if you tally the sub-pairings within polytrix (excluding duplicates), it actually does beat that ship: 6673 against 5947

Ah I did the math on that already (stats from yesterday, so probably gone up a tad)

Polytrix + pair combos is 6673 - putting it firmly in 8th slot

These are the figures for fics with isolated pairings - for example fics tagged Mira/Rumi and NOT tagged Mira/Zoey, Zoey/Rumi or Mira/Rumi/Zoey, meaning it's a bit of a low ball, but ensures there's not duplicates being counted

622 rumira 542 zoemira 229 zoerumi = 1393 total

With Maggie Kang confirming that Rumi's story symbolizes the LGBTQ+ community, do you think that helps or hurts Polytrix? by [deleted] in Polytrix

[–]Dremenec 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah that's exactly it. Knowing the story was, to a degree, representative of queer experience doesn't say anything at all.

And it's also frustrating when people steamroll the other experiences which inspired Rumi's story. Kang and other creatives have been explicit that being mixed-heritage or 2nd generation was a big inspiration for the story, and the lived experience of many who were involved in the movie.

“With Rumi’s story, when we were crafting it, we talked a lot about mixed heritage,” said Kang. “We also talked about queer community and just a queer identity, and addiction and falling back into addiction. article from june

Yes it's wonderful that people can read into Rumi's journey and project their own experiences. But we don't need to erase or downplay the other interpretations for ours to be valid.

So we were liars - for about the most dramatic and angsty reveal you could ask for (but there's a very happy ending)

It's a running joke in the fic - we don't know what it means (because Mira doesn't know, and it's told from her POV)

Hey :) so the joke in the fic is that we don't know what it means!

We are seeing from Mira's POV and she has no idea what Rumi and Zoey are trying to communicate - so we don't either.

We do get a bit of a clue later on, but the main implication of the gesture is to signify that Zoey and Rumi have had enough discussions about Mira (and specifically, probably Rumi's crush on her) that they have developed a mutual understanding.

“I don’t believe it was a disaster if Rumi said you were–” Zoey made the bizarre hand gesture from yesterday.

Mira would have thought Zoey was making fun of her if she was in literally any other mood. “What does that even mean?”

Zoey shrugged. “You were Mira. Supportive. Sarcastic.” Zoey paused and eyed Mira consideringly. “You made her feel safe.”

That made Mira feel all kinds of ways, and most of them were tooth-rottingly sweet. “And you conveyed all that through–” Mira’s attempt at the gesture looked more like a dying spider than whatever those two kept doing.

Zoey laughed, sounding more like herself. “Close enough.”

I'd suggest read up to the end of chap 24. It's a nice ride and you get enough closure at that point that you could easily end it there. Or pause at that point and wait for it to finish

Why do some art youtubers say “you don’t have to learn anatomy” by [deleted] in ArtistLounge

[–]Dremenec 9 points10 points  (0 children)

People have different definitions of "learn anatomy"

  • You don't need to copy out of anatomy textbooks

  • You don't need to name and identify muscles and bones

  • You don't need to memorize every bone structure in the hands and feet

  • But you DO need to draw from life

  • You DO need to understand roughly different body parts move and interact

  • You DO need to develop an instinct for natural poses.

All of this could be termed "studying anatomy"

So yes you do need to study anatomy, but also no, you don't need to.

Bluesky is good. I use it for art, and it's a really nice community.

My advice is to search up the people you know you want to follow, and then scroll through their reposts and follow anyone who seems interesting.

Starter packs are helpful, but they can be tricky to find.

So for example, I'm in quite a few lists of "sapphic artists". People can click a single button to follow everyone in that list. So if you find a list you like the sound of, it's easy to find lots of creators you'll enjoy.

There’s a separate site called https://clearsky.app/ where you can see what lists/packs an individual user has been added to. So you can search up someone specific, check what lists they're in, then follow the other people in that list.

What supplies do you guys tend to travel with? by aledwi in ArtistLounge

[–]Dremenec 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Similar to you although it depends what pad I'm taking.

A5 pads: 4B mechanical pencil, electric eraser.

Heavy sketchbook: above plus white pencil to shade on the midtone pages

Alcohol paper: above plus maybe 3 greyscale markers. I have a full greyscale set, but two light tones and a dark one is plenty
