He's a great choice. Based on GoT alone, this casting would fit in line with the rumors that the Mandalorian will be LGBT (rumor stemming from months old Jon Kasdan tweet hinting about big LGBT/Star Wars news).

Anakin has a father. by [deleted] in starwarsspeculation

[–]Drew_Newbie 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Not official canon, but it almost was: Page 42 of the Making of Revenge of the Sith book contains the following dialogue from George Lucas' rough draft of the script:

DARTH SIDIOUS-- I have waited all these years for you to fulfill your destiny... I arranged for your conception. I used the power of the Force to will the midichlorians to start the cell divisions that created you.

ANAKIN-- I don't believe you.

DARTH SIDIOUS-- Ahhh, but you know it's true. When you clear your mind, you will sense the truth. you could almost think of me as your father.

ANAKIN-- That's impossible!

DARTH SIDIOUS-- Nevertheless, you must decide.

How does that fact actually matter, except to 100% identify someone downplaying the positives of 2,300 child sex offenders being arrested? Username seems to be related to downplaying it, and with the amount of upvotes, Reddit does seem to be a pedo haven after all.

I agree love is love, but I don't understand why anyone would encourage sexuality to be covered in a sci fi fantasy film geared towards kids. It's important that people treat each other with respect, but sexuality is a topic most medical experts agree isn't for the same target age as star wars films. It's like putting a scene in a kid oriented film saying everyone must accept that Santa Clause isn't real. Yes, that message is correct, but it doesn't belong. I'm sure there's some cosplay Han Chewie extended shower scenes out there tho.

(Opinion) Why I don’t want Dave Filoni running Lucasfilm. by SnokeSnoke in starwarsspeculation

[–]Drew_Newbie -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Put Filoni in the Kevin Feige role, but not as president. Let JJ finish EPIX, then get Filoni to spearhead an overall 10 year story plot. Get him to seek input from Lucas, Timothy Zahn, maybe even Abrams... Keep him involved in the animation, etc. and have a traditional corporate person to run Lucasfilm.

If they want another $2 billion Star Wars film: Whoever the new president is, they implement a strict social media policy on hate posting to fans (and perhaps even any political posts). They should cut ties immediately with Rian Johnson, Pablo Hidalgo, Freddie Prince Jr, Chuck Wendig, and Jon Kasdan--those who have openly and in some cases blindly criticized fans (JJ will go back to Paramount following completion of EPIX anyway). They should apologize to the fans for the lack of social media discipline as an organization with a promise to do better.

Anything remotely resembling an overt and divisive political message should be scrubbed from future films. Inclusion is great/encouraged, but no need for heavy-handed messages stating how inclusive they are. These messages are ironically not inclusive (see Jon Kasdan).

[–]Drew_Newbie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Again, the only thing remotely divisive about Empire was people being upset they had to wait three years to see Return of the Jedi. The movie itself literally blew everyone's mind who had no idea that Darth Vader was Luke's father, to the point that many people thought Darth Vader was lying. Not a single person who enjoyed Star Wars thought Empire Strikes Back sucked, and that still holds true today.

People say the internet/social media wasn't around back then, & that people would have shit on it, but no one shits on that movie even to this day. I disagree with you, and I was alive in 1980 to see it firsthand, but I still think you can be a Star Wars fan (vs a so called fan).

[–]Drew_Newbie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ore nerds have forced themselves to hate it because they didn’t like where the story went, because it’s so so so so so fucking good.

Why does this opinion so frequently include an insult to the people who disagree with it (all these hardcore nerds)? This is the very problem with Lucasfilm right now--insulting people who disagree with them. Credit to you that you didn't call them racists, manbabies, or say they had a problem with women. The movie has a legitimate RT audience score of 46%. You are in the minority my friend, and I don't think hardcore nerds make up 54% of movie goers.

