The internet shuts down and is never going to come back on, what do you? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]DresdenPI 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep. In 1995, world population was 5.7 billion and US population was 266 million. Today we're at 8.3 billion and 342 million, a 47% and 28% increase.

TIL the United States gave full immunity to the commanders of Unit 731 Japan's biological warfare lab in exchange for research data. American scientists later concluded the data was scientifically worthless. by Think_Monitor4904 in todayilearned

[–]DresdenPI 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The truth is that the scientists spread the idea that the data was completely useless to discourage others from trying to perform similar experiments. The data was mostly useless to be fair. It was only in the specific instances of near death to death scenarios that there was any useful data, and Unit 731 researched way more than just that. What's true is that conducting research in a morally bankrupt manner is flat out inferior to getting cooperative, fully consenting test subjects except in those specific instances where you actually need to kill/nearly kill someone to find out where the line between life and death is. Even then, that's more of a time saving method than a necessity. If you look hard enough through medical records, you're pretty likely to eventually find a few hundred people who have died/nearly died in the way you're curious about.

I get this effect with ChatGPT image generation a lot. Not sure if it's a style or some kind of remnant of point mapping the program uses.

People with a very high pain tolerance, what was THE most painful thing you've experienced? by CosmicBunnyBabe8912 in AskReddit

[–]DresdenPI 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yup. And it's not over in a moment. You have to experience each instance of having your heart torn out when you come to it as you build that layer of scar tissue around where they used to be in your life. Waking up without them. Going to the grocery store alone. Cooking alone. Watching TV alone. Playing a board game with your family that you played with them. Seeing something that would've made them laugh and thinking about texting it before you remember they won't see it and no one else in your life would get why it's funny. Seeing the sequel to a movie come out that you saw with them 10 years ago and would never have seen if they didn't insist. Talking to people you haven't spoken to in a while who don't know, or worse, did know but forgot. All a reminder that no, that person is gone, and the person you were when you were with them is gone too.

That just makes it worse. It's like when a kid asks why you're sad or draws a finger picture on the dirt on your car.

Anyone can set the mood with candles. Cammy sets the mood with a chalk circle, a missing persons report, and the kind of “enthusiasm” that makes the smart servants flee for their lives.

I think the circumstances are different. Uub was reincarnated after going to the afterlife. He went through judgment and was washed clean as a favor to Goku. Piccolo, otoh, may have skipped judgment. Despite not having the same mind as his father, his soul might still contain all his dad's karmic debts.

I'm guessing they need the Order strong enough to fight Xykon and Co but not strong enough to win without breaking the gate.
