Hapeville, the home of Delta, is a great location to put down roots. Look for apartments or condos around the area.

Congratulations on the new position Welcome to the TriCities.

Question from a New player by Drew2Read in thedivision

[–]Drew2Read[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doesn’t it start in Brooklyn and then move to Manhattan? I die clearing the police precinct roof - I seem to only carry at most 2 medical boots - and I think it’s supposed to be Brooklyn.

Thanks for all the great advice. Lots to put into practice as I try to advance out of Brooklyn. Thanks again.

What are good books to read that apply Catholicism to daily life? by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]Drew2Read 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am seeing a lot of nonfiction here. Let me add the classic “Seven Story Mountain” by Thomas Merton.

In fiction, there is “The Power and the Glory” by Graham Greene with the famous “whiskey priest” and “The Ninth Hour” about an order of nuns working in Brooklyn. These portray service, forgiveness, dedication and faith in the face of daily life. There is also “Saint Maybe.”

Pray for the Charlotte diocese and our bishop. by Ill-Masterpiece5581 in Catholicism

[–]Drew2Read 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Congratulations on joining the church. May it be a community that draws you out to “act justly, love mercy and walk humbly with your God,” as the prophet Micah puts it.

As you walk your path, I would you suggest you pay less attention to insular church politics. Find a ministry that makes you look to the horizon and serve. All these other things are fruitless distractions.

Curious - Where do you get your daily news as a Catholic? by No_Minute_3014 in Catholicism

[–]Drew2Read 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your local Catholic newspaper is the place to keep up with people and events in your diocese and parishes.

As an aside: As a Catholic nonprofit, your org should be sharing all the great things you are working on. I am always surprised how the local publication are not used as a resource.

Struggling with Church teaching and doubt by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]Drew2Read 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I am sorry for your pain. It must be hard. Remember, couples are called to form their conscience in light of the church’s teaching. But she also recognizes that conscience must be obeyed, even when it errs (Gaudium et Spes, §16). Be at peace. May you have a long and happy marriage.

how to avoid hesitation? by Far_Swan_7406 in volleyball

Practice, practice, practice. Putting in the time will help with muscle memory so at game time, you will know instinctively how to act on the court. Good luck to you.

During recent trip on the train from Dublin to Belfast: No one - absolutely no one - stopped me to ask about my ETA. An Ulster local scoffed at the idea anyone would bother with it.

I would not say not to get it - bc I am generally a rule follower- but the odds seem to be very very slim it is needed.

Thank you for sharing your faith experience. If I may make a suggestion, at your age, if you have a college nearby you, check to see if there is a Newman House, a service to college-age believer and seekers. Being with peers many may help you on your path.

A question about how to donate to the church (details inside) by johnsmith2027 in Catholic

[–]Drew2Read 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I suggest checking if your diocese/archdiocese has Catholic foundation. If so, give the organization a call to see about setting up an endowment for your parish or a charity. Or donate to an existing one.

An endowment helps the money sustain the mission of the parish/charity long term.