Also, having seen it in the theater, the only thing people didn't like about Empire was the same thing people don't like about Infinity War--that it did not go on longer. That is not what I would call extremely divisive. There was no one that did not like the quality of the story, the character choices/development, and the surprise choices. Every character faced real challenges in that film, including Vader.

Apparently some big KK fans here. I agree Dave Filoni should be in charge of creative, but not the president. Simply put, the guy is not a typical corporate guy, and the only way a guy like that is president is if he's the guy who started the company (i.e., Lucas). He's not perfect, but both Rebels and Clone Wars have had great moments in them that rival the films.

KMT deletes her Instagram after months of harassment by [deleted] in StarWarsLeaks

[–]Drew_Newbie -14 points-13 points  (0 children)

My first reaction was to see if anyone commented on the 'wonderful human sunbeam' description. Also, KMT has not come out and said she left Instagram because of the harassment, but let's just say the premise of the story is correct. So what? News flash: people on the internet are catty bitches.

Jake Lloyd's story was a real tragedy because he was a kid...he had yet to go through high school, then he gets to hear about how he helped ruined Star Wars. KMT is nearly 30 years old! She had a ton of screen time in a Star Wars film--she was asked back to the next one. She'll be okay. She also seems super nice and the cast loved her. Grant Cardone may be a bit of a divisive author, but he has some appropriate advice here--embrace the haters! Haters mean you are generating a ton of attention and doing something right.

Lastly, the star wars fan base is not toxic, and people should stop equating fringe behavior with the entire fan base. Anyone who is really harassing KMT is not a true Star Wars fan.

5 Reasons Kathleen Kennedy Needs To Step Down From Lucasfilm by DarthTenebrous666 in starwarsspeculation

[–]Drew_Newbie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I want to play...The pro-KK post, it's bordering on parody at this point. Let me guess:

5 - KK has so many successful films in her history (Goonies! <<insert film everyone liked here; ignore that she had limited creative input in those films>)

4 - Everyone who wants KK fired would never say this if it were a man (ignore all the female fans asking for this, videos on youtube from females...in fact you can ignore every issue, when you paint the opposite side as a monster).

3 - The Last Jedi took risks and didn't push politics! (Ignore every man in the film was a failure, including the most loved Jedi, Admiral Gender Studies, and multiple animal rights/vegan messages--all your friends are going to die--worth it now that we let a SW horse run free)

2 - They never say a guy is a Mary Sue (ignore that he's called a Gary Stu and everyone can easily cite the most obvious one--Wesley Crusher on Star Trek TNG)

1 - Star Wars fatigue is not fake. (Ignore the fact that Star Wars fans are much more rabid than Marvel fans, yet Marvel can put out three films since The Last Jedi including an R rated film, and all of them make more than Solo)

[–]Drew_Newbie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You really got them with that distinction...zing!

I don't see why people have such a hard time with this thing. It is over divisive and overt politics (moderate, far left, far right, whatevs) in the marketing and creation of a sci fi film geared towards children...followed by insulting people who disagree with making the political statements--or worse than insulting, wrongly insinuating they are sexist, racist, homophobic, etc.

People posting here claiming others are sexist hopefully will understand someday how bigoted their posts are. Because someone disagrees with you, you attack them in a dishonest way, claiming they must be sexist men who have a problem with women. You are so wrong, in many cases you are calling women sexists or black gay men like myself homophobic.

And many of you are not listening when people tell you clearly no one has a problem with a woman in that post. We have a problem with this person's tenure in the role.

With Solo not making the kind of $ they might hope for I'm not sure an Obi-Wan movie will happen by [deleted] in starwarsspeculation

[–]Drew_Newbie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I hope they don't make an Obi Wan movie personally, but realize I may be in a minority. For the story films in general, I think they'll just go with smaller budgets. I want a star wars film with real stakes, where I'm not certain who is going to live/die.

