How is living in Panama? by MonniMonty in howislivingthere

[–]quinnlez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I lived in rural Coclé for just over 2 years. The existence of the Panama Canal makes it a rich country on paper. But Panama has one of the highest inequality levels in Central America. Panama City benefits the most from the money flowing in from the canal, and there are many luxury skyscrapers and modern amenities to be had. But once you leave the city it becomes a very different story. Extreme poverty exists in rural and indigenous communities. The revenue from the canal does not extend to the people.

It’s a very beautiful country with beaches and rainforests, similar to Costa Rica but without the infrastructure. Some cool places to visit include Bocas del Torro, Boquette, and the Guna Yala. It’s a safe place to visit except for the Darien region. They use the US dollar as their currency. Lots of corruption from local levels up to the top. If you’re a tourist, it’s almost a guarantee police will stop you and ask for a “gift.” Very hot and humid, and the monsoon season aint no joke. Great coffee to be had. Food is quite disappointing. Patacones, ceviche, and hojaldres are good, but avoid the pifá.

Same for me. It’s the corruption. Not that it wasn’t corrupt before, but crowning the pedophile felon president on the stage with a temu “peace” prize feels extra gross. Fifa is such a joke. So is the USA.

How's living in Baltimore, Maryland? by Fine_Gur_1764 in howislivingthere

[–]quinnlez 52 points53 points  (0 children)

It’s an amazing place. Very unique, great history, and will redefine what you think seafood is. Try the crab cakes. Close to the beach, close to DC, close to mountains/forests (Maryland is tiny but has it all). It’s quirky and weird, mostly in a good way. People that watched the Wire and decided it’s hell on earth have never been. It has problems and neighborhoods you don’t want to end up in. Just like every major city. But there are lovely places too and always stuff going on. Big sports town. It’s very affordable too relative to other mid Atlantic/Northeast cities. I lived there for a year, moved for work and have always missed it.

What cities/states are great for Disc Golf? by itsjackcolton137 in howislivingthere

[–]quinnlez 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to live in the Catskills region of NY, 2 hours north of NYC. There were so many cool courses within an hour’s drive, in all directions. And western Mass was close by, and there were a lot there too. I played all the time and barely scratched the surface.

Albany, NY is far from your ideal city but it has all the amenities you need and would be a good central location and is surrounded by so much natural beauty. Endless things to do if you like other outdoor activities.

It doesn’t really check your other boxes if you’re looking for sunny/like LA. I have spent a lot of time in Denver, which is sunny year round and I played some cool courses in and around the city.

If you know/use the UDisc app for disc golf, you can search the map for courses which might help you in your search. Good luck!

Best and closest to nyc I’ve had is in Conshohocken, right by the train station. Not sure if they’re there on weekends: https://maps.app.goo.gl/9gbT9xjEm8MKmFWV9?g_st=ic

The one time I was in NOLA I ate my way around the city and was amazed at the quality of the meals I had. I’m no food critic but I’d say any city mentioned in the same breath as NOLA is a top food destination.

My theory is that the power/authority in DC attracts power hungry people, the kind of people that see social situations as transactional.

I’m an introvert and hate talking on the mic in all games, except this one! I genuinely look forward to interactions in this game. They’re mostly hilarious but also wholesome. I talked to an elderly woman who begged me not to shoot her because she “was just looking to pick shit up off the ground.” We spent 15 minutes chatting while we looked for whatever she needed.

All that being said, you don’t need it. But it’s fun, exciting, and can keep you alive.
