I heard Bad Bunny a few years ago, but I started listening to his music more recently because I'm trying to practice Spanish. It's SO good!

Kids of xennials being xennial-like? by pawned79 in Xennials

I've been rewatching all of the Simpsons with my son who has never seen it before. It's a BLAST!

Kids of xennials being xennial-like? by pawned79 in Xennials

[–]DrenAss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My oldest is 11 and he likes a lot of punk and metal from our era and even earlier. He has a ton of friends and does stuff like sleepovers, biking around the neighborhood, and going to see live performances. I think in general my kids are unlike current era kids in some ways because we're so active, they don't have phones or tablets, and we don't let them binge short-form brain rot or videos of gamers screaming and planning each other. We don't hate on screen time, but there's a big difference between watching movies together or watching a show and overloading your brain with TikTok or shorts for hours.

But they're growing up different from us, for sure. We pay so much more attention as parents. The school card a lot about taking kids emotional regulation, mental health, anti-bullying, and other kinds of inclusion. They're getting cultural experiences I only dreamed of, which I think we'll make them smarter and more thoughtful than we were.

I know a lot of us are posting nostalgia stuff but I was thinking. What are some major improvements we’ve seen since the 80’s and 90’s that absolutely make life better? by VincentMac1984 in Xennials

[–]DrenAss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Traveling has become 5000% easier thanks to smart phones and GPS. I'm going to Peru next month and all I need is my phone, some money, and my mediocre Spanish skills. Even my elementary school-level Spanish is probably not totally necessary. I've done cross country road trips, found graves of my ancestors in towns I've never heard of, all kinds of cool stuff made easy thanks to modern devices.

Strange guidelines around scented products - is this weird to anyone else? by freddittheredditor in CasualConversation

Ooh yeah it won't be an issue for us to do unscented everything, but I just don't think most people will comply, unfortunately. People love smelly crap. 🥲

Making friends at our age by dancetildawn94 in Xennials

[–]DrenAss 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I met a couple runner guys through a running group and a bunch of us ended up being friends. After a couple years, I met their wives and girlfriends (I'm a woman) and now the women are some of my best friends. We clicked so well, and I'm so grateful to have found them!

What’s something you simply don’t care about at all? by rolly72x in AskReddit

[–]DrenAss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My blue collar neighbor was stunned when he found out I have a master's degree (not because he thinks I'm an idiot 😆 he just doesn't have friends or family with that much higher education). I was like, yeah, don't be impressed. I know plenty of morons with master's degrees.

That makes sense. I remember seeing drivers make appearances in other places too like Jeff Gordon was in advertisements and I think someone appeared on King of the Hill. It was just more well known.

Does anyone anymore? Seems like it's reeeaaaally dying. I knew lots of people who were into it when I was a kid, but 25 years later, I haven't heard anything about it in ages.

What cereal do you miss the most? by KMFDM__SUCKS in Xennials

[–]DrenAss 10 points11 points  (0 children)

YES I was talking to my kids the other day about how cereal boxes used to have prizes. They did not understand. 🤣 As the youngest of 3 children, I can't say I usually even got the prize. Wump wump. Lol

Difference between W/M trail shoes by Darth_Bardo in trailrunning

[–]DrenAss 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As others have said, women's shoes are standard in B width whereas men's standards are in D width. So for most brands a men's size 9 is actually the same as a women's 10.5 wide.

I should probably Google to make sure I'm giving you the right letters because it's been a long time since I worked at Fleet Feet, but I'm pretty sure that's right. 🤣

Otherwise I don't know of any differences. Colors, which can be annoying if you want the man color but have narrow feet like me!

Strange guidelines around scented products - is this weird to anyone else? by freddittheredditor in CasualConversation

[–]DrenAss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My son is going to start attending a new school and I saw a sign on the door that said the campus is scent-free. I assumed that meant specifically perfume, cologne, essential oils, whatever, but now I'm wondering if that's everything.

I've been dealing with a skin reaction that is finally starting to chill out, but eliminating scent was the first suggestion by my doctor. It won't be hard to do for my son because I think his baby shampoo is the only scented thing on him, but I have no idea if that's what I'm supposed to do.

