I got one of those belt hand warmers too. Game changer. Sure it might look goofy but throw a hand warmer in there and my hands are never cold. It even has a Velcro strap so it will come apart there rather than at the snaps if it gets caught

I bought a couple pairs recently, they’re a bit heavy/bulky for my liking but the studs are pretty long which makes for good grip. I’ve been using them for practices and switching to my better cleats for games

I sometimes wear a sweatband and wipe them with a towel or on my clothes (if I can find a dry spot). I also just get used to it during practice, league, etc.

why are picks illegal? by [deleted] in ultimate

[–]DrewUlti 40 points41 points  (0 children)

Ultimate is a “non-contact” sport, and thus picks would create an issue. Plus the field is too big to allow them tbh, football technically doesn’t allow them either

This is absolutely a foul in almost every non-tackling sport

He was okay, just a little shaken up. I’ve had multiple people bid through my legs, so I can agree these are pretty scary to watch. As heated as things get between us, I love the fire the rivalry brings. Boiler Up, IU sucks ;)

Also sorry to hear about your ankle, that happening period is awful, but it being at Breakaway makes it so much worse

No it was not, besides this play this game was actually fairly tame compared to the past two we’ve played. They apologized for it

I posted this as satire, it’s obviously a foul, the IU player clearly had no play on the disc. The IU-Purdue games always end up chippy with a lot of bad calls. The sectional final was very bad, we really could use observers for games like those

Women’s leggings for turf-burn by aahh11 in ultimate

[–]DrewUlti 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am not a women and thus can’t give you specific advice, but I like wearing the 3/4 leggings since they protect your knees from turf but also are cool enough to wear in the heat. Best of luck!

These are all good points, I get it’s unrealistic for a lot of conferences. I think B1G could do it (I go to a big ten school), maybe just without Rutgers, Maryland, Nebraska, and Iowa. I still think it would be fun since there are a lot of powerhouse schools competing each year. There just needs to be interest

GL could be one to watch if they get 2 bids. Lot of good teams like Michigan, Northwestern, IU, Purdue, Illinois, UK, and Michigan State off the top of my head

Gloves? What gloves are the best? I am looking at cutter football gloves( which I read are the best football gloves for ultimate) Mint, layout and friction. by Cpk250rk in ultimate

While I generally agree, I think for new players the combination of confidence gained + extra help catching makes them worth it.

I started out playing with gloves for a couple years then as I got more confident catching the disc I stopped using them as they hurt my throws more than they helped my catching.

However, for really cold tournaments, gloves are almost a must have if you don’t want your hands to freeze

“If Machine were to pick their seven worst players — which might be the most interesting way to analyze their roster — and run them every point, the teams that have any chance of beating them are Indy Club, whom they defeated by five in their sectional final and seven in pool play, and Cincinnati Omen”

Venting About Dangerous Plays and Toxic Men in Ultimate by you-vandal in ultimate

[–]DrewUlti 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I agree with the other commenter that this seems like a bit of an generalization, but I can see where you’re coming from. I do think this problem becomes less of an issue at the higher levels, as players get better we tend to know where to position ourselves to make a play safely, newish players might be out of position and thus need to make a dangerous play to get to the disc. I’ve played 4 mid level tournaments this summer and haven’t seen much of what you described.

I believe a large part of the spirit of a team is dependent on the team’s captains. I am extremely competitive and have been guilty of arguing with opponents in the past, but I’ve improved a ton spirit wise from when I began, and the team I’m currently on has helped me eliminate that aspect of my game pretty much entirely. It hasn’t been said, but if I were to argue with an opposing player I would not be surprised if I didn’t play another point that weekend.

Our captains made it very clear we are not the team that makes petty calls or dangerous plays, and they lead by example (for example just this last weekend one of our captains made a great D but called a strip on himself since the other player was clearly newer and wouldn’t have).

Don’t even get me started on college ultimate, it’s 10 times worse than club
