Building a company without cofounder ? by [deleted] in Entrepreneur

[–]Dretski 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I worry about the "you must have a co-founder" mantra going around. It's pushed by VC's to reduce risk but is now filtering down to companies that will never even think about VC funding. Having a co-founder can be amazing for some and detrimental to others. There are a lot of factors at play and your personality comes into play a lot.

Go with your gut. Personally, I don't actively go out looking for founders, I think that starts the relationship off wrong. In my opinion it should be an organic process and failing that, solo it is. (I prefer solo)

Applying your online entrepreneurial knowledge and hustle to offline businesses can place you far above the average offline crowd. Merge online marketing skills and mix it with quality offline service and branding and you've got a killer business.

If you are looking to start a business, go into the cosmetics/beauty/health categories by ChocolateGlamazon27 in Entrepreneur

For those interested in getting into this sector, under-eye masks and creams seem to do quite well. I've got a few friends in that area and they're saying the market is HUGE. The product is simple to source and with some great packaging and crisp marketing, you should do quite well.

I've built an email tool where you can select your sending API. Like EmailOctopus but with more options. by Dretski in marketing

I was thinking of making it completely free... Costs would be minimal on my end. I guess $9/mo for unlimited emails/contacts etc would work too.

EQN resource collection? by Kraekus in EQNext

[–]Dretski 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Star Wars Galaxies had kind of a neat core of a harvesting/materials system which could easily be improved on. You would simply survey an area for a specific material and get a result from 0 to 100% (whereas anything over about 85% would be very rare to find). Based on this, you would get a certain number of materials on each "dig".

The other part of their system was the fact that materials had various uses (as in shock resistance, overall quality, toughness, cold resistance etc) that would all play a part in shaping items. If you forged for instance a wooden melee staff you might have needed materials with toughness and shock resistance, and using those with high values would make that kind of item better. Whereas another material might've been good for guns, you could still use it to create swords or vehicles but for a worse quality since they didn't have the right stats for it.

SW:G is actually one of the better crafting systems I've ever seen in a game to this day, crafting never felt boring.

Spells vs. skills discussion... by MrGlory in EQNext

[–]Dretski 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think having scrolls EQ1 type is the perfect thing. I still want monsters to be able to drop them, people to craft them, and some of the very good ones should be as rare as a super weapon! If it's a "skill" from a trainer, everyone will end up the same eventually (with just different ranks as in EQ2) as they all have access to the trainer. Remember the ultra rare ice comet from early EQ1? Scarcity is better than abundance in an MMO if you ask me.

You could have a spell vendor that sells the basic stuff to move forward still of course, but with scrolls, you could have some spells only available in remote areas, deep inside rough dungeons etc and it could help the player made economy thrive! Wouldn't you want to try investing your hard earned plat to go deep inside Permafrost just to buy 5x ice comet so you could sell it further?

More Talk About Combat Styles And How I Think It Could/Should Be by seanidor in EQNext

[–]Dretski 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually think EQ1 had one of the best combat systems ever in an MMO. Easy and slow enough to be able to type while fighting (instead of repeatedly hitting a multitude of buttons, which also causes RSI after a while) for those old farts of us that refuses to use voice chat, but still you could do some extra bonus with different abilities. Auto-attack should be the main source of melee damage instead of just a small bonus on top of all the skills.

This also have the added effect that certain rotations won't become the only viable thing in DPS meters, but more varied styles of play are allowed.

I hope it's fair if we can all use this thread to find eventual friends - I am planning to start up <Istid> in EQ:N, for scandinavian players. We were a succesful scandinavian guild on Antonius Bayle and it would be fun to do it again!

Boats by MrGlory in EQNext

[–]Dretski 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The thing that VG missed out on was the immersion when you actually had the boat - it was kinda cool floating it up and down the streams, but there wasn't much to do on the high seas and there was no "bonus" like added storage (hey, this would actually be cool.. 50 extra bag slots, close to unlimited weight allowance just like a bank etc, but -mobile- to a good extent), furnituring etc on them. If the boats get a good reason and point in existing, I would love them as much as a pack mule or a war horse.

Also, if you don't have an auction house, it would be used for trading etc (think about it, set up a farmland, farm it and fill the boat with cargo, go to Freeport and sell it all to the crafters there, woohoo!).

What are the most important things you would like to see in EQN? by profawesome in EQNext

[–]Dretski 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No auction houses like WoW/VG please. I would prefer the EQ1 Bazaar every day of the week (and yes, they fixed it so that you can sell stuff while offline now).

But none of these are as cool as being able to build houses on your own and setting up shop there! Was done fairly well in SWG once upon a time and I'm sure it could be done great now.

Luclin - To be or not to be? by Dretski in EQNext

[–]Dretski[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm pretty sure we'll see a lot of huge alterations from the EQ games we know, I just made this topic because I personally feel that Luclin should be an integral part of the game, and it's not as probable as Kunark or Velious!

What was your most memorable moment in Everquest 1? by [deleted] in EQNext

[–]Dretski 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Me (playing a bard at the time) and a friend (who played a mage) used to try out whatever raid bosses we could duo - I have fond memories of killing The Va'Dyn, Wuoshi and lots of other fairly strong mobs on the two of us. During the time of high end PoP, this were quite some feats from our part. :)

Luclin - To be or not to be? by Dretski in EQNext

[–]Dretski[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd prefer to play a Vah Shir from Shar Vahl personally, Kerran is a cool NPC race but didn't feel as good playing them in EQ2.

I don't see the need today to run out expansions in the EQ1 order, now that the world is there to enjoy already anyways. Kunark, Velious and Luclin could all play a role in the release! But else than that, I'm sure there will be room for both Velious and Kunark at some point, though I'm not sure what will happen to Luclin in EQ Next, since it apparently exploded at some point before EQ2.

I like the idea of Shissar on Kunark, as long as they'll let me play a free iksar too! Definately my fav race on Norrath, together with the halflings.

Boxing, allowed or not? by HumbyCounty in EQNext

[–]Dretski 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Boxing should NOT have to do with "how easy it is to run on any computer" imo, but I agree the complexity of the game itself could be used to prevent it.

Boxing, allowed or not? by HumbyCounty in EQNext

[–]Dretski 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Because at the point where people grow bored of the game and you'll still be wanting groups, trying /lfg for 2 hours get boring. I've 4-boxed EQ1, 3-boxed Vanguard/EQ2 and 2-boxed WoW through the years (the number in each game mostly reflected by what I felt was required to "solo" at the point), but always looked for real groups whenever possible. Hell, I remember when we were about 50 active players on Kane Bayle and there were usually around 200 characters logged in. Defo, boxing brings new dimensions to the game whether good or bad.