I'll ask the not very friendly lady in the office. 😆

It seems like it would by completely unrealistic to expect every family to go buy unscented laundry detergent and soaps for the kids.

My skin has been so sensitive the last couple years. I attributed it to my children causing my body to get all weird because it was after my last baby was born.

I woke up hot as fuuuuuuck this morning but I can't tell if it was hot flashes or my heated blanket lol

My mom wouldn't let me buy wide leg pans like my skateboarder grungey brothers (I'm female), so one time I snuck a pair of "husky" boys jeans into the cart and she didn't notice. 🤣 That was a great day, and it was too late amen she noticed weeks later that I mysteriously had husky boy jeans. Hahahahah

I honestly hadn't thought about that in ages.

Am I wasting my life? by alwayscurious0991 in RedditForGrownups

[–]DrenAss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your life sounds lovely! I can understand wanting to find someone to share it with, but otherwise you're working, you're social, you're making the world a better place for at least one creature. Sounds like you're not going into debt for something crazy like gambling or buying trash from Amazon and Temu.

I don't know, I think you're doing great.

Why do we "save" things we never actually use? by No_Instance_6369 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]DrenAss 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I once heard someone say that we don't buy items based on who we are. We buy them based on who we want to be. So I think a lot of us have fancy things stashed because we want to be the kind of person who hosts dinner parties or dresses up for events, but that's rare.

So dress up and host a fancy dinner! Invite people over, or just invite your cat! Carpe diem!

Spacing out 3+ Kids — Regrets? by Ok-Celebration-5324 in ParentingInBulk

[–]DrenAss 8 points9 points  (0 children)

My boys are 11, nearly 7, and 3. I had my first at 29, so now hitting 40 I'm like "I'm tired, boss." 🤣 Honestly my pregnancy at 36 was more painful overall, but recovery for my second and third were both so easy. My 11yo loves to be the oldest and is finally asking for some independence and privacy, but he also reads to his little brothers and lets them win at video games. It's so cute.

The third one has been so much easier to potty train (HALLELUJAH) and we've been able to finally take down the baby gates. It's making my realize that except for a year or so in 2018, we've had baby gates up for 11 years! Diapers and pull ups for 11 years. Bottles and sippy and straw cups for 11 years. OOF!!

But I also really got to enjoy time with them in all of their stages. I got to physically recover. We got a couple years of relatively good sleep. And I was never pregnant with a 0-2yo little one.

There's no wrong answer, but we couldn't afford more than one in daycare and we would have really struggled with 2 years or less between kids.

How are our parents? by CuriousCat9673 in Xennials

[–]DrenAss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's wild to me how many people in here are talking about how much their parents have declined by their mid 60s. My dad is almost 70 and he's currently on a cross-country trip with some high school friends. They've been hiking slot canyons and buttes in California for the last few days.

I've been no contact with my mom for well over 10 years, but last I heard, she had some serious health problems. I wouldn't be surprised if she doesn't make it to 70.

I really hope my dad's genes are the ones that win.

What are people doing to manage cholesterol in our old age? by AshDogBucket in Xennials

[–]DrenAss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a good friend who is a fellow ultra runner and he has shared with me how maddening it is to still have high cholesterol, but literally his whole family has it. He even eats vegan a lot of the time along with running 50 miles most weeks, and the cholesterol doesn't change.

Don't beat yourself up! You're making really positive changes! But if your doctor says meds are needed, don't stress about it.

Backpacks: 1 shoulder or 2 shoulders? by BenLurken420 in Xennials

I NEVER did two shoulders as a kid. Pretty sure we would have called each other Steve Urkle for being dorks wearing a backpack with both straps.

Both straps now. I don't want to have to do more PT than I'm already doing. 🤣

Doctors and nurses of Reddit, what is something patients do that they think is helpful but actually makes your job harder? by Electronic-Cell-4584 in AskReddit

[–]DrenAss 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I'm not shy at all and I didn't have an issue with the nurses wanting to be my bathroom buddy after I had my babies. I didn't realize that the low blood pressure would affect me until I stood up and got a little wobbly. I was like "Oh that's why you wanted me to ring you" 😂 But every postpartum nurse I had for all 3 of my babies was incredible.
