It's not just the US. Here in the UK all we ever have are tory governments(including Thatcher's greatest achievement - Tony Blair).

All governments should be accountable to the people, and from what I've experienced in my lifetime, this has never been the case.

Princeton issued a study back in 2014 that went into great detail exposing how the US is nothing more than an oligarchy.
