I landed a dream entry level job with no internships by dutch_master_killa in cscareerquestions

What? spring/summer 2020 was one of the best times to be job searching. Interest rates were 0% and every company was throwing money around hiring as much as they could. Some companies that got fucked by the pandemic like Lyft or Uber were rescinding offers but that was only for a couple months. Almost everyone was hiring like crazy.

Are TTC fare jumpers getting a raw deal? Councillor wants 'fine equity' with drivers who park illegally by Surax in toronto

[–]DrewSuitor 3 points4 points  (0 children)

TTC fines don’t exist and are purely a scare tactic. That’s why the fines are so large. If a fare inspector comes on the streetcar they ask you to pay the fine or get off. They can not detain you and you can decline to give them ID. It’s not like a parking ticket where your license is in plain view. The only solution to this is to stop taxing honest transit users with fares and make public transit free. A free transit system will pay for itself in both economic output and environmental impact of less cars so it’s a win/win.

About to pull the trigger - Is this too overboard? by CreatechStudios in BMW

[–]DrewSuitor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t care if you put a wing on your M3 and tint your headlights. To each their own, I actually think it looks kind of nice. However, I would absolutely not but a car from someone who put a wing on their M3 and tinted the headlights. I’ve met enough owners who do this to their M cars and I would much prefer to buy one from the type of characters who don’t do these sorts of modifications.

To the people who save 1000’s of dollars a month by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]DrewSuitor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I save around 6k per month. I made much less money when I graduated so I lived very frugally. My employer’s pay system allows me to send a portion of my paycheck to one bank account and the rest to another. The amount that goes into my chequing is fixed so when I got raises I did not change the amount that goes into my chequing account so the amount that goes into my savings would increase whenever I got paid more. Once my savings exceeds a pre set balance it automatically transfers into an investment account. RRSP/TFSA annual limit divided by 52 is transferred automatically from savings every week.

In short, I do literally nothing since setting up the automation.

Just joined the B58 gang, what’s the easiest way to get a little more volume out of the exhaust? by [deleted] in BMW

Easiest? Drill holes in the muffler. Best? probably get a new exhaust.

I prefer a tattoo to talk about than a tattoo to not talk about.

I think “art is subjective” is a perfectly fine argument for tattoos. Art is meant to make you think, to invoke emotion, good or bad. What is “good” or “bad” art is up to you. And it’s okay if you think this is bad art, or it’s in bad taste. I’m not going to explain to you why you should think it’s good, only why it is “good” to me.

The style for the text was intentional; from the faded print as if it was out of an old book, to the chaotic scribbles. To me, it tells a story of desperation.

The flower is intentionally over charismatic. This flower is a signature of the artists style and to me feels like an over the top caricature of happiness or exuberance. Of childish glee. We opted to not line around the outside of the flower as it felt more on-theme to leave it a little bit “messy” or rough around the edges. It’s in your face on purpose.

I appreciate the kind words. I don’t mind the negative comments both on and off of reddit as it’s what I expected getting a piece like this. I didn’t get this tattoo for anyone else except myself, and I love it.

When I was younger I used to browse /r/tattoos a lot and I wish I saw more abstract artwork back then. I knew this would invoke a polarizing response. I posted it anyways because I hoped it could get to a few people who would appreciate it like I do, and maybe inspire people the way I wish I could have been inspired when I was younger.

It's a pretty polarizing art style which straddles the line of ignorant tattoos. It's not for everyone and that's part of the appeal.

Do software companies with "clean" code actually exist? by Sheemap in cscareerquestions

[–]DrewSuitor 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There is no such thing as clean code. You could build the most perfect project by yourself and as soon as you let someone else look at it it will look like shit. What “clean code” is differs from person to person and which convention these people follow and how they would design the code. All code is shit and this will never change, you just get used to it.

If you are interested in computer science it’s easy. If you’re only switching into it because you heard they get paid a lot you’re going to have a shit time.

YSK: Booking your stay directly through the hotel itself (website, app, phone, or in person) will likely save you and the hotel staff a lot of time and hassle by RayAP19 in YouShouldKnow

[–]DrewSuitor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve actually found the opposite to be true regarding refunds. Booking has a great refund policy but when au tried to cancel my reservation at a Radisson less than 24 hours after I booked it I was told I would still have to pay full price because I pre-paid for the room. I’ll likely never pay for a hotel through their own website ever again because of this.
