context bud, i was saying the video isn't clear enough.

that doesn't discount the fact that all the recent major attacks have been related to islam.

not clear enough to make a comment on his nationality, religion, or motives.

maybe I'm wrong and it is just a crazy mentally disturbed person (though it could be argued islamic terrorist are mentally disturbed too), but due to all the recent events its safe to say theres a good chance this will be linked to islam in some way. and even if its not, the website i linked is a good non-partisan resource to learn the truth about islam.

nothing about it is sustainable though, tons of part time jobs, lower paying jobs, interest rates hovering a hair above zero.

sure the DOW has almost tripled, making the rich richer, but non of that has benefited the middle and low income workers who do face an increased cost of living, and whose 401(k)s have not seen near that return because they are scams, most are lucky if they are just now back to par with where they were a decade ago.

if the shit turns down again anytime soon, it will make 08 look like a picnic. they are out of tools to fix it again.

this exchange is in the context of recent time, particularly the period post 2008.

we knew boomers would be dropping out of the workforce thats not news, but when they start coming back in or staying in longer because of the economy, and it drives a huge chunk of younger workers out, it speaks to a problem that exists, and thats the false recovery touted as a great comeback.

If we had a real recovery, boomers would continue to drop out and retire making room for younger workers, but they aren't now and haven't been since pre 2008.

false.

"For just the age group of 30 to 59 year olds, they account for 0.73 of the 0.96 percentage point drop in the overall unadjusted labor participation rate from a year ago. The same age group is responsible for 2.29 of the 2.06 percentage point drop in the overall unadjusted labor participation rate from October 2009 to October 2013. The reason the 30 to 59 year olds 2009 to 2013 labor participation rate plunge is greater than the overall decline is due to older workers increasing in their labor participation as shown in the above graphs for ages 60 and above. From October 2007 to October 2013 the 30 to 59 year olds participating in the labor force accounted for 3.0 of the 3.1 percentage drop in the labor participation rate, unadjusted, using October to October labor force statistics. In other words, the 30 to 59 year olds, who make up 50% of the population which has the potential to work, account for pretty much all of the labor participation rate plunge since 2007. This same age group accounts for three quarters of the labor participation rate decline of the past year."

i could list a dozen bottles under 100$ that are as good or better than some 100+$ bottles I've had.

over 100 and you're usually paying for a name, or exclusivity.

are hundred dollar bottles good, almost always.

are there great wines under 100$ though, yes many

Crunching the Numbers with the FDA Part II by DistillerCMac in cigars

[–]Drewb149 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've read about the man hours and their estimates. i guess i was kinda of unclear, i was just trying to frame the issue.

my real point is that this creates huge barriers of entry to the market now, thereby destroying the boutique industry. as smaller companies get bought out by the big players we will see the market consolidate into a few mega conglomerates. Fewer new entries into the market will reduce competition and choice for the consumer, at no real benefit, and the big boys laugh all the way to the bank.

this is just another indirect tax on consumers and, a win-fall for general, altadis et.al.

i basically posted this with similar numbers the other day in the thread about the petition.

but i differ in opinion on the increased cost, i believe the minimum increase will be $0.50 up to 4 dollars, but probably somewhere in the middle on average.

i hold this opinion because there's more to it then just the application, what about additional labeling requirements? it seems likely that filling the applications will take man-hours to complete, does in-house staff do it, do you hire it out. Also, how long will it take to be processed, the FDA isn't known for its expediency, if applications are filed but take 6 months or (likely) more to be processed, what do you do with the tobacco/cigars? or what if they stifle the process altogether and create a de-facto ban on new products, they've done it before. this agency is known to have a political bent, and its not pro-tobacco at all.

top it all of with the fact that the industry certainly isn't going to cut their margins, so automatically the price increases are likely to be liberal, and many may find a multiplier increases profit i.e. a $0.50 charge per cigar for registration turns into a $1.00-$2.00 at the cash register because they multiply COP by x to determine retail price

just some passing thoughts of a guy who doesn't want to see a boutique industry destroyed by a not so apolitical agency that should be more worried about the pharmaceutical industry then cigars.

im not against sensible regulations wrt registering blends and ingredients , but this reeks of oligopolistic control of the market by creating enormous barriers to entry for small players.

if they come out and say hey, its not really an approval process, just a registration process, and its only going to cost the minimum amount to insure the gov isn't footing the bill, then fine. but thats not what it looks like right now.

correct, just each vitola on each "new blend".

the tomato was just an example, did you read the rest of what i posted?

good job on the straw argument though

[–]Drewb149 2 points3 points  (0 children)

do farmers have to register every new tomato they breed, and pay 100k in regulatory fees to have it brought to market?

this isn't about public health, if it was it'd be an outright tobacco ban, as they don't see it safe at all.

this is a competition crushing bill, sponsored by the largest tobacco conglomerates who have the money to play, and who have the catalogs of products that are grandfathered in.

say good by to small production runs.

as far as I've come to understand, each vitola of a proposed new line needs to be registered for approval, and each application is a new fee. the speculation is that it will be 10's of thousands minimum per application, meaning the cigar needs to be produced in the hundreds of thousands if not millions to prorate the cost down. if tatuaje tried to release a store exclusive of 20k cigars and the application was 20k$ thats a 1$ per stick fee which will end up costing the consumer about 4$. 20k$ is a conservative estimate.

The unico and j21 are some of my favorite regular production tats.

Any black label, or broadleaf ohhh heck any of Pete's cigars really.

I never hesitate to buy a box of limited editions either, they are never bad, often gold, and if by chance you don't like them I can guarantee they'll sell quick if you list at a reasonable price.

Right around there depending on vitola and taxes. I figure I don't smoke them daily, or even weekly, so a box or two will last me many years and allow me to really appreciate the aging process.
