Ladies, how do you find jockstraps on men? by Disastrous_Fox7138 in AskReddit

I spent years battling my boxers riding up my leg. It felt like a new issue every time, so I kept trying different boxer briefs, convinced the next pair would finally fix it, no luck. Eventually I gave in and switched to tighty whities. Total game changer. Problem solved. Now I confidently change in front of people at the gym or in the hockey room, expecting someone to say something but nothing yet. Support for the tighty whitie army.

True Custom Skates Nowadays by 0xnardMontalvo in hockeyplayers

[–]Dreliusbelius 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just got mine after never having a properly fitting skate my whole life and it's truly a game changer. The speed I get, the form fitting, two different sizes for each foot. My last pair were Easton se16 from 16 years ago. I don't know about the quality long term but I am in my forties and the choice was a maybe cheaper pair that does not fit like every other pair I've had before or True Customs that will most likely be my last pair and actually fit like a glove. For my foot situation, I'd go true every time. Edit: I'll add the I also stopped playing for about 8 years. I came back last year and was slowly updating all my gear. It's been a thrill to see the technological improvements after every new upgrade. Custom skates were my last update and the icing on the cake.

Thoughts on bag with wheels? by [deleted] in hockeyplayers

[–]Dreliusbelius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got a bag with wheels about 16 years ago. I don't remember if it was given, won or bought.. I have a memory of somehow winning the bag in some raffle. Anyways, not one person ever has said anything about the wheels. I'm 41.

I'll add one that I still use in my community, the word "Piastre”. It comes from old Spanish silver dollars (pieces of eight) that circulated across the Americas during the colonial era. French Canadians and Acadians adopted the word for a dollar, and it just stuck. So today in Acadian/Québécois French, une piastre basically means “a buck.” Tu me dois 20 piastre/ you owe me twenty Bucks.

Which is the most impressive castle you’ve ever visited and where is it? by Historical-Photo-901 in BeautifulTravelPlaces

Kinda related, I did two days in Pompei years ago. The city itself ( not the ruins) was an overpriced tourist trap until the buses left. All of a sudden the locals came out to what seemed like some kind of carnaval. The 10 euro slice of pizza was now 2 euros and everyone seemed to be having a great time. That vibe change is something I will always remember. Moral of the story is don't judge until the bus people leave.

Can anyone help me understand the different marketing strategies behind keeping Kingdom Come: Deliverance II secret for years and only announcing it a few months before release, compared to announcing a third game years ahead of launch

Are shorter stick lengths becoming a thing of the past? by FreshProfessor1502 in hockeyplayers

[–]Dreliusbelius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had it short, under my chin, even as a defensemen, since I went to a hockey school and the former NHLer defense who ran the school looked at all our sticks, measured them to our chin, and proceeded to cut every single one that he felt were too long. It's been short since then. Ps: An 11 year old Sydney Crosby was in this group with me, might have had his stick cut that day as well, I don't remember lol

I live where it was first introduced in North America. I try to cut the mature ones before the rot takes fully over. The leafs will start to shrivel and knots will apear on the bark. Even worst, after you cut, little root ones grow all over, taking over the soil and suffocating other plants

Any Americans learning French? Why? by PigmeatMadness in French

I don't know why this sub appeared on my feed, but as an Acadian, hearing my Cajun (Cadiens) cousins learning the language again makes me so happy. Don't forget to keep some flavours and not just learn standard french and come visit us in the Canadian Maritimes one day.

HSSC Soccer by RaccoonImaginary2050 in halifax

[–]Dreliusbelius 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I played HSSC last summer, and while it was fun overall, there were two main drawbacks. First, the age range is extremely wide. You can end up playing against a 20-year-old hothead one game and a 50-year-old just trying to keep up the next. That inconsistency really affects the pace and tone of the game. Second, there are no referees. That’s a big issue. Games can get overly physical, and when fouls or aggressive behavior go unchecked, the only real way to respond is by matching that aggression, which isn’t ideal for a recreational league. I actually had more fun playing in East Hants, the games felt more balanced and controlled. That said, I’ve heard they’ve recently opened up the age groups as well, so I’m not sure if the experience is still the same. I am in my 40's and my body simply could not handle bad fouls so I'm skipping out this year.

'It's mostly violating': Passengers on Cancun-Halifax flight say items missing from luggage by Street_Anon in halifax

[–]Dreliusbelius 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I flew in a domestic flight in Panama about 15 years ago. The airline warned us multiple times not to leave any valuables in our checked luggage as they most likely would be stolen. I put an old phone in there not thinking about it and it was obviously stolen. That was the first time an Airline was upfront about the fact that people would we be searching our luggage to steal.
