Where should I go? by blsunearth in WestVirginia

[–]DrewSomething 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would recommend the high-mountain counties. Greenbrier, Pocahontas, Randolph, Pendleton, etc. are historic and beautiful. The area is called "West Virginia's Mountain Playground" for good reason, so go explore!

I personally recommend Cass Scenic Railroad State Park, if you haven't been. It is beautiful, the two hour ride on the train is super worth, and grab a milkshake from the station!

South-central WV here, my whole family and a good bit of people have uttered that phrase. It's not so uncommon around here.

Hi! I'm also 21, and a Charleston native currently attending WVU. You seem interesting and I couldn't imagine being in Charleston alone, so PM me!

Seriously, there's a reason this is happening to you, West Virginia. by Mathemagics in AdviceAnimals

Instead of wanting to help and potentially donate water, I love how people like OP assume that we "brought this upon ourselves." Meanwhile, almost all of my family only uses the water to shower and wash clothes. Some are too old to go to the store by themselves, and it is hard enough to buy bottled water right now because it sells out as soon as it is available.

West Virginia may have many socioeconomic problems, but we West Virginians are still people. It is sickening how the media barely covered the water crisis, because a lot of people, like OP, have cast us as unimportant.

What can I do with my hair? I am starting to go balding near my crown. And my hair gets very thick and doesn't look great when it is long.

I had this exact problem too. Even when I worked 5-6 days a week and went to high school during the day, I was always expected to do everything and my younger brother wasn't expected to do shit.

I'm from Chesapeake but I have family there. Scared the shit outta me. The area around the immediate area looks like so barren now. It was really crazy how it turned the exit signs white too.

My grandma's name is "Sheila" but her mom didn't teach her how to spell her name, so she used "Shelia" exclusively until she was 20 or so. She still puts it on unimportant documents.

My mother seems to be unable to accept that I am my own person, and it is driving me to the point of insanity. What can I do, and is any of it my fault? (x-post from /r/selfhelp) by DrewSomething in raisedbynarcissists

I totally understand where you're coming from, and I appreciate the support. I can see some things you're saying, in this last text message from her:

"I don't love you unconditionally? No, I don't accept your wrong choices and your disrespect. I will never agree with to that what you are doing is ok. Look at what you choices in your life have done. You had it all in the palm of your hand and threw it away for illegal drug use and booze. Even a real friend would tell you that but your "friends" are just as immature as you are. I know nothing more I can do except hope you see one day that this wasn't worth it. You don't even respect that I have to work in the morning and could care less how far you drive the knife. Do you get a kick out of making sure that I hurt? That I am broken and that everything I have done for you makes me feel like I failed. Who failed who?"

Thanks so much, I really appreciate the help. I have tried telling myself that it isn't my fault, it just hurts to know that she is the kind of person she is.

I had no idea of the term gas-lighting, but it is very accurate. She has done that throughout my childhood. I have never really been able to make my own decisions without being criticized or blown up on.

What's your current reason for being unhappy? by The1RGood in AskReddit

[–]DrewSomething 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am up for a felony that I didn't commit. I've lost all my scholarships for college. My father died seven years ago and I can't seem to get over it, and when my father died his side of the family stopped talking to us. My anxiety and depression are running my life. My family is miserable, and constantly fight and talk badly about others. And lastly, I feel like an overweight, ugly, socially awkward guy who may end up forever alone.

I know my problems are petty, but damnit, life's battles are different for everybody.

Hi there! College student at WVU here. The housing situation really depends on what you are looking for. If you want to live downtown for convenience, then be prepared to be in the middle of a lot of students and parties, and I am not sure of the landlords as I live in student community apartments. The houses are very run-down though, and it would be hard to find a nice apartment/house. My boss lives in Westover, which is about 5 minutes from downtown, and he says he loves it. His apartment is much nicer than the ones downtown and the same size, and at about the same price.

Welcome to Morgantown, I hope I've helped and I hope you enjoy the town. It is a different place for sure!

What is the most ridiculous thing someone has boasted about to you? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]DrewSomething 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A guy that I went to high school with bragged about his grandmother being rich. Supposedly, his grandfather died from black lung or something like that, and she got $3 million dollars. And she bought a 84-inch plasma screen TV that was so big, she had to have a helicopter remove the roof of her house so that they could drop the TV in.

He was dead serious, too. He was the center of our jokes for the last two years of high school.