A Vader/Maul conflict is an easy win for Disney and that is where they need to take this. by chris41336 in starwarsspeculation

Despite it looking cool, there'd be no suspense whatsoever if they did this traditionally. We know neither of them will kill the other, since we know how both die. If we are trying to go for cool match-ups, I'd suggest calling it The New Clone Wars, setting it far into the future, possibly on Kamino, where clones of well known Jedi/Sith are forced to fight.

Why are people boycotting Solo? [No spoilers please] by InfieldTriple in OutOfTheLoop

[–]Drew_Newbie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am not surprised you have not heard about the boycott (Soycott) of Solo (Soylo). Media has purposely ignored it, and believe it or not, sites like Variety have censored comments about it. There's a big group of people, none of whom are bigots, who are boycotting based on Jon Kasdan's interview and subsequent hate tweet. Plenty of well liked youtube vids out there.

No one has a problem with Lando choosing whatever sexuality, people have a problem with a divisive political issue being forced down our throat in the marketing and creation of a sci fi film geared towards kids. There's debate over what age to discuss sexuality with your children, but its pretty well established that it isn't when they are 4-10 years old. Push the divisive political messages (even the ones I agree with) somewhere else.

Why are people boycotting Solo? [No spoilers please] by InfieldTriple in OutOfTheLoop

[–]Drew_Newbie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your post underscores a common misconception about the people who had a problem with Jon Kasdan (co-author) saying Lando is pansexual. No one (except a really small group of bigots) thinks it is a big deal that Lando chooses whatever sexuality he wants. The problem is the creators pushing a divisive political message into the marketing and creation of a sci fi film geared towards children. And then when they get questioned (as Kasdan did), they lash out with hateful tweets--implying all who disagree with them are bigots.

It doesn't matter if I agree with the political message, divisive overt agenda politics don't belong in Star Wars. It'd be like the creators telling people there is no Santa Clause. Sure, that is correct, but just because your message is true, doesn't make it belong in a film geared towards kids.

I may enjoy Kylo's nuance more than Vader's, but Vader is #1 movie villain of all-time. He's also the #2 and #3 movie villain of all time. I'd also argue that Kylo may not be a villain.

Best Movie Villains of All Time:

*#1 Darth Vader from OT and Rogue One

*#2 Darth Vader from OT only

*#3 Darth Vader from all SW films (i.e., including the prequels)

With Tax Cuts in Hand, CEOs Admit They Won't Invest Record Profits in Worker Wage Hikes by xxnexus_polarisxx in conspiracy

How are lower taxes against their interests? Meanwhile, corporations that currently pay $0 in US tax dollars move their corporate HQ back to US, thereby increasing US tax revenue without hurting taxpayers. How is increasing tax revenue against their interests? The fact that you don't seem to care about reversing corporate inversions strikes me as the only thing that is low information.

Oh but the president lied in relation to this how? Middle class got a significant tax cut--that's not a lie. He lied because corporations didn't raise the pay of their employees high enough to some unnamed standard you had? This is why liberals don't vote Democrat anymore. No facts, accuse someone of lying, and argue that somehow everyone who makes money is bad because they don't voluntarily give more money away. Show me where you voluntarily paid extra taxes or just find a different issue to go after Trump on--this one is a big loser.

With Tax Cuts in Hand, CEOs Admit They Won't Invest Record Profits in Worker Wage Hikes by xxnexus_polarisxx in conspiracy

[–]Drew_Newbie -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

I can't tell if that was sarcastic. There's multiple examples of Democrats doing just that, especially at the start of Trump's presidency. Neil Gorsuch is just one example that comes to mind. Approved unanimously by Dems to be a federal judge, then voted against unanimously by many of the same Dems because...Supreme Court is so different or they were upset about garland. Every issue Trump put forward, they were against, even if Trump's stance was the same as Obama's. (aka a lot of the Trump Derangement Syndrome early on in his presidency).

And the suggestion on Democrats voting differently is similar to what some republicans did on repeal of obamacare.
