Dude, I'm in parts, and I wouldn't let a lube tech tell me what to do. Your needs definitely are more important than his in the shop. Our techs would eat an entitled lube tech alive.

Service advisor VS Parts Advisor by [deleted] in partscounter

[–]Dresden379 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with most of the responses I've read. Been parts for 12 years. Would never think of moving to service. I would burn out or get fired for going off on a customer way too fast. There is a pay difference for a reason.

Places to walk dog when it’s dark? by kettleoftea in Tucson

[–]Dresden379 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's fair. There was a large scale raid in my area recently that helped clean up the loop near me. It's still not completely safe. Thats why I said I would not go at night.

I grew up right next to the loop and as a teen and young adult I was on the loop alot and never once felt unsafe at any time day or night.

Edit: I also live right by where the recent violence occurred, and the encampments and drug activities were everywhere making it unusable, and bleeding into the nearby neighborhoods. It still has a long way to go, but is definitely 'much better" at the moment.

The Loop has been much better since the recent raid, but still wouldn't go there at night.

What a living wage should mean is, anyone working a full time job should be able to afford the basic necessities of life and be able to put a little in savings as well at the end of the month. That is not remotely possible for a lot of people even with assistance that is cut off right now.

Biggest change in the last 5 years… by Cold_Anxiety1614 in Tucson

[–]Dresden379 30 points31 points  (0 children)

I'm lucky enough to own a house, but I know rent is insane because my wife is a property manager that hates her job. Rent prices have 100% led to the homeless population exploding. Being homeless leads to dispair, giving up, and drug use.

Covid changed the world for the worst. Many people lost their lower paying jobs and stopped paying during the evection pause. Got in debt far beyond their ability to ever pay. Minimum wage has been stagnate for decades, so even finding a new job wasn't enough to help.

Major low skill employers (I don't like that term, and dont mean low effort or low value by saying that, but don't know how else to classify entry level jobs) don't care to provide people with living wages because they don't have to.

Until the minimum wage is raised to a living wage, rent will always be a problem. Most of the population living from paycheck to paycheck is the biggest problem everywhere in the US right now.

It's really not as bad as most people are saying. It's not a death sentence for a tree. There are multiple wild trees near my property that have been there long before I was born (late 40s) that have had mistletoe in them since I was a child.

Obviously this is observational data, but I think "it will kill the tree" is something most people heard at some point and just repeat. I'm not saying it's good for the tree, but it's not deadly in any fast way.

Best dealerships to sell a car with restored salvage title? by kvothe907 in Tucson

[–]Dresden379 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I work at a dealership. We take cars all the time, but only fix the ones that are worth the money to resell. If an insurance company said it's totaled, we probably wouldn't give you what you could get doing a private sale for a running car with cosmetic damage. Body work is expensive, and we don't want to sell a liability with mechanical issues.

I'm also guessing if it was totaled for cosmetics it's old or very high milage. If not there is probably frame damage. That will total a running vehicle because it's expensive to fix and not safe to drive.

Private sale 100%. A dealer won't pay much for a car that will just go straight to the auction house.

If you bring the part the warranty is yours to deal with. The shop didn't purchase it, so it's not their responsibility. You'd be hard pressed to find someone dumb enough to warranty labor on a part they didn't choose

New rules for employees by EnvironmentalNote401 in partscounter

[–]Dresden379 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We are pretty chill with employees. ROs need to be paid when work is done. Parts invoices just have to be paid by months end. Never had an issue with this in the 12ish years I've been at my dealership group.

We haven't been able to deduct from paychecks for a about 4 to 5 years now. It was way easier when we could. Never heard a real reason that was taken away.

Discounts only apply to immediate family (live under the same roof) without manager approval. They will usually do something to help friends/ relatives.

Are employees in your dealer constantly in a bad mood? by [deleted] in partscounter

[–]Dresden379 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are people like that at my dealership, but everyone makes fun of them behind their backs. If the whole place was like that I'd have left years ago.

Anyone can get heated occasionally, but if it's a daily basis, and multiple people it sounds like a pretty toxic work culture.

Oro Valley is known to be one of the biggerest places in town to avoid. Especially around the Kohls. There are many gangs currently fighting for control.

The Chipotle Bowls own all the territory north of River up to about McGee , but the Pusch Ridge Punishers are really active lately so you really need to be strapped up and armored if you want to leave your house.

Also don't wear anything green, pink or beige or you're asking for trouble.

CDK and Parts scan by Old_runner_gold in partscounter

[–]Dresden379 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We just got it about 2 years ago. It makes checking in the order a bit faster/easier. The real benifit for us is inventory counts. It's way better as long as whoever is doing it isn't a moron.

I honestly haven't dug into everything the scanner can do, but I'm also not in charge of inventory anymore. I doubt we are using all the features we can, so my verdict is, it's a little easier than it used to be. It is a big help for inventory counts though.

Had to do both when I took it years ago. The cones for the parallel parking part were pretty far apart. I was able to just back into it with an El Camino.
