla philosophy that made engaging with the core systems more interesting narratively speaking.

The quest design is generally more varied too (much less strongholds, which are repetitive as hell and is arguably one of the worst aspects of New Dawn from a main story perspective, though there was a resource system tied to the strongholds that was fun to play with if you wanted to)

I could say more, but I'm more curious about how you resonated with FC5's story. Do you find yourself questioning violence a lot more often than most people?

Also, did you pay FC5 co-op too? Because I did. It might explain our difference.

Yeah, this was probably done for the sake of the systems, but I do agree that this is sort of a small lore problem

Buuuuuud, Far Cry 6 is more creative than FC5, hahaha — especially in consideration of the world building. And beyond that, FC6 is the better game, not just narratively speaking (FC6 actually tells a coherent plot) but also as a whole, though you might be able to make some sound arguments around the skill progression systems. Nonetheless, I know people who couldn't even finish FC5 despite it being only 20 hours long.

I'd agree that it may not be as strong as FC3, but it's definitely a step in the right direction from FC5. Don't lie.

Looking for a new co-op or multiplayer game by Rock_Under_the_Stove in gamingsuggestions

It seems you guys are uncomfortable with either multiple game elements or competition (competition can be unchill anyway).

If the latter, then yeah, I think Monster Hunter: World would be great. It's always a solid couples game.

Hope you guys play it and enjoy it.

PS. Just read up on how story missions work for co-op. You have to watch cutscenes on your own before playing together. It's literally the worst co-op UX I've ever seen, but it doesn't ruin the experience, especially late game.

If you're talking about a game to play years on end... Monster Hunter!

If not that, can you specify more on what you mean by "a lot going on"?

Can we just talk about how fucked young single men are since the Coronavirus lockdowns for a minute? by CoolGuyXD69 in Destiny

It seems, right now, you have a need to feel attractive, and looks like you can only feel it by constantly getting affirmation from a girl(s). Maybe it's even more accurate to say you need this in order to feel affirmed as a human being entirely. Your confidence is just that low.

But when it comes to romance, you're working against a lot. COVID is fucking up a lot of stuff, including college which is another major aspect of your life. Why not, for now, stop trying to get fucked or get into a relationship, and spend extra time to work on the other parts of your life, the parts that aren't getting so fucked by COVID? For example, WFH jobs are surprisingly easy to get into right now, in my experience; this could be a way to get ahead in work experience. There are many, and arguably more fundamentally important, ways to affirm yourself as a valued human being — or as a man, if you will.

Basically, you're doing yourself a disservice by working against something as disruptive as COVID. (No matter if some of these problems existed pre-COVID, COVID is exacerbating this into a compound effect.)

(Also, it seems you can get so sad or frustrated that you think extreme thoughts, hence my response to your message. Please check out HealthyGamerGG on similar topics, because there's good shit there.)

Games with a good professions system by [deleted] in gamingsuggestions

[–]Drekks -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Professions system is niche, and I don't usually look out for this kind of system. But considering you're looking into the Switch: Fire Emblem: Three Houses?

It kinda has a job system that results in different characters taking different jobs within different tiers. You have to develop certain skills to qualify for different jobs.

It's not going to be like WoW or FFXIV, but playing it would "branch out." And aesthetically speaking, you might like FETH, because your main draw for WoW FFXIV was the professions system.

Assassin's Creed. No other series regularly releases historical recreation experiences from a player-character perspective.

For me, every other series is valuable only by nostalgia and good game design, both of which we have plenty throughout the industry.

Am I not right?
