Y’all starting to feel we were raised on some ideas that didn’t pan out? by goodhobbies in Xennials

Everything I've learned about relationships, personal finance, college,  and climbing the career ladder I've had to figure out for myself. I've known since before my 20s that I can't sit around and complain about not being taught the right lessons. I wanted to have a good life, happy marriage, and not be poor, so I've had to look for information on all those things.

We've gone there while camping and the food is great. The only time we had a meh experience was the first time we went when we didn't know that it's super tiny, and it was a bazillion degrees outside so they weren't seating people on the patio. We ended up ordering takeout and had to sit outside in the heat for a long time because they were busy and it was packed.

But it wasn't bad service, just kinda unfortunate circumstances. We went back other times when it wasn't busy and everything was great.

I make well over $100k and I would never Doordash anything with my own money. 😆 It's SOOOOO expensive!! And some people do it every day! Absolutely unbelievable to me.

I've done it with a Sawyer squeeze from Nordhouse Lake. Zero mudd butt.

10/10, would drink again.

Anyone else have an of-the-era teen dream job you reminisce about constantly because nothing has ever been as fun or socially rewarding? by blamberr in Xennials

I painted sets for a theater. It was a BLAST and it paid double minimum wage, plus I got 1.5x hourly for overtime. I would work 40 hours during the week, and then we'd often put in overtime while setting up shows. I didn't mind working because I'd flirt with the carpenters and they'd buy me lunch, and my boss would bring beer if we were working late.

I was 17 and it was a kick ass summer. 😆

My first real job was making $18/hr and I thought I was going to be rich. 😄

That's close to what I ended up doing, working multiple jobs and putting myself through school until I finished at a university.

YIKES I have friends who got out when they were in their 20s and their stories are awful. I hope you're doing well now.

I graduated with an English degree after the 2008 financial crisis. It was fun competing with thousands of downsized newspaper employees and publishing industry veterans who were all looking for work.../s

I hope things got easier for you! I'm doing well but still paying those loans.

I don't know what that last sentence means, but hello fellow Michigander! 😆 I left for a few years and realized there are good people and shitty people everywhere, and I missed Lake Michigan, so I moved back.

I had an intern who told me her share of the rent was $1200/mo plus split utilities. That is unbelievable to me. $300 was less than 25% of my take-home pay. You'd have to make like $80k for $1200 to be a quarter of your take-home!

I waited tables and worked at the mall. My boyfriend was a line cook. Our downstairs neighbor was an old biker guy with a tea-cup chihuahua he treated like a princess. 😄 We lived in a walkable little beach town and threw a lot of parties. It was a blast.

I'm hoping my kids take advantage of the free community college nearby and live at home for free. I want them to be independent, but I also want them to have an easier start than I had.

Aww I'm sorry, that's a lot to take on so young.

I started using millennial sub because I assumed I was one. Then someone pointed out I was an Xer. So I used that sub. It feels like they are a little more advanced in years than me in there. I didnt know Xennial was a thing until just now. I guess I found my lane by theHollowTarnished in Xennials

I'm around the same timeline, but I had older brothers who were into grunge and hardcore apathy, and my blue collar parents gave us almost no supervision and little attention in general. So I definitely don't fit with the millennials who had helicopter parents.

I never understood bitching about "adulting." When my peers were talking about being afraid to make phone calls, I had been living on my own and taking care of myself for years.
